Shredder's Voice

Does anyone know why Shredder's original voice was changed for good near the end of the 1993 season? The original Shredder by James Avery was the best; the other voice actors never quite captured the essence of the character.

"Hello, boss. How did you get our private phone number?"
"Simple. I dialed M for moron!"
