Fantastic Season Premiere!

Everything stepped up from last Season and it seems we are going to explore new and interesting dynamics within the show. Only problem I had is that they regressed Mike's character from a kind, wide-eyed goof that still knows when and what to throw down, to a complete inconsiderate idiot! There were also some pacing issues but overall, I'm so happy with the direction it's going in and I can't wait to see the rest of the episodes (I feel like a kid again) !

Few points:

-- Turtles VS. Biodroid was flippin AWESOME! Animation has really stepped up.
-- Loved the lesson of the episode: Not dwelling on the past, focusing on the future.
-- April's actions were completely justified and allowed for some much needed Drama between the Turtles and her.

Hats off to Brandon Auman - I now completely trust in his writing skills cause he just developed one of the most well-balanced and tightly woven Season Premieres I've seen in a long time. He turned from one of my least favourite writers, to one of my favourites!

Great set-up, can't wait for more (and the new Nick Turtles Game ) -- 8.8/10 for "The Mutation Situation"

Is it just me, or does Donnie have the most complex personality of the turtles? In this episode, the other ones remained in their good guy/angry/idiot archetypes. Only Donnie really showed any emotion or personality.

Oh, Mikey. When Timothy was mutated he acted the same way too which seems out of character. (Wasn't he tapping on Tim's container this episode, too?) I love Mikey, but I sincerely hope that we'll see the sympathetic side he showed to Leatherhead.
and that's ticking me off!! why is Donnie hogging all the development!!! UGGHHH

They better not keep doing this with Mikey........

but other than that nice episode

April being away from the turtles will be a great way to grow her character. The only issue I'll have is if she is how Casey is introduced to the group.

I'm hoping for a Semi-Turtles 2 vibe where Raph befriends Casey Jones and then he asks him if he would mind looking out for a friend of there's. That way we get that iconic Raph meets Casey moment and it could also play in Donatello being against the idea, since he sees Casey as a possible threat to his future with April.

I know its a long shot, but I think it would be a cool way for the story to go. Plus if you introduce and foster the Casey friendship with Raph it would be a good way to lighten up his character a bit while simultaneously giving him the crazy one who matches his enthusiasm for justice

Oh how nice...more angst, and with the Turtles greatest ally no less. I know the situation with her dad is a bit crazy, but to divorce herself from the guys who'd recently saved the world and her life several times is completly out-of-character and seemingly done entirely to more readily pair her with a bad influence in Casey, I don't know how she'll be "torn" between him and Don if she doesnt want anything to do with Don.

I don't know, it comes off more as a shock value twist. "Oh look, April hates the guys, we're SOOOO different from any other version ever", yeah, I'm just turned off the show more and more with stunts like this.

Reading some blogs, I think we (or rather me) forgot that April blaming everything on the turtles was a bit unfair. They did try to stop that from happening.

That ending…

I feel like Donnie and April just broke up even if they weren’t really together… ;___;
Just ****ing great, now Casey comes around at the worst time.
*lies in a puddle of tears*

AND THAT FREAKING KIRBY BAT.

I LIKED Kirby God damnit. All this time I was hoping it wasn’t going to be true that he’d turn into that ugly ass bat… I feel like the turtles were too careless, as soon as Leo said the ship was full of mutagen they really should have been more careful in case you know, IT SPILLED ON EVERYTHING.

My only reconciliation is that at least Donnie tried to stop it, but it doesn’t sit right with me that they are the ones that kind of caused Kirby to be a mutant… Oh and April MOVE OUT THE ****ING WAY MAYBE?? It’s not all THEIR fault you bitch. Okay I had to get that out of my system.

I just hope April makes up with the turtles again soon… Especially Donnie since she directed her anger at him mostly, ow my feels… IT JUST WASN’T FAIR.

I think it works though, it makes the story more interesting IMO.

Now it's not just Donnie finding a cure just for the hell of finding a cure. To give Donnie personal stakes and vendettas to help close friends makes the story better going forward.

Hasn't Mikey always been inconsiderate now and then?

I don't understand. Did anyone really enjoy the episode, or are they just telling themselves they did to not think about the negatives?

Donnie holds so many burden since the beginning....

He promised to rescue April's father (which they did at the end of Season 1).

He promised to train Timothy (which led him to having a responsibility of having a pupil).

He promised to cure Timothy back to human.

And now he promised to cure Kirby.

Donnie, why you do this to yourself?

I swear it was like 4 mins long! Or that could have had something to do with my eagerness to get on with the show.
There was a commercial that said next week is the Squirrelaniod ep.

I didn't think it was out of character. I think she had every reason to feel upset that her father was mutated and the people who she trusted were the cause. And when your upset you don't entirely think straight.

It would have been more out of character if she shrugged her shoulders and said "Hey, it's all good. After all it was just an accident right?"

It mean she knew that with the mutagen being released that something had gone wrong on the ship. And I hope when she calms down and actually begins to really process all that happened she will come to accept that they hadn't meant for that to happen and find it in her heart to forgive them.

April was just overcome with emotion. I mean she had been trying to get her father back for a year, and to have him suddenly ripped away again.. I can kind of understand her outburst. I'm sure she didn't mean what she said, she was just an exploding ball of emotion. I've felt the same way before.

Exactly. Even I'm mad for her. Not necessarily at the turtles, but just mad for her that she has to deal with her father getting mutated right after being reunited with him.

Donnie, why you do this to yourself?
With Timothy, Donnie said he'd restore his humanity one day. Because it would take years, maybe life times to find a cure for the Mutation.

But when he tries to promise April he wouldn't rest until he was able to return Kirby back to his human self. April may as well have told him to shut up and not promise the impossible in order to make her feel better. In most cases once a mutation happens, there is nothing that can be done about it.

I mean yeah there has been some cases were Donnie has found a cure to restore humans who have been mutated. But the circumstances were different in that regard.

While I probably don't envision precisly that happening, her understanding it was an accident would have been the mature thing to do, and very much in synch with the Aprils we know and appreciate.

I get it too. It's a very human thing to do when we're upset. Sometimes we tend to lash out at those closest to us during trying times. I have a feeling she'll deeply regret her harsh words later. I feel bad for poor Don though.

http://markandpaigerodriguez.blogspo...-mutation.html My thoughts on the episode... although our main gripe was..

Speaking of which... one thing that bothered us was when Kirby flew off. They know the city is now littered with Mutagen canisters, but 'April's father comes first'. Actually both are just as urgent.... so Paige asked out loud 'why didn't they just split up?' Then in the following scene they're back in the lair stressing out. What the hell? This show seems to have a problem with the Turtles not taking these kinds of situations with the urgency they require. Sure, the scene was important since it led to Splinter giving them advice... but why didn't Leo go home to consult Splinter while the other three Turtles kept looking for the bat while picking up any Mutagen canisters they can find. Or hell, why didn't Don come up with 'bats eat bugs' sooner while they were still outside? There was no reason for the Turtles to just drop everything and go to the lair other than 'this episode is about Kirby, the NEXT episode will be about random mutants'.

Anyone getting the feeling that the turtles aren't that mature yet? I thought Nieli said that they'd be. I feel bamboozled.

People don't mature that fast. Besides, they kinda can't, since their more teenage immature attitude is what makes them different from all the other versions.

I'm now nervous how the rest of the season is going to play out. How long can we take the turtles making stupid reckless decisions, and how long can we accept them from leaving the enemy behind?

Remember when people complained how season one - four was too much Leo on the 4Kids series? Now I'm starting to feel that way about Donnie on this series, bum bum bum.
