Very cool! Glad you're giving us a lot of TMNT work this year.

How much of a hand did you have in the character creation? Did you pick mole as the next mutant or was that part of the story already when you were brought on?

I'm so excited to see what Karai has been up to in Japan and to learn more about the Foot Clan

I am even more excited about Ocho now ! It'll be nice to have a strong girl presence in the story, reversing what's been the norm in TMNT.

It was my idea to put Ocho in, she's my new baby. I did my usual thing of barging in and making demands on what to put in the story, haha. I'd been wanting there to be a land/earth character for a while to along with Koya/wind and Bludgeon/water. A couple years ago I did a bunch of mole character sketches for a pitch I never finished, and when the Karai story came along I got the chance to use the character. And I've wanted to name a character Ocho for a long time so I finally got to do it!

The only thing was that Karai didn't have any way of creating mutants, we had to do something else so Erik and I came up with a different origin. I can't spoil anything but Ocho isn't a mutant.

Wow, TMNT/Usagi! And more female characters. Yes!! I'm so excited. I'm really liking the designs for Karai, Koya, and Ocho. I've always loved Koya and how frightening she can be. Curious to see how she deals with the loss of her wings. So glad to see you doing more TMNT, Sophie!

I think this is the first time we've seen long-haired Karai in any TMNT medium, since she always has short hair. Unless I'm forgetting something.

Yeah, Ocho is all Sophie inspiration. Good rule of writing: if the person who has to draw the story gets excited, and it either doesn't change the story you're telling in a major way or does help it (this was the latter -- Ocho fit a role that needed filling!) always include the inspiration. (:

The name, though, I admit it, I was trying to think of something that wasn't Spanish that I could sell Sophie on, just given our origin for our mole pal. I couldn't think of anything that worked better, though, so Ocho it is!

....Maybe I'll try to sneak in a joke. Koya names her that because "You look like something I ...8." hahaha.

What I'm most excited about though, is what we've done with Bludgeon. I suggested something I thought Bobby or Nickelodeon might say no to -- but they didn't.

Sophie's pages (and backup) are fantastic. I'm so pscyhed for this to come out. I've really, really missed playing in the TMNT sandbox!
