kya sat to a plateful of delicious dinner.
Kya: Michelangelo, it looks and smells incredible. Thank you for cooking...

M: no problem. glad to help. been too long since i went to work in here. (he tilted his head) looks? smells? (he chuckled) It's for EATING. dig in! tell me if it tastes good too...

Half way through his speech, kya's eyes opened just a bit wider and a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. Mike kept talking, but did a quick "hand count."

M (internal)Nope... Two for Don. Two for Kya. huh... oh yeah.... footsie... (He caught don's eye and winked.) way to go Don-o.

Leo passed a plateful to Vespera and another down to his Sensei. Admittedly his eyes lingered a bit longer on Vespera than they did on Splinter.

kya saw kameko in the doorway and waved from the table.
kya: good to see you up and around Kamita! Sit! (kya passed a full plate to her) Eat! (whispered) If you're still puffy after dinner, you should take some tylenol for the swelling.

That was all Kya had to say about the injury. She knew not to push about it while others were watching. Injuries were only embarrassing when people made a fuss. It was much better to just forget about them as soon as possible.

Kameko: fell. it was late and i didn't wanna bother anybody. I tended to it myself. then this morning Kya tackled me with a need and thread and closed it up tight. s'ok now.

she shovelled a gob of fish into her mouth. determined to discourage further questions.

kya looked at her, then at Splinter and Don and nodded.
Kya(swallowing) yup 7 sticthes. Leo and Machias saw.

Leo paused as he brought some rice to his mouth.
L: yeah, right before practice.

Kam: KYA, DON"T apologize. this ain't about who's fault it is for not telling him. I don't need to be BABIED. excuse me sensei. Leo, mike, Vespera, Kya, Don. I don't think i'm fit company.

She gathered her drink and her plate and headed for the door.

He could chase after her, which would lead to a massive fight, while at the end of it he probably still wouldn't have seen the wound, and she'd be pissed, and people would be yelling. Right. That one was out. He might talk to her later, but it would be after she calmed down. That left the need to break the rather awkward silence that was beginning to stretch at the table.* Mike, could you pass the vegetables?

*At the same time Splinter* Leonardo, please pass the fish.

*And Vespera added to the trio*Dontallo, could I have the salt.

*There was silence, then the three started to laugh.*

kya heated up her family's meals and recruited Vespera and Don to help her carry the skulls and food into her room and set in on the floor flanking the shrine. She thanked them both profusely and, promising to come get them when her family had arrived, ushered them out the door so she could pray.

Mike sat back and rubbed his stomach.
M: that was a gooood fish. Well, Leo? you gonna clean this up or what?

Leo's too full to argue much. So, he "accidently" drops some rice down the back of Mike's shell while clearing the dishes.

*Splinter relaxed in the living room. someone had cleaned up the mess left by the coffee table through the wall, neatly figleafing it so the hole wasn't glaringly obvious. Kids. Why do I have kids that are murder on the furniture? He hoped to talk to Raphael, soon, but knowing his son as he did, Splinter did not expect him home until sometime tomorrow morning at the earliest*

*Donatello and Vespera returned to the kitchen, and despite Mikes protests that Leo had tried to stuff him for roasting, the four managed to clean the kitchen in short order before joining Splinter in the living room.*

*Vespera looked around. It was after dark now, and the worst of the figments had started. The lair was almost crowded with people, and other things. Many were dressed in clothes that would have fit in previous time periods, some had no more than a passing aquaintance with humanity. Through it all, her mother stood in the corner, and observed. I told you to go away Mother! I don't believe in you! You aren't real. Quit bothering me! Vespera felt as if someone poured a gallon of icewater down her back. Her mother looked directly at her, and answered. No.*

*She supressed a shiver, and turned her back resolutely to join the conversation flowing around her. She's never talked to me before...*

Laughter and voices erupted from the closed door to Kya's room in the hall. Leo got up and stared down the hall, hands on hips, as though demanding an answer from the empty space. Her door remained shut and the voices and the sounds of moving bodies, clanking plates, some crying, lots of laughing, and high pitched exclamations of "COL!! CO_O_OL!!! MIRA! MIRA!" wafted past him into the living room.

M: (blinking owlishly at Leo) sheesh... sounds like they're here. Or Kya's a mad ventriloquist.

(((trans: Col! Co-o-oL!! LOOK'IT!!! LOOOK!!)))

*Splinter raised an eyebrow at the noises coming from Kya's room. He was very glad now that he had given permission for this. It wasn't a ritual based on faith. It seemed to be a ritual based on fact.*

*Vespera looked at the bedroom and the noises coming from it. No one else is reacting to anything in here. That means that everything else in this room is a figment. They ARE reacting to the noises in the other room. That means that who ever is in there, is real... Life wasn't nearly this complicated before!*

the volume increased sharply and the higher pitched voices were shushed audibly. Kya peeked out and seeing Leo in the hallway, she made shooing gestures to him. The grin on her face ran from ear to ear.

Leo slowly came back to the sofa. Mike grinned at him.
M: so NOW what? Should we smile or nod first, Leo?
LEo either didn't hear or just chose not to acknowledge Mike's reference to Leo's prior skepticism.

A pair of feet picked up the pace and came down the hall at a flat-out run. Something small bounced off the wall by the doorway and came to an awkward stop just out of sight. It was silent for a heartbeat.

a head of curly black hair peeked around the corner of the door frame maybe 3 feet off the floor. The eyes under all the hair grew and grew as they stared. With a sharp giggle of laughter and shouts of "TORTUGAS!! TORTUGAS!! Y UN RATON MUY MUY MUY GRANDE!!!!!" the little face turned form the livingroom and in a clatter of feet raced back up the hall back to the group it had come from.

Mike: (grinning nervously) oooh-kay.

The tall, thin man at kya's side did not acknowledge her or her formal tone. He kept his dark eyes fixed on Splinter's and nodded once. Slowly.

EMILIO: Quisiera Ud tener cuidado de mi hija. Por Que?

kya (blushing and trying to get her father's attention without interrupting) Padre, ingles....

He ignored her and waited for an answer from Splinter. This wasn't about getting an anwser to his question, but rather, getting a measure of the being who had adopted his daughter. And the dead man didn't care who knew it.

Emilio let his shoulders relax, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth, he offered a hand.

Kya let out a quiet sigh. The subtle reminder of her family's 'guest' status had been just the right chord. Her father would behave civily, certain that he was in the company of a strong-willed, but tactful man. Men were superior to women, but they were NOT all created equal and her father was too proud to bend his neck for anything BUT an equal.

Emilio: The pleasure is entirely mine, Don Splinter. My family will be eternally grateful for your hospitality. May I present my son, Jaime.

Emilio getured without looking and a shorter 13 yr old version of himself stepped from behind the cluster of females in the doorway. Though physically very much like his father, Jaime's gaze seemed inward rather than out. He was at his father's side quickly, regardless of the dreamy cast to his eyes.

Splinter repeated the formal bow to Jamie, but this time it was not as deep, nor as long. No longer a greeting of equals, but a declaration of politeness.* A fine son Gastelum-san. Please, allow me to introduce mine. Leonardo, Donatello, and Michaelangelo.

*Vespera stayed on the couch. Polite smile in place, and lips firmly shut. She hadn't seen anything this archaic since she took history class in school. She had no idea what the proprieties were, and was going to keep her lips shut so she didn't bullox it up for Kya. In the corner her mother shifted. Perhaps it is time you spoke with your own family Vespera. She didn't turn, didn't lose the smile, none of it. Shut UP mother!*

*Donatello stood and bowed when he heard his name called. ALL of his anxieties were back, but he kept them under firm lock and key, and his face serene

Mike stood as well and after bowing wordlessly at Kya's father, waved cheerfully at Jaime.

Emilio acknowlegded each of the Turtles. He extended a hand for a biref firm shake to Leo, Don and raised an eyebrow at Mike, but didn't comment.

E: (to Splinter as though Leo, Mike, and Don were not there at all) TRIPLETS. And all in fine form. You must be very proud.

kya flashed a reassuring smile at Don and slipped back towards her mother and sisters.

Mike stood as well and after bowing wordlessly at Kya's father, waved cheerfully at Jaime. M: hello! Emilio acknowlegded each of the Turtles. He extended a hand for a biref firm shake to Leo, Don and raised an eyebrow at Mike, but didn't comment. E: (to Splinter as though Leo, Mike, and Don were not there at all) TRIPLETS.
