Let's Watch: Jackie Chan Adventures
Decided, since it's been just about ten years since this show ended, to watch the entire thing from the beginning just to refresh the memories and see how much of it holds up.
Let's begin with Episodes One and Two, and from there on, I will watch one episode daily Episode One: -Traps still spring -People still touch anything -A well-timed kick conveniently positions a javelin into the closing door, providing a way out, everyone clears the room but Jackie, darts soon start flying everywhere, we get our first meme of the series (BAD DAY, BAD DAY, BAD DAY) -Jackie uses a shield to deflect the darts (something important is embedded in the shield, we'll get to that later) -Jackie uses Spidey-like agility to climb into a shaft and slide down a cavern and bursts straight through a...concrete wall? -Follow him,, if you follow me... (Black and Valmont observing Jackie) -Somersalting to earn a hug...gets a slap in the noggin. Uncle is ever a trap! -YOU WANT DEAD UNCLE? NO, THEN YOU MAKE COFFE -There it is. He said it. Several times. -Lumbering you with a kid for a year is considered less bothersome than telling you about it first. -The Dark Hand...erm...show their hand by using a hand to tip over several vases, Jackie makes the save -More like in your vase's best interests Flynn, but whatever -YOU TERRIBLE SALESMAN -Love how assertive Jackie is here, just going straight to tracking the Hand rather than sit still and ponder their ultimatium, what a hard-ass.... -...And then a pipe has to give way and send him crashing into the car...so much Parker luck for Mr. Chan. -Jackie's endurance sustains him as the Dark Hand plough their car straight into a steel fence -Electrical tuning forks...erm...swordplay at work! -Windscreen wipers to wipe the floor with these mooks. -PLAYTIME OVER, GO, GO, GO -Jackie of the Jungle Gym -It's a gas to be abducted by Section 13 -Did they ever do a flashback episode where Jackie met Black six years ago? Time travel does play a part in the show from what I remember of it... -"I can see this is some very special GARBAGE" will now be my line for most upcoming mainstream comic books -I suspect this phone booth thing has happened to a lot more curious members of Joe Public than Jackie. -"The Stairs"...rofl -There's so many paralels between this and original TMNT with the villians...hardass evil army of crime connected to nefarious criminal organizations, and by the second and third seasons the flanderization is abudant. -Shendu...dude, you could have just sent the Shadow-Khan in the first place... -Jade appropriates a motorcycle and manages to get it down the stairs without anyone noticing. Copy that. -Actually, skip that, they're actually pointing out all the plot contrivances. Good.] -SHIELD NOT IMPORTANT (I told you that earlier) -Tohru kidnaps Uncle, and I presume took Jackie's contact details with him so Valmont could phone him. -Scout's honor...like I'm a scout -Jackie's rooftop walkthrough...I feel the urge to get out the old GBA game -Tohru in the elevator with his serious face while the music is playing. Oh it's an adorable cliche passtime in the medium -Black being all condescending to Uncle -Jade's gotten wise, and I like that they sort of hold back on not showing what the Talisman can yet do. The whole thing was playing off the shield's importance (and lack thereof), the only thing with this of course is if you paid attention to the title sequence, and had a keen eye, you'd know the tailsman was what they were after where it was concerned Episode Two: -"Why's the boss taking guff from a statue?"...ok, Shendu's probably been hanging around a bit, and that gets brought up? "'Cause it talks" comeback equally redundant. -Jackie's probably right to still the question of authenticity of the talisman magic since we have'nt seen it's power on display yet, but he was attacked by an armada of demon ninjas earlier -"Hello? CHEW SOUP?" -Swallowing a talisman like that ought to leave a lodge in the throat or something judging from the size it's displayed on screen -Strangling someone with a tie for comedic effect kids! -Valmont's unphased method in dealing with irritation is so to-the-point ("you will be punished" said almost like a sigh) -Shendu creating a Talisman tracker out of his own shell is a great touch and shows that, Shadow-Khan summoning capabilities aside, he's not entirely powerless in that form -Chase across the city, Jade has incredibly dicey agility on the skateboard, more times than not in the cruel unfair world that propels you in front of a truck, not on top of one. -Jackie deals with the ShadowKhan during the pursuit, but Tohru is there to literally pick up the pieces (how does he catch up with all that weight?) -Jade crashes full on into a "under construction" sign, does'nt trip up or fall off the skateboard, ploughs straight ahead. -Interesting how one Shadow-Khan stays behind to try and complete the mission while the others fly off. -With all this wild agility Jackie does to keep his feet firmly on the bridge's foundations, Jade finding out she can fly due to the Tailsman she's swallowed really does'nt look all that astonishing -"Just wait 'till the Jackinator gets here, you're gonna get so creamed"...I'm...erm...I'm actually interpreting that in a very uncomfortable way... -It's so strange to think Tohru turns babyface and becomes protective of Jade and you see him about to gut her open for a Tailsman -YES, Jackie points out that she far too easily swallowed something the size of a golf ball! -Like the little touch of Jackie trying to fiddle through Fynn's jacket for the keys to the handcuffs in the fight, can't find it in one pocket, so tries the other. Good spot of "trial and error" -Jade has a killer instinct with that swordfish attack! -Surprised the building did'nt cave in -Oh god this end credits song...glad they dumped it after one season. |
