Which comic to buy?

I reeeaaaally think I need to get some of the comics--but ninjaturtles.com lists SO MANY @_@ And I'm on dialup with a brother that attaches to the computer like a leech (despite that I work 40 hrs a week so he could easily use ALL that time, plus the time when I'm asleep since he doesn't have a job)...so trying to search through the summaries has been hard....

Recomendations?

I LOVE the new series but I don't want to read something that 's *exactly* like it in plot/dialogue/etc. But similar would be cool. And I don't think I'm quite ready for the whole "April is pregnant and Splinter is dying" stuff @_@

But I looooove Mikey with Raph coming in second (but his angst is starting to wear on me...there's more than enough of that iRL kthx). I like sci-fi, am a Star Trek and Star Wars fan but I get bored with sci-fi that's there just for the sake of sci-fi or just for the sake of showing off cool ships ;p Battle scenes are cool but not FOREVER...my mind is dum with spatial stuff and doesn't link how we move from one panel to another very well. I love complicated twisted weird plots and a dark edge to them is perfectly great.

I'd like to get ALL the comics obviously XD; but $$ is haaard... So I'd like to focus on just one series and try and get my hands on a number of issues in that series instead of a couple issues from each series like I did with X-men...that's insane and confusing and you don't really get anywhere. (What'd be better is a book-sized collection of the comics like I have with Spiderman... I'm afraid of loosing/ripping these little magazine things ;___; but I've heard there isn't one published yet ): )

Also, where is a good place to get them? ebay? any other on-line place? comic stores? I've browsed a few but if I had ever seen a TMNT comic I would've bought it on the spot so I must not be looking in the right places...

I haven't checked what they have on the official site actually, I should do that but anyway...

Mirage Volume One all the way then.

Make sure you get the first few issues. They all flow together. Since you love star trek and star wars sci-fi you should like issues 4-6 a lot (turtles in space ones)

I have the collected books of issues 1-3 and 4-6 in colour and they're great

Then I know you said you don't want direct stuff you've seen in the new show but you NEED Leonardo #1 (shredder strikes back part 1 was based on this), Issue 10 (follows Leo#1) as well as all 3 Return To New York books. They are all awesome, great artwork, story...everything
You also need all City At War comics since they're considered the zenith of turtles comics I think. I still need to get my hands on some

Other ones I'd try and get would be Michaelangelo #1
Tales Volume #1 Issues: 4 and 6 (You see Rat King and Leatherhead for the first time)
From then on you'd have to judge what sort of stories you like and you can always ask about ones you're interested in here since someone has probably read it

I only recently managed to grab a load of the great comics because I found a store near me with them. Try doing a google search for a comic store locator, it's how I found another near me that carries volume 4 rather than just old books

Sometimes you can't but a lot of the time you can guess by what they say, who's standing where and whether they're called by their name then or not

But generally I've never really found a problem telling who's who when it's important

Which comic to buy? Buy 'em ALL, bay-bee!
*ahem* Sorry. Um...

Well, if you're a big fan of the old toon, the Archie series is a good bet.
If you're a fan of the movies and the new toon, the Mirage series (ALL of them) is the way to go.
And if you like a more darker and freakier edge to the TMNT, get the Image series.

BTW, if you've heard of him, get the ones with the boys teaming with Savage Dragon. Good stuff, IMO.

Try Ebay. You can get great deals there. When I started collecting TMNT comics a few months ago, the first thing I got was 50 comics for $25. Now in about 3 months I have over 180 TMNT comics.

hahaha ALL of them, well of course that's what I'd LIKE but I will start in small doses...through future mutants er..best comics. And then expand outward as the $ becomes available.

Yup definitely fan of the movies and new toon and the more I watch the new show the more it drags me deeper and deeper into the bowels of el turtle-ablo (not that I mind in the least), so stuff that's like that (especially Mikey) is great.

It sounds like you really like the new toon, so I'd go for mirage. The new toon got me into mirage and now it's slowing becoming my favorite TMNT universe.

Mirage volume 1 sounds like what you want. But the early issues are hard to get. Especially first prints. The early issues are also the ones that are done by Laird and Eastman. Around #15-#49, there are a lot of comics that don't flow together. This is due mostly because they are made by a collection of writers and artists. Laird has even pullen a few of them from continuity. Then the City at War series (which is around #50-#60) would also be good to get, but agian are more difficult to obtain.

Volume 2, which is entirly in color, deals with Baxter so you might like that, as Baxter is a main character in the new toon. There were only like 13 in that volume and they are still pretty easy to get.

Volume 3 goes back to black and white and has a much darker tone. This volume was also done by Image and not Mirage, so Laird does not consider this part of continuity. The turtles also get pretty mangled, like turning into robots and stuff. The new toon does not follow this at all.

I think you can still buy many of these (at least from Volume 2 and 3) on the official website, but I'm not sure.

How can I figure out which ones are in contunuity? Is there a guide somewhere?

How do I tell which volume it is and whether it's mirage, etc? is the title just 'TMNT', will it say anywhere what volume it is and stuff--where do I look?

What would be the price range to look for?

You sure ask a lot of questions.

Just log on to the official site and look around. Check "Merch" or "Buy Stuff".

Questions = answers = less questions more yay, so yes I do ask a lot ;p

I already checked the official site before I even started asking stuff... and minus the confusion, it's incredibly hard to navigate for me because my computer and internet are INCREDIBLY slow--but I did already mention that problem when I first posted.

The confusion parts... they list down one side: Mirage TMNT Vol 4, Vol 1, Vol 2, Dreamwave's etc, then down the other side Mirage Tales 2, Tales, Mirage Specials, Image, etc.

Can't figure out if it's going newest to oldest or what order it's supposed to be in and a bunch are listed as Mirage but I don't know whether I'm supposed to look for Mirage TMNT or Tales of and if there's a way to identify which it is besides trying to memorize the style the title is written in And if the issue lists are in chronological order by when published, or by story continuity, are there only 62 of the TMNT vol1 series or is that just the amount of covers they have loaded, why do the collected books skip issue #s, what's the TMNT#1 deluxe reprint, yadda yadda...

Ok, here's the order of Mirage:

Vol. 1
Vol. 2
Vol.3 (Image...isn't considered canon)
Vol.4(the current series)

And then there's the specilas and Tales vol.1 and Tales vol.2 The tales series fill in gaps between different arcs, volumes, etc. And then there's the archie series and the dreamwave series which are a different continuity from Mirage.
