Transformers: Infiltration (IDW)

[DrSpengler]

Well, Infiltration #1 came out today. I was hoping it would be an improvement over #0 but it wasn't. I still hate the characters, especially Verity.

Plot rundown:

Spoiler:

Verity and Hunter ride with Ratchet (who's appearing to them in the form of a creepy hologram that won't stop smiling). Verity won't shut up about how Hunter must be trying to rape her because he's sitting so close to her.

Hunter then realises that the ambulance he's in must be one of the alien robots he's been searching for all his life (he's a conspiracy theorist Mulder-wannabe). Just then, the Battlechargers attack. But Ratchet uses various defenses to escape them and a strafing Thundercracker.

Verity takes out the palm-pilot thing she stole in #0 and gets real defensive and bitchy the moment Hunter asks where she got such an advanced computer. Turns out it's the device the Decepticons are after.

Verity directs them all to go see her ninnernet friend, Jimmy Pink, who runs an autoshop. Jimmy gets to work on fixing up Ratchet while the Decepticons lock on to the profile of the Ethergrid (the palm-pilot) and get ready to track them down.

Ratchet discusses his origins with Hunter while Verity buts in every chance she gets to complain about over-active testosterone. Turns out that Ratchet is actually helping the humans AGAINST Ironhide's orders, because he's such a caring robot.

Verity then grabs the Ethergrid, has a hissy-fit and decides to leave. She then comes running back inside because the Decepticons have located them. The Battlechargers attack and all the humans climb inside Ratchet.

My thoughts:

Spoiler:

I think my only complaint is that Verity chick. I can deal with the lack of robots, but "super bitch" gets real annoying real fast. Characters who are actually interesting are having a conversation and she butts in every second with some stupid high-and-mighty PMS-tripping insult. Irritating.

Overall I would have enjoyed the issue so much more if Verity hadn't been so distracting. Ratchet was done quite well, though. Particularly his holographic driver with the creepy grin.

After everything that happened with Dreamwave. Im very reluctant to buy anything that has transformers and comic book in the title, but after reading this review.. i may pick it up.

Spoiler:

Looks like Furman is sending up the annoying humans from Transformers with Verity, making her likeable, and more beleivable than say...Rad, Carlos, or Danny. Alexis was the best human in TF before that during Armada

I never got the dislike of the humans in the transformers mythos. they are an important part of the story. they help to humanize the transformers. JUST MY OPINION. Please dont verbily rape me.

The only human to ever "humanize" anyone in TF was Alexis, she was given a major player with Starscream, the other humans do not have such a reputation, Kicker even hanged out more with that petty excuse for Ironhide in Energon.

Even if I liked Spyke, he contributed really nothing to the show until around the third season. Daniel was given an ambigiously gay duo pairing with minor player Wheelie, Beast Wars proved for two seasons, heck, all three years you do not need humans as an essential part of TF mythology

As much as I like Alexis/Starscream, turning the deceptive double crossing schemer into a caring pansy was going too far in straying from his character traits.

I just want them to get to the robots shooting at each other! What the hell takes so long? This is going to end up like the DW TMNT series. It'll get cancelled before any action starts up.

armada isnt g1 screamer though. oh well. i just. when i think of humanizing transformers i think of jazz, and blaster. they wouldnt be the way they were if not for interacting with people.

your kidding right? there was almost none stop action in volume three of the G1 book. with barely any human interaction. the entire omega supreme, starscream sunstreaker fight was awesome.

What the hell are you talking about? Where did I say anything about any other TF comics? I'm talking about this series.
