You're assuming this movie will do well/be GOOD. If it bombs, or is a let-down, they will be screwed.

The hype has been through the roof, I've not felt this much hype since Episode II or I. It's been a hell of a ride from the announcement to the last few months of full on hype, got through most of the Clone Wars media (books/games/comics) and now I've been watching a movie each night since Thursday so I'll Finish VI on Tuesday and Wednesday I get to see VII. I don't know if after the movie I'll be totally burnt out on Star Wars like I was after III or if it'll be like II where I was still riding the hype train for the rest of the year. I kind of want to finish the Clone Wars media but there's so much I don't know if I'll be able to, I got through a lot but there's still plenty more.

I've mentioned this before but a part of me is a little sad since Star Wars will now become an annual movie series so while that is awesome for SW in general it's also never going to reach this level of hype again unless the movies die from over saturation and we don't see another film for ten years. I wish Disney had just made a new SW film every 3 years like past trilogies and then go off with spin-off films, I mean they'll make most of the money from their investment back with this film alone. Oh well, let's see how the future goes. Next time I post on this thread will be Thursday at 3 AM after having watched the movie.

I think its rather impossible for this movie to be any worse than the prequels.

The prequels made bucketloads of cash regardless of their quality.

I'm past the hype for this to be honest, if anything I'm a bit bored by it now.

JESUS, THAT SPIN, THOUGH. And here JJ was like, "Yeah, our lightsaber fights aren't gonna be as good as the prequels."

That hasn't worked out too well for those two.

Daisy Ridley will be the next Natalie Portman. She looks like a young version of her and she will be the next breakout star. Trust me.

Kinda with you. Excited and exhausted at the same time.

I'm mostly exhausted with all the "It will be good for sure, we already know that because Lucas is nowhere near it" stuff all over the internet. Real clever and original, Kreskin.

Keep in mind, I want this movie to be good and I'm pretty positive it is. But I'd also love it if it were terrible, just to see what kind of excuses the nerds would scramble to come up with this time. Not gonna lie, the sadist in me wants a Hindenburg-level unexpected disaster. Much as I love Star Wars, it would be worth it. Those kinda people make me hate the franchise just because I don't want to be lumped in with them.

But the larger, more reasonable part of me hopes it's good and it probably will be. It's just man, some Star Wars "fans" are the absolute worst and I'd love to see them start pulling their hair out in frustration if it was conclusively proven that "Star Wars - George Lucas = Flawless Perfection" theorem was incorrect. Just so they'd shut up about it already.

Its quite possible some of those upcoming Star Wars spinoff movies will be terrible. Like that Han Solo origin movie they have planned with a new young actor cast as Han. I bet if he doesn't capture Harrison Ford's face and old expressions perfectly people will hate that movie.

But I don't think any of these big ones, Episode 7-9, will be bad at all. They're the main ones after all.

But man, those upcoming Star Wars spinoff movies sound terrible. Especially since they're almost all origin movies. There's a rumored Yoda and Boba Fett origin movie planned too. *shudders*

Yeah, I don't love the idea of Star Wars becoming a once-a-year secular holiday. I think that cheapens it when you treat it like something trivial like Saw or Fast & Furious. But I'm not a trillion-dollar corporation.

By "possible" you mean "statistically certain." The world has not yet seen the worst Star Wars movie. That's a fact. There probably won't ever be anything released in theaters that's as bad as the holiday special, but one of the spin-offs will inevitably make the prequels look like Empire by comparison. As long as they're going to continue to crank them out in a meat grinder, it's only a matter of time before they have to scrape one together using all the scraps and tripe that hit the floor while they were busy making all the good ones.

But in the meanwhile we should just enjoy the good ones. It won't last forever. And I wouldn't be shocked if in another 25 years, the Star Wars "Phenomenon" has officially become, "Enough Already!" But hopefully we'll still have a while before that.

Ya see, I'm perfectly fine with Rogue One coming out, because that sounds like an interesting story? But Bobba Fett and Han Solo? Nah, leave those characters alone, especially Han Solo. No one's going to be able to see anyone but Harrison Ford as Han, so there's really no point in making that movie. We already know who the character is, and we have the comics to show more of his history.

If you're gonna make another Star Wars movie, do something about The Old Republic. There is so much cool mystical stuff from there that would serve as great material for movies.

This movie comes out tomorrow in Belgium and I'm only seeing it on the 20th.
I'm going to have to avoid this thread and Twitter like the plague.

Also, here's a reddit review

Quote:
Once the excitement dies down, you start to peel back the layers and realize there aren't any. It's time to kill the death star again again. The movie spends so much time referencing the past, walking you through the Musem of Star Wars that you wind up lost in the musem... with little reason to root for the new leads.

Probably not. But who gives a sh*t about Reddit? It's garbage.

Reading a person's honest/critical opinion is "garbage". Sound logic.

The best part about the guy's arguments for why the movie disappointed him is
Spoiler:
there's a very strong example of "Where's Poochie?" meme woven throughout the movie.

I'm tempering my expectations. Nothing wrong with that.
