You know I kinda like the idea of Raph using Tonfa as a weapon, its a nice alternative to Sais also when Leo was getting a new sword I was hoping it looked more like this

Raph appears too large in comparison and I miss the sai
Splinter appears to have Cushings disease

Wow, can't say I love 'em but can't say I hate 'em either

I have a few problems with the designs and the setting and the overall direction they want to take it but that's OK, I want something different and I'm getting it, I'd rather not love it and be different than another "traditional" adaptation right after the 2012 show.
Random thoughts:

*April's hair is reddish, black April redeemed her glasses remind me of what a modern Irma would look like
*Cubed doomed us with fat Ralph!
*Remember the controversy of the 2012 show when Mikey wasn't using nunchucks? I'm fine with the weapons change here since it's sort of a spin-off and reminds me of the cool different weapons they had in TNM
*Splinter looks horrible
*April's Bat hints that she will have Green Lantern like powers, ugh.
*Leo looks so much younger and inexperienced, I'm guessing that'll be his personality here since he isn't the leader.

From a pure design standpoint... I don't really like 'em.

April looks decent, at least. It's a different take, but I like the overall look. Gives a bit of a "nerdy" vibe that might hint at the original programmer/scientist version of the character. We're probably perpetually stuck with Teen April now, but this seems like a fine take on her.

The Turtles... I dunno. It's not as bad as I feared, but there's a lot of BayTurtles influence here, and overall I just think they're kind of awkward-looking, personally. I don't think these designs are going to age well. And while I'm absolutely cool with some physical variation between them (which the 2012 series handled well) this takes it kind of over the top. Hulk Raph is just... unpleasant to look at.

Splinter... yeesh, where do I begin? He looks like a rat mutated with Danny DeVito. Like the BayTurtles movies, the topknot is such a shallow, thoughtless "Japanese" stereotype of a detail that makes no actual sense for the character. Just a really weird, ugly take on the character.

I'll give the show a shot, of course, but I'm not really into this first look. (Which is fine! I'm a grown man and they're not making this for me, so it's not like I'm upset about it. Just my first gut reaction is all.)

I hope we don't get an origin story and we start off as the turtles already have had a few adventures together, this should be a "Sequel" story not another origin.

I wish the designs had had clothes, I think we're ready for it. I don't want clothes in a "Main" TMNT incarnation but since this one was already playing with the different pillars of what a TMNT show is then they should've given them clothes.


Yeah, I like that April is "nerdy", I mean she's supposed to be super intelligent might as well give her the tropes. I hope we're not stuck with Teen April, I like Teen April but I don't want every interpretation to be a teen, Adult April has plenty of potential for stories. Teen April was wasted in the 2012 show really so I hope here they utilize it more.

I don't think these designs will ever be accepted, not in the past or in the future. It'll always be seen as a black sheep like TNM has and only brought up by youtubers as a cheap gag in their videos "REMEMBER WHEN NICK DID THIS TO THE TURTLES".

If nobody complains about Earthquake being a ninja at 9' 4", I'm confused why Raph at 6' 3" or whatever is outside of suspension of disbelief.

I mean heck, he might not even be all that tall here. Maybe everyone else is just short. The Turtles have typically in most incarnations been floating around 5', right? Some versions even less than that?

Karai isn't even a major character but for me personally, I'm more interested in her than April. Anyway, if I don't like the show I might be happy with her being left in 2012 We'll see.

I think the designs are interesting, at least. I don't dislike them, anyways. I might feel more strongly about them if IDW wasn't my main source for my TMNT fix.

In any case, now that we have the main character designs I'm even more eager to learn more about this show's premise, with this mystical realm and magic weapons and alchemist enemies. This show promises to be vastly different.

I've never thought of the turtles as real blood brothers, I mean what are the chances the 4 turtles from the petshop were all from the same batch of eggs. Just like Splinter is their father, it's all more of an "adoptive" one and they're adopted brothers. That's why I never understood the outrage on TNM that they weren't related. I've posted this before on the drome and I know I'm the minority.

So we've finally seen it and what can I say? I don't love but I don't hate it either. It's very different but I do still want to see them in motion. Not a huge fan of "fat face" Splinter. April with glasses I can live with. Kinda makes her look like a cute dork. There does seem to be some Next Mutation and Bay in there. Most of the turtles look KINDA meh, but I'd say the best one is probably Mikey.

The title itself kinda suggests it'll be a fresh new origin story.
