Well, a lot of the characters have something that would give them an edge in combat over normal people, but with many of them it's the same something; namely mutant powers and martial arts. Past that, it's just a matter of degree; Leatherhead and Dogpound are stronger than most other mutants just like Splinter and Shredder are more skilled than most other martial artists.

In that sense, April is the only one who's "special," and it's unfortunate for her that her special ability is somewhat the same as Venus's, but the difference in how they're handled is enormous.

haha seriously if she becomes Venus the resounding calls of "BETRAYAL!" from this place is going to be worth the new series existing. XD

oooh I just thought of a disturbing thought... if April was a Turtle... that would give Don EVEN MORE reason to pursue her... Never mind. Let's keep April and Venus as two seperate characters.

But that would defeat the purpose of Donny wanting to commit beastiality. I'm willing to bet if April did become Venus he'd lose all interest. He's probably only into human lolicons anyways. XD

You wouldn't hear any yelling since we'd probably be dead of heart attacks.

Actually making April a Turtle -- in this show, in this universe -- might be a neat, ballsy twist.

Just keep Donatello the hell away from her. Though super ballsy twist if it's either permament, or lasts half a season. Like after they rescue her father, she gets mutated, their new goal is to find a way to change April back. Bonus points if Splinter also wishes he could do the same.

Ballsy, yes--in a sense. Neat, debatable.

One big consistency I see to this franchise's divisive fanbase is that they're a finicky lot. First the Mirage fans are mad there's a cartoon dumbing down the universe, then that cartoon's fans are mad the next cartoon for having little in common with it, then that cartoon's fans get mad at the retools it got, etc, but beyond that, there are actually controversial moves that get a lot of people in different segments of the fandom united in hatred, like creating Venus, making Shredder an Utrom, making April a drawing, and most infamously as of late, making the Turtles aliens in the new movie. Nick's April already got substantial skepticism from being a teenager; doing something "ballsy" at this point probably isn't a good idea.

Yeah; a lot of complaints are overblown. Aside from the "teen April," I share the disdain for all the other twists I listed up there, but I think the objections to the Turtles having three toes were utterly ridiculous. Still, aside from being ballsy, what would making a April a turtle actually add to the plot of this series? My opinion, based on the past, is nothing really good. Since she could suddenly be more useful in a fight and conversely, not walk freely on the surface anymore, she'd just stay with the guys all the time and likely dominate most plots; I'm not saying she'd be as obnoxious as Venus or Cody, but why does there need to be a fifth (or sixth, if you count Splinter) teammate to dominate stories, when the given team dynamic already works fine in most situations?

April's been a mutant in the OT and Archie.

I dunno... it feels cliche for her to go to that again. It'd be a pleasant surprise for the new fans, but I'm not sure I'd be on board with that.

April should slowly morph into Don, and Don can slowly morph into April. Check and mate.

Doesn't matter. Nick shouldn't care about any of that. This is a different demographic and old fans are only [a fraction of] the frosting on the cake.

I wouldn't say that, Andrew. True the show is made for today's kids, but they make so many references and homages to the incarnations we grew up with. Why would they do that if we fans of the original comics and cartoon didn't care for this series?

Or, they made a Freaky Friday thanks to a McGuffin and exchanged bodies.

But that's a cartoon cliche too.

Nah even better idea. Make it so April dies but they're able to save her by putting her brain in the body of a sexy female robot turtle named Venus. Then have Don be still heavily into her.

It really will put a new spin on the phrase Don does machines.

Because the writers grew up with it. That's all.

Another eye-brow raising tidbit from a TVguide article.

"Mrs. Campbell [is] a research scientist from the World Wide Genome Project. Her character, who debuts in the Feb. 9 episode "The Alien Agenda," takes a particular interest in April O'Neil."
