What "air things"? I know you have to disarm the bombs, but as far as I know, the only way to die in the underwater level is either by the electric coral, the rotary thingy, the force fields, and the man-eating seaweed (which was INSTANT death, BTW).

They're like air pumps or something. At least that's what my parents told me. I was only a little kid when I played so I couldn't tell you.

Let me tell you a little history on how I made him.

Back in 97, when NT:TNM was on, I got really hooked on the Turtles for good. Don't be surprised, I took anything that had TMNT.

Anyway, I decided what would it be like if there were 5 Turtles instead of 4.

At first, since I was so young, and had no history on Renaissance artist, I named my Turtle at first "Romeo." Weird, huh?

Plus, since I was only 13 and still had a high voice, I made my Turtle 13 years old instead of fifteen. But I found out that would really ruin the origin of the Turtles, especially in the cartoon.

But besides that, "Romeo" blended right in with the Turtles. So every time I would watch a cartoon episode, I would study the script and then edit it to make my Turtle say it instead of another Turtle who originally said that line.

I also made up the profile. "Romeo" would be the best unknown videogamer in the city, if not the country. He would have a piece of every other Turtles' personality rolled into one. He would be the best friend of Mike and Raph.

But the thing was, he was TOO young, so I had to make him the same age as the other Turtles, for sake of the plot and origin.

Also, I just realized "Romeo" wasn't really a Renaissance name, so I had to do some research. It took me a few years to get a computer, since I had no books on Renaissance artists.

After I got one with the Internet, I quickly looked them up, and found one name that would suit my Turtle: Benvenuto Cellini.

Since "all the good ones end in O" Benvenuto was made the official name of the 5th Turtle.

Now, there was just two more problems: A weapon and a color.

Since the Turtles' bandanna colors are representations of their lives, I chose White over Black, since White is the nuetral color and the basis of all colors, just like Ben's personality.

The weapon was a toughy.

First, I tried tonfas. A little to small.

Then I tried a mace. A little more dangerous than a nunchaku, and they banned that weapon in Europe.

So, I mixed, Leo's katana blade and Don's Bo staff to create, the Naginata staff, which is a real oriental weapon. I just edited it to my liking.

And finally, after 6 years, Benvenuto, the unofficial 5th Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, was born.

The End

im glad that you didnt make him black because Slash is black and another name you could have gave him was joseph, I think there was a renaissance artist named joe he might not have been renaissance but he was an artist.

You mean Benvenuto was a real artist? I thought you just made that up. You really did do your home work. I'm impressed!

Yeah, that way, if Donatello was almost out of energy, I would clean house!

I think the rom you can find on the internet is corrupt because I cheated with some codes on my emulator but when I got to the last area the game froze up. Cheaters never prosper I guess. It froze up every time.

Yeah, I recently dusted off the old Nintendo and tried to play it again. Anyone who's beaten that game, I have a new and total respect for you. I'd forgotten how hard (impossible) that game can be! Congradulations to anyone who's beaten that game, or even came close.

Thanks, JD.

Don't worry, it's not so hard after you know the pattern of enemy attacks, especially on the last 2 levels.

Oh, Ninja Scrolls is a BIG plus!

What you say!!

OK now, I'm not going to slag any of you people's gaming skills, but.. I mean, COME ON, it isn't THAT HARD!

I... remember it well!

Some year ago, I sat down with this.. err.. seemingly incendiary piece of art for the first time in what seemed like centuries.. on an actual NES that is, prior to that I had only played it via an emulator of sorts... anyway.. I played.. and played... and got exactly to the point as described by Deathknight, the passage leading directly to the final boss, Shredder, before killing of each of my 4 beloved turtles... hands down, without a sufficient amount of scrolls, that particular 'doorway' can be EXTREMELY tough, I'll give you that. But, as I see and SAW it, that was the ONLY TRULY challenging element featured in the game. The game isn't/wasn't EASY per se, but you guys, along with several other odd bunches, are putting it on such a high pedestal, I just HAVE TO make a dissentient appearance. Seeing as I hadn't TOUCHED the game in an actual NES-friendly environment since I was.. what, 8-9, just adds more fuel to the fire.

The point being established here isn't that I de facto didn't actually BEAT the game there, but rather that any game that allows a person to breeze through 98 % of its content without getting severely stunged in the process, can hardly be classified as 'one of the hardest game for the NES'. Try Dragon's Lair, you'll know what I mean... almost impossible to beat without save state-functions, and a horrible game to boot!

Anyway, to go on a tangent... I have really hard time with people refuting the first TMNT as the worst in the entire series... all it takes is a glance at the Gamefaqs-entry in the 'reviews'-category. There ain't many favourable opinions being expressed there... I can't fathom how they can actually BELIEVE that the second and third game 'improved on the TMNT-concept in every conceivable way', as they weren't even HALF as original as their predecessor, not to mention incredibly easy in comparison...

I for one hold the first installment in the highest regard, probably my favorite of them all. Quite original, had some great music, and a well-balanced challenge; not too easy, not TOO hard.

Yeah!

/Matte

Hats off to you Ben.....I have never beaten TMNT 1. I did not have the time or the patience. It is a tough game. As for the other TMNT games on NES and SNES, I have beat TMNT 2, 3, 4. And 1 and 2 for Gameboy.
