I really liked it too. It had a similar OT humor. Those four bad guys crack me up in any language.

I kinda count the Toei animated first Season anime in a round about way. It does seem to have an anime-esque quality.

Like the others on this thread I consider the OVA great stuff. You could easily dubb them with the Fred Wolf cast and pass them as episodes. Sure there's a disconnect with muta stones and Kris Mu but its not a huge leap from some of the things that randomly popped in the OT.

Why not, the 2 episode Anime is still an Anime. Have it's own TMNT line of toys after it and it spinned a Manga.

If done right, it could be really good. Some anime can mix humor and darkness, imagine turtles V.S Shredder anime style?

The OVA is great, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be considered "anime", except if "anime" was incorrectly taken to mean "dark and edgy", which ain't true.

I realize this is what people mean when they ask for a TMNT anime, but it's a narrow view of anime.

In the same vein, I don't think season one of the OT was more anime than the rest. Sure, it was animated by a Japanese studio, but so were many other cartoons in the eighties, and singling out TMNT for this seems more a case of believing that "anime" means "more serious", when there are plenty of lighthearted and goofy anime---like the OVAs Otherwise, season one doesn't look, feel, or read like an anime at all.

Of couse, I don't think season one was all that "dark" anyway, so...carry on.

I'd rather have a far-out and wacky turtles anime with Japanese influence (like the original OVA) than a dark one. A dark anime would just be an animated comic, and though it'd be dope, I could just read a comic. A nutty comedy series with unrealistic violence and insane expressions would be hilarious.

The turtles can't be wacky and silly all the time, the 1987 cartoon already did that. It would be awesome to see a dark and gritty anime version of them since the elements are right there for it

I'd love to see an anime adaptation of the IDW comic, ethier done by Toei, Gonzo, or Gainax. Japan does a lot of good adaptation of mangas into anime, I think they could do the same with an american comic.

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

I dunna...I agree with Powder.

And besides, the name Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rings much more wacky than dark.

I'd like to see a mature one before a "dark" one, and by mature I mean dealing with the more philosophical and contemplative nature of some of the Mirage stories. I'd like to see an in-team conflict that is something other than "YEAH WELL I WOULD BE A BETTER LEADER LEONARDO". That, and I'd like to see Shadow actually get to be in anything other than just Mirage someday.

The Nick toon is already influenced by anime, which I don't particularly feel strongly about one way or the other. Personally, I really like American anime (or whatever descriptor has been bestowed upon it) in the style of the Avatar TLA or Korra. I think that would mesh beautifully.
