It's not even a matter of hardcore fans versus casual fans or, non-fans, because I've seen all three spell it that way. Then there are people like my co-worker (a casual fan, mostly of the old stuff), who spells and pronounces it with an L, despite constant correction. It's weird. Is there something with the word that I'm not getting that is in an association? I was thinking about Marvel's Ultron for a bit, but not everybody is familiar with that character, and they're nothing alike.

I guess people are just combining the words "Ultra" and "Terminator". But he's obviously an Utrom, so i dunno.
