Showed the TMNT anime OVAs to my friends...

They did not go over well.

So a week ago, my friends went to see the new TMNT movie and decided to watch a whole bunch of old TMNT crap after we got home. I brought over my DVD of the two TMNT anime OVAs because my friends were real curious as to how bad they were.

Oh man, they couldn't stand them. I mean, they watched them both, but by the end they were just begging for the things to be over.

They thought they were funny at first, but as the OVAs went along they almost started to get mad (well, there was beer involved). We all came to the consensus after the first OVA that the Japanese should never again be allowed to touch Ninja Turtles fiction.

Their main complaint was "this isn't Ninja Turtles, this is just some generic anime". They especially hated the Super Mutant redesigns of the Turtles and truly loathed Kris Mu (though they thought Dark Mu was kinda funny, mostly because we referred to her as "the Bondage Fairy"). The whole sentai/Power Rangers elements also turned them off.

They did get a kick out of a few parts.

Krangs voice put them in stitches. They also all screamed a unanimous "WTF!!?!" when SPlinter caught Dark Devil Shredder's gigantic energy ball, Dragonball Z-style.

Overall, though, it was more enraging than entertaining.

Personally, I think the OVAs are...er..."interesting" footnotes in the TMNT's history. Not particularly good, but strange enough to warrant my purchasing the DVD, anyway.
