I watched Police Story 1 & 2, which I probably hadn't seen for ten years or more - both are great. I forgot how many people go head-first through glass. Also, Jackie Chan is a terrible boyfriend.

Ant-Man. It was pretty cool, although my major gripe was the way they handled Janet. But, besides that, it was very enjoyable.

What did they do to Janet? Has Hank been slapping her around again? Please tell me they stayed away from that crap.or did they make her a ditz?

Spoiler:
As shown in a flashback, Janet supposedly and heroically sacrificed her life to stop a nuclear missile attack. Though it's hinted during one scene that she may still be alive.

Ah. Well, that's okay, then. Sounds like they kind of adapted her death from the comics, except there it was against a female version of Ultron, IIRC. I wouldn't mind that.

He gets to be on posters next to Captain America. That's like putting Chris Brown next to Superman and everybody thinks it's fine. I love people.

The current Ant-Man isn't Pym, though, and hasn't been for years, AFAIK. Last I heard, he was going by Wasp in Janet's memory after she died.

I genuinely don't care, I just felt like doing dark humor. The amount of f***s I actually have about Ant-Man can be measured in negatives, or possibly imaginary integers. No Solids.

Well, I'm not a huge fan either, just felt I should clear that up. At least they never did a beat-half-to-death lesbian issue like DC did. Ouch. I know it was meant to make a statement about hate-crimes, but still....

I wasn't aware it was a contest.

The best was when Kyle Rayner's gay buddy got beat up horrifically and Kyle decided to go fly off into space and cry about it in response. Attaboy, hero, way to set the bar. "You guys suck, I'm outta here." Comic books are silly.

If it is, they win- for being more.... graphically offensive? I just remember the panel where she's sprawled against the wall all beat-up. It was a Supergirl ish, wasn't it? But dang, I still don't see how they got that past the ratings board. And this was in the 80's, I think. Dang.

I can't remember off the top of my head really. Comics are absolutely awful at having a social conscience and it's impossible to do anything like that without being horribly ham-fisted and "accidentally" offensive. That's why I prefer it when super-heroes in comics just beat up mad scientists and try to stop people from blowing up the moon, or whatever. Social issues and super-hero comics don't mix well at all. You can't Laser Blast or Thunder Punch real-life problems like domestic violence or drug trafficking or world hunger, and it always just comes off badly whenever they try to do it.

I think the "best"-handled case was the two-parter back in the 90s where Superman handled the guy next door beating his wife. That was actually pretty delicately handled for a comic book, if a little bit graphic and completely uncomfortable. It's actually pretty good, though. Other than that, though, I don't remember too many times comic books didn't fumble the ball when trying to address things like that.

Anyone read this issue of Batman? It is from December '87. I picked it up for the cover and it was the second worst Batmsn related tale I ever read. It sets the reader up with an 8 page courtship and gets tbe reader emotionally involved and then....

Ah, I got those, I remember reading them not that long ago. I'unno, I think it was pretty good on the whole. One thing you almost never see anymore, is Batman screw up. For the longest time he always only makes the right decisions and fingers the right guy; the neat thing about 80s Batman, which makes that era of the book rather interesting to read, is that Batman made a ton of really poor choices and bad decisions over a period of years and was far from perfect, pretty much beginning with making Jason into Robin (a knee-jerk emotional reaction to Dick becoming Nightwing) all the way until Bane broke his back. It's been fashionable in recent years to bash the infallible "Bat-God" version of the character, with come good cause, but a ton of the 80s stuff was actually about dealing with the consequences of his own mistakes. This three-issue arc was a good example of that, I felt.

Hah, I just now read the article text, and it says kind of the same thing. Okay, cool.

There is actually an upcoming movie with similar content with Roberts and Kidman.

I got caught up in how good a match Kate and Bruce were and was expecting Bruce to save her from a ninja, but we were just meeting the next victim of the sickest of crime sprees.Kate dismembered in a dumpster fir no reason. It set the reader up like Batman and only showed loop holes in the laws when the law should execute the b@$tard. Just not rhe story for me

You are right about comics of the time in Batmsn and Detective Comics. From about 1985 to 28o3 Batmsn dealt with steeet level crime like drugs and murder of poor, etc.

Batman's girlfriends always die, bro! You knew she was a goner the second they said hello. 8 pages is a little swift, but still, no shocker.

It's always the same. "Hi, I'm Bruce Wayne. You are?" "F*cking dead." "What the-... oh, come ON!"
