How does TMNT survive?

In the old toon, tmnt basically lived on pizza and nobody really bothered if four giant turtles walked in to a pizza place and ordered some.

But in the new toon and in the comics, everyone freaks out when they show themselves so what does they eat?
Yes, they could order take away food and solve it like they did in the first movie but where does they get the cash to pay for it?

Has this matter ever been explained or are we supposed to know that mutant turtles live on the air they breathe?
