Ooze has healing properties, and is a natural resource of Utrominon.

Mutagen was developed at Stockgen, with Ooze as the base component, and is responsible for mutation. (as far as we know!)

Yeah, we haven't spelled it out in the comic yet like that, but I don't think it's a spoiler... that's been the basis we're working from.
