So do you think that the different colors of ooze in the cartoon were just random color choices, or in fact different variations of the stuff with different mutanagenic properties? It's been so long since I've watched the OT and actually paid attention I can't remember when any why the colors changed.

Random color choices. The initial mutagen changed from purple to green depending on the episode. In Turtle Tracks it's purple but in the flash back sequences in Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko it's green. Tutti Frutti was only one episode, Wererats from Channel 6. Mostly it was green.

My theory would be that it is green by default but may appear purple/pink in the right lighting.
