How Would You Adapt Rat King Into IDW/Nick?

Perhaps I am thinking too far ahead but I love that IDW is looking at the entire pantheon of characters figuring out which ones work best for thier version. With the latest character added to IDW's character roster we have begun already to wonder about who might be next up. Well,Rat King is a popular choice and is the next one a few of us want to see. Rat King's origin seems to be a problem to the point some think he is best not to have one. Personally, it always bothered me that Rat King never recieved an origin in the '87 cartoon which I think did the character best and made him prominent. That being said how would you incorporate the mysterious sewer dweller called The Rat King into IDW and what origin, if any would you give him that would fit with what Tom,Kevin, and gang are going for storyline-wise?

Nick cartoon has revealed Rat King as a mysterious character that has a scary look reminiceient of Scarecrow in the last season of Batman:The Animated Series. Also,Phantom of The Opera. I am not sure how a darker look would work in Nick's version. I am not sure how to speculate with Nick. Going by the design and tone what do you think?

As for IDW,I like the idea that he was a scientist who was fired and teased for his bizarre experiments and behavior. He retreated to the sewers where the only beings that did not shun him, rats perhaps saved him or offered him food or something along those lines. At that point he learned to befriend and control the rodent species. He may have had a woman he crushed on in his place of employement that he thought had pretty red hair that he mistakeningly calls fur and perhaps thinks April is a younger version of the woman who rebuffed him but no romantic tendencies towards her. The turtles stumble upon his plans to kill Chet with rat poison for making him the laughing stock of the science field and have to save the guy's sorry butt. That is my thoughts on how to incorporate Rat King into IDW. What about you? Origin or not neccessary? Any motives need altering or how to perfectly adapt Rat King into the story in about a year's time?

I was not sure to put this in comic or general or even Nick since I was curious on two fronts of possible portrayals.

It's probably not an issue as I don't think IDW will do much if anything set in Northampton but I'd set him in New Yorks sewers like the Fred Wolf show.

I'd make him extremely territorial about the part of the sewers that he views as his domain. He'd be sadistic in dealing with his enemies but while he'd have no love for surface dwellers he'd real quarrel with people who leave him alone.

I think it'd be cool if he had a very detailed inner narrative similar to what he had in the "I Monster" comic but when he speaks it's relatively simplistic.

I wouldn't give him an origin, leave it a complete mystery. At best give vague flashbacks and contradictory info to really play around that we know nothing of him or how he ended up living in the sewers and controlling rats.

I thought I would ask again and bump up this old thread, how do you see Rat King being best used in IDW if he were to appear within the next year?

Sociopath homeless person, I guess. Guy breaks out of a mental institution, spends 20 years in the sewer. I dunno. I like the idea of him being as insane as possible, while having book smarts and cunning intellect. Like, he recites Elizabethan poetry to his legion of rats, eats garbage, but tries to dress fancy using thrown out clothes and salvation army threads. A total sicko.

He should have some sort of expertise in chemistry before experiencing an accident that physically and mentally makes him feel inhuman, maybe even a military background to add to his persona as a fighter and skill with weapons such as grenades. He could even work for Shredder or someone else trying to get to Splinter which would explain his experimentation on rats.

Have we ever really been told what all the Stock-Gen psychotropic compound does?

Just sayin'.

It was explained when they explained how Splinter got his name. It was developed to separate a capacity for human cognition from the animal's primal instincts effectively "splintering" their brain. It seems it's been forgotten about because it's not explained how the Foot gets it to use in the creation of Alopex, a sore point with me because fhe Foot lose it when they break into the lab, and it's questionable how much of Splinter's blood/psychotropic serum Old Hob has. (He shown with a vial when he appears in front of Slash)

I second the liking of Powder's idea. I have to say I can see a lot of potential for how Old Hob could play off of Rat King's character (especially if Rat King was crazy and smart and had side monologues where he outwardly speaks his mind but acts as if no one can hear him). He would naturally be mistrustful of Old Hob but since there is a mutant alliance going, he might be drawn towards joining to keep his "subjects" and domain safe....? I could definitely see a lot of really neat possibilities. I hope they find a way to work him in!

I like the idea of him being former stockgen scientist Victor Falco, who gots just a little to attached to his lab rats. Add a little mutagen in to explain his rat control powers, and... violia!

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.
