By soft reboot I'm guessing that very important novels might be re-printed and considered canon? I don't know but counting everything will be canon with everything, even with a tighter control we'll have a pretty crazy universe like the one the EU has now, because that's just what time and stories do to a universe, makes it infinitely more and more complicated.

The quotes also imply that pretty much everything besides the movies is being thrown away too. The only reason why The Clone Wars might be considered is because the people making Rebels are the same team. But good bye old Clone Wars cartoon and good bye the Ewok movies and previous shows as well like Droids and Ewoks.
Reminds me of TRON. Before TRON: Legacy, there were video game and comic tie-ins to the original film. But the second movie came with a game, comics and TV show of its own, and they completely ignored and overwrote what came before, keeping only the original movie as canon.

How much of Dark Horse's income relied on the Star Wars license? Do you think they will still survive in the industry without it? What else do they publish besides Usagi Yojimbo?

But how much of their profits came from Star Wars? I imagine a sizable chunk.

Maybe 15%.

They survived before Star Wars, they'll survive after it.

Makes you wonder, though. With Star Wars at Disney... will things be opened up to projects like, "X-Men vs. Star Wars"? "Avengers/Star Wars"? Magneto vs. Darth Vader, etc..

No surprise there, but that cinches it -- the EU is out the window.

Awesome. Yeah he's been VERY active on twitter these past months, posting lots of photos etc. He must be totally ecstatic to be returning... again

Star Wars... the gift that keeps on giving. This guy pretty much made a nice living from playing ONE character who doesn't even have to say any lines

I think it's quite refreshing as it could be a Christmas gift for SW fans next year and originally Episode IV was gonna have a holiday 1976 release did you know that?

Anyone glad Lucas is hands off as he is leaving creative decisions to other creative people and better writers? i mean sure he is the creator and all that but ah damn he was a poor writer. I think this should be quite well written and nice to see the original cast back with new faces added.

And now that Lucas is gone, away and retired from his company wouldn't it be awesome to see Disney-Fox-Lucasfilm join together to release the original unmolested, untampered and unedited theatrical cuts of the classic films on blu-ray with quality restorations and all that in 2015.

More casting!

Apparantly when Karen Gillan cut off her hair for Guardians of the Galaxy she donated it. Her hair will now be in Episode 7. As what (maybe a baby Wookie or Ewok?) hasn't been revealed yet.

So yeah. The confirmed casting for the film is Chewbacca, R2D2 and Karen Gillan's hair.

Lucasfilm officially announced today that the EU is not canon and won't be the basis for the new movies. The press release did say that elements from the EU could be used.

The coolest part to me is that they've formed a story group that will work to keep all future work (which will be canon) connected. So all books and video games going forward will be canon.

Parts of the EU felt like poorly written fanfiction from some 15 year old manchildren. There are a few good arcs but the majority is trash.

In theory it's good that the new EU will be better handled and being able to take the "best" of the old EU and remaking it. However who will be able to re-write the Thrawn trilogy better or some great comics etc. Somethings can't be done better. I also feel this is a temporary solution, in 10 years the new EU will be as big of a convoluted mess as the current one is.
