I'm happy to see 87 Mona Lisa back for another issue.

Not much of interest this month. I don't know why Nightwatcher is an ongoing series. Mutant Nation looks good.

Good to see the Nick comics getting another collection, the Nick 2012 TMNT comics were pretty fun.

Wasn’t Sophie Campbell supposed to be credited as a co-writer for Mutant Nation? Was she dropped? Not that I’m complaining if she was.

Both Waltz and Campbell have had their flaws as writers as far as introducing too many plot threads and mystery boxes that took to long to resolve, if ever, Waltz’s work was more like reading an engrossing Tom Clancy novel compared to Campbell’s slice of life fan fiction in an overly decompressed medium that modern comic books are.

At least I felt like I got my money’s worth with Waltz’s work. Meanwhile, one could almost ignore Campbell’s work save for her contribution's to the Armageddon Games arc.

Also where is the main series this month? I hope it's not alternating between it and Mutant Nation or something. Jason Aaron's run needs to build momentum especially among casuals coming into IDW TMNT for the first time.

Honestly I don't get what they're going for with this frenzied multi-approach/let's try and please everyone now thing but I'm curious to see if it pays off. Generally speaking a new #1 of a core volume is accompanied by nothing else and then organically builds new stuff from that, from a new beginning. But maybe they know what they're doing.

Mutant Nation is akin to TMNT Universe in that each story arc will have different writers and artists working on it. Plus it'll have back up strips as indicated by the Casey story in issue 1

V2#2 was originally slated for September 4th (see the pull-list page on the previous solicits thread) but it's been bumped to September 11th.

The current plan is:
JULY > V2#1 / UDFC#5
AUG > NW#1
SEP > V2#2 / MN#1
OCT > V2#3 / NW#2
NOV > V2#4 / NW#3 / MN#2
DEC > V2#5 / NW#4 / MN#3

I see as long as the new series comes out every month. I do think newcomers will be confused by Mutant Nation and Nightwatcher and all this other stuff.

It feels like IDW is trying to have its cake and eat it too by flooding the market with TMNT books. So many issues but I doubt many are going to spend $20 or more a month on just TMNT comics.
