i definitely hear you man...

i guess i enjoyed the first story arc(s) so much with raph's amnesia and his micro, that i was blinded by nostalgia & joy... [esp. with collecting a complete comic series for once]

not saying that the comic hasn't gotten better i've just yet to reach that high of excitement again...

But I understand these monthlies are "written for the trades", so everything has to fit into neat little 4-issue arcs whether its conducive to the story flow or not. You can't punctuate two 4-issue arcs with a 2-issue "breather", because then the issues won't divide evenly into 4-issue trades. So if you want a "breather", it's got to be a pair of 2-issue arcs back to back and suddenly that's 4 months of "breathers". But whaddayagonnado, right?
Considering City Fall is already a multi-trade arc, what about a 2-issue break followed by a 6-issue major arc at a later stage?

I lost interest for several months during the Neutrino arc. I thought that was downright awful and the art didn't seem appropriate to the story at all in it. I'm back on-board with City Fall though.

Well, we kinda got that already. Issue 21 was a standalone issue which broke up the Krang War and City Fall. We got a few "breather" micros in that the Krang and Baxter issues did not tie into City Fall. Looking ahead, we have the 4 issue Northampton and 3 issue Utrom Empire arcs. Not exactly what your looking for, but we are done with the 7 issue mega arcs, for now. I like both, in moderation. Wouldn't want all one-and-done stories or all mega arcs either. I enjoy the pacing of the series so far.

It's comic books. You only get 12 issues a year of the main story besides the specials. Comic books move slowly when you read them as they come out.

People love to forget Volume 4's bi-monthly schedule, or the wait for Image and Tales when they were new.

What did this post have to do with anything? I'm sure everyone here is aware how comic books work.

because only 22 pages of story every month tends to make people lose interest. We were all 2 years younger back in 2011.

That is how comic books have always worked though. Can't read em at that pace then then I guess you shouldn't bother reading them.

That's why people lose interest in comics in general. I can see why people wait for the trades as they get a more complete story at once.

Not necessarily. It's really only true of books clearly written for trades.

Yep. I always feel a lot more satisfied with one-off issues, even with the same page count.

Granted, I followed the Hellsing manga as it came out at a rate of like 10-15 pages per month, some months, so I'm generally pretty lenient with decompressed, serialized monthly comics. That said, there's a certain sting to having to pay $4 for, and drive to pick up, the experience.

But it's always been like that, though not as decompressed. How will Spider-Man escape this mess? Find out next month. Did Joker really kill Robin? Tune in next month. How will the rescue Dark Leo? Tune in next month. You guys act as if comics are weekly or daily and just now started being monthly. At least the micros keep us entertained in the meantime.

My interest has not waned at all. If anything, it has only grown with every new trade I get my hands on. So far I have loved almost everything about this series, as it combines what I feel are the best elements of everything that has gone before- and introduced SOO much that is new! I was very much surprised by the reincarnation angle at first, but the further into it I got, the more I loved it- it's a fresh new take on their origins that actually MAKES SENSE in the context of their world and history. Splinter wasn't JUST a lab rat, he IS and WAS Yoshi in another life, and the experiments done on him (and the boys) somehow tapped into that. It's science meets magic at its finest. (See my siggy quotes for a perfect explanation of why I love this....)

Granted there have been some choices in the art that I wasn't quite thrilled with, but I can overlook that when the story-telling has been so consistently good, and the continuity is so tight. Marvel and DC could learn a thing or two from these guys on that score. My favorite parts so far were the reveal of Chet as the Fugitoid, the Neutrinos' re-emergence in Krang War, and the first appearance of Bebop and Rocksteady in Raph's micro.

Just meant that they could do it again at some point in the future.

I'm kinda hoping they eventually get some issues where just random stuff happens like in Mirage, rather than a huge story arc after story arc.

Some of the best Mirage issues were one-shots where just some random stuff happens or it delves into the Turtles personalities. We need some of that in IDW.

Mirage kinda needed that because other than the Shredder/Triceraton related issues and City at War, the series was basically random one shots. Now they have an actual honest-to-goodness on-going series that will hopefully last longer than Volume 2, 3 and 4 and dare I say... the Archie series. The one shots could be saved for more micros.

A lot of the micro series issues are serving that purpose in the IDWverse. I am hoping to see a second round of micro series issues focusing on each Turtle in the coming year.

While the micros are perfect, it would be nice if the main book could just have one offs sometimes.
