Not digging these designs nor their accompanying weapons. Unless the trailers for this show do an amazing job, I'll be skipping out on this one.

At least there's still the IDW series.

Dear God, No!!!!!

This is Exactly what you DON'T want for TMNT! They look dumb as ....the faces are terrible...actually it's all terrible. Just an abomination really. Cross between Next Mutation and Fred Wolf with a hint of Bay Turtles. Also, anyone else notice Leo also has a single sword, Raph has Tonfas Not Twin Sai, Mikey has a Kusurigama type thing with a string and well I guess Donnie still has a Staff.

Yeah it's just TMNT GO. Let's just hope that a more adult series is in the works.

So, my feelings on the art style (and what it brings to the story) has been all over the place.

I can't pin down how I feel about it exactly, but it leans slightly towards not liking it. If I ranked the designs for all Turtles shows and movies, this one would be between Turtles 3, and The Next Mutation.

I can break it down from favorite to least favorite upon my first impression, but this might change (and my whole opinion in general) once I see the show in action. Here goes:

APRIL:
I like her. She looks good. Looks a bit dorky, which is pleasing to look at. I'm interested about her magical baseball bat because it's fun how it's both a casual/urban weapon, and supernatural at the same time.
Her outfit looks fun and much more interesting to look at than the 2012 design. Seems like a fun and upbeat character. My favorite so far.

LEONARDO:
The poster doesn't make him justice, but the solo art for him speaks more of him. I like the red ear sliders (trade)marks over his eyes. Makes him look a bit more sinester, but at the same time, the rest of the design makes it impossible to take him too seriously. A bit bummed about him losing a sword, but in its place, he has one magical sword which reminds me of the sword of tengu from the 2003 toon.

RAPHAEL:
Some getting used to. I don't mind him being the leader. The design is pretty cool... but him now being a snapping turle, and now wielding tonfas over sais (seriously, guys... sais are generally non-bladed and non-stabbing weapons. They're blunt tipped small tridents used to disarm. No need to make him kid-friendiler) I feel he could have been a whole other turtle because of his new specie and weapon change. Tonfas are cool, though. Can't wait to see him in action.

MICHAELANGELO:
A sort of.... meh design. He's still the more childish looking turtle, which isn't bad. I'm not feeling the unnecessary change from Nunchakus to "kusari-yoyo" (though technically, it's not even kusari since it looks like a string).
Not a big fan in particular for his kneepad designs, I feel it starts to distract too much. Also, either his weapon catches fire, or it's magical. Either way, I'm starting to see a few magical weapons here. I loved chucks though...

DONATELLO:
I don't get what's up with this character. He's a soft-shelled turtle, ok. He has to wear some kind of armor, because... maybe the species name implies he can't take too many hits...? It will take some used to, but it's weird to me seeing him using a "shellpack". He still retains his staff, though. Although for whatever reason they decided to give it a sharp-looking tip, making it a spear. Also, he has a Gamecube on his head.

SPLINTER:
Ugh... you ok there buddy?
Seriously, this one sticks out as the ugliest version of Splinter I've ever seen. Which is a huge contrast to the 2012 Splinter which to me stands as the best version so far.
Can't really comment on the design becasuse.. man, what am I looking at? Master Happossai from Ranma fused with the Ancient one from 2003?

In general.
I think the designs are ugly, but in a pug-like so ugly it's cute kind of way.
Some designs are so much better than other.
I think I can tank through the designs if the show has a good story, and smart dialogue. Or better yet, if the animation makes the designs look great. Nick 2012 set the bar high when it comes to action scenes, so I don't think this show (particularly due to how 2D is more expensive to animate) will surpass it.

The lore changes puzzle me a bit.
It'll be fun seeing how Raphael will perform as leader for once, I have no problem with this.
But I feel they were going for a more kid-friendly version, giving Raph tonfas (which look "more" blunt than sais, which again... are already blunt usually), or a Yoyo to Mikey. But they stopped halfway through because then there's Donnie having a tip in the staff making it a spear (sharp weapon), although TBH, I think it'll be there just for looks. And Leo using a single sword, which is still another sharp weapon. (So he's most likely the designated robot-slayer).

So, I'm definitely giving this show a chance. Heck, I might end up watching a whole season before I make up my mind.

EDIT: Forgot to add.
My favorite thing about the show so far... It's 2D! If we're going for something specific here, then it's a coin toss between April (and her powers) and Leonardo's Sword of Tengu.

I honestly don't mind these designs. They're cute enough to me. They certainly stand out from other incarnations. Not in a bad Bayturtles way though, more that they're just very nice and stylized. April looks cute too. Only design I'd say I flat out hate is Splinter.

So, I have some speculation here. What if in this incarnation, they start off as humans? Sounds out there, sure, but TBH, as long as the core idea is there (this case, they're mutants, not aliens *coughcoughbaycoughcough*), I'm good. I'm up for some variation so long as it doesn't go too far.
Anyways, maybe that's why they're different species of turtle? Baron was responsible, that's why they're fighting him. Could give another meaning to the name "Rise" too. Sure, it could just refer to them going top-side for the first time, but what if this is an origin story? This is how they came to be. Maybe it's why Raph is leader, because the idea of being heroes is so new and sudden. Raph seems like the best, seems strongest and most capable, so he's leader at first.
Also, I just like the idea of them wondering what to do. They can't go back to their old life. Family and friends they can't go back to. So they want to get back at Baron, keep him from doing that anyone else.
Stupid idea, maybe, but I like it. Could be an interesting take. Like I said, it's cool to see something new IMO.

Edit: Forgot to add on that execution is everything. Or at least of good chunk of selling ideas. Could have a great idea, but poor execution makes it crap, or an iffy idea, but great execution makes it well, great.

If you said it looked like the original Teen Titans, I'd still disagree but at least it wouldn't be that far off so I'd let it be but TTG is a totally different art style.




As far as Splinter, he grew on me once I heard the Voice Actor, they're going for that dubbed martial arts trope of the grouchy teacher, also reminds me of the ancient one from 2k3.

I don't really like the new designs, but they aren't as jarring to me as I thought they would be.

They aren't anymore jarring to me than when I first saw the Nick turtles... heck maybe even less so because since Nick, there have been radical changes to the design of the turtles and the characters in the cartoons and movies. I'm used to it by now. And I don't think anything can trump the outlandishness of the Michael Bay Turtles.

Their dynamic looks way more fun than it was in the 2012 show. While I hope Apriltello doesn't happen again, I hope that it's at least done better this time around if it does.

They're not ideal, but I can see them working.

90% of the people in that resetera thread barely know anything about TMNT and probably haven't watched any of the latest shows or read the comics. I don't see why people care.

I haven't even checked twitter or tumblr yet, I know I shouldn't but I won't be able to look away
