Mutating TMNT Figures
I just got back from my wal-mart and I managed to snag a Mutating Raph and a Mutating Mike. I'm only going to post one review seeing as they are basically the same figure.
The figure is actually almost all brand new scuplting. While the pictures we saw earlier looked like they were just repaints with new heads, these figures have brand new arms, legs, feet, hands, chest, side pieces and shell. They are more detailed than the old ones. The head is the same one used on the first wave turtles only with a shorter bandana. The arms and legs are both ball jointed and the ankles are jointed as well leaving the figures with 9 points of articulation but the arms are less articulated, so it is a trade off. (9 points seem really small, I guess I'm spoiled with the marvel legends series) However, there are some downsides to this: Raph and Mike (I'm also assuming Leo and Don) all use the same scuplt with the exception of the head. Also, when mutated, the bandana sticks out of the shell slightly. My other complaint about the figures is the fact that they have no tail! In terms of the weapons, they're really pathetic. All they get are reissued weapons from the first wave. On top of that they only get their basic weapons. All of these annoying aspects are easily overlooked by the fact that each figure comes with a canister of ooze. I would say you get about 3 times the amount that comes with the TMNT Mega Blocks kits. But it isn't the same substance as the mega blocks ooze. This stuff is thicker. It reminds me of Gak (remember that stuff?) All in all, I give the turtle figures 3 out of 5 stars. They are by no means great but for those who missed out on the mutating turtles the first time, I recommend picking up atleast one of these. |
