The clothes are unnecessary, but don't find myself getting too bothered about it. It's such a miniscule thing.

the thing about the headbands is that was the way the turtles were introduced to an entire generation of kids. that's why they stuck. and it wasn't too big of a change up at that. this look will probably go down the same way any alteration to a classic costume does. it might stick around for awhile if it catches on but sooner or later it'll disappear and become an embarrassing thing people laugh about.

But not according to Mirage Raphael. (I did love that part where Mirage thought the colored masks were dumb, 2k3 Raph tried to deflect with the belt buckles. And at the end, Mirage Mike thought they were neat)

well the colored bandanas and the lettered belts were because the people who made the cartoon were worried kids would have trouble telling the turtles apart.

Like I said, I'm not too bothered about it. Ease of differentiation is always appreciated though.

Not to get off topic but the Transformers are NOT over complicated. The original G1 and most cartoon versions are over simplified for a live action movie. The more detailed and intracate transformations look and work great to portray them as an advanced robotic race from another planet.

As for the turtles, like I mentioned a better question would have been "What would you have picked as wardrobe?"

Just saying the traditional designs has worked all this time isn't even an argument because that's not point. The point is, how do some people (not everyone I know) find it so farfetched the turtles would wear some form of clothing for personal or fighting purposes?

I think its weird-er to think the turtles would be so against clothing. They do have individual personalities and they were influenced by humans to an extent through TV, books and Splinter.

They're not aliens that crashed here, who have zero understanding of earth.

You know with all the extra things their wearing, why not go to the Uni headband look? At this point telling them apart would be child's play. How could you not tell them apart? Especially if they kept all that stupid crap they have now, you'd have to be literally blind.

Seeing as real life turtles are slow to heal wounds, I'd say the protection pads makes sense, and doing a lot of physical martial arts, the tape wrapping makes sense in the versions that have that.

And seeing that the Ninja Turtles are often depicted to sweat, something real turtles don't. I'm sure it's once to have a mask or a bandanna to keep the area out of their eyes since the Turtles don't have eyebrows.

But they are by design "over complicated", they where given random bits and cogs to add for "realism". Personally I think Fall for Cybertron does a far more superior take on the TF designs and gives them an overhaul. They are intricate and detailed, but still not overly cluttered, and the majority of the name robots keeps their colors then just a handful of few.

And Frank Miller gave the Bat insignia on Batman's chest a reason to be there years later.

Superman's chest symbol was just a S, now it's a Kryptonian symbol for Peace.

This is HOLLYWOOD we're talkin' about here. Making a movie for kids for the purpose of making money and selling merchandise. Going into depth and really exploring their personalities isn't likely on the agenda. Don't develop the characters, just put them in a costume that visually makes it blatantly obvious what their personality is.

Again, I'm making this statement as a general attack on Hollywood, not even specific to the turtles in this movie.
I understand the skepticism.. But I calls it like I sees it. Hollywood has also made some great movies. It appears to me that some people " maybe not you " separate good movies that they like as if they didn't come from " Hollywood ". Hollywood has gotten it right many times. The Avengers came from Hollywood..Marvel movies come from Hollywood..

I cant see how you can just dismiss the that possibility.. I'm just not seeing any evidence to support that..It is a fact that Liebesman spent many hours in a room with Eastman pumped about making a true TMNT film and learning about the characters. I don't think I am deluding myself when taking the words of actors and directors and producers along with my own opinions of what I see. When looking at the set pics and reading all of the interviews it is reasonable to think that they are building a richer deeper story. It is reasonable to think that this film will delve deeper into the mythology of TMNT. I hope we get more than a little 15 minute flash back. Imo.. Just bc this movie is being made in Hollywood doesn't mean that there aren't people working on the film that feel very passionately about TMNT. I don't understand why just bc people make it in the film business and move to Hollywood somehow means that all of their respect and passion for material gets sucked right out of them. This notion that if your a big Hollywood director you automatically have absolutely no intention of learning about the characters, learning what makes them tick.. why they act a certain way, why they do the things they do and say the things they say. I'm sure there are some that could care less. Again I know you didn't say this and I'm not trying to put words in your mouth but I've read it many times here.. Imo it is not fair to lump every Hollywood director into a group of soulless money hungry scam artists out to make a quick buck just bc they've made it to Hollywood.. .. To a certain point I actually agree with you.. I just don't agree with the generalization. There are some really great directors in Hollywood. I'm just trying to defend my views and opinions.. I'm trying to say that it is not unreasonable to think that these are real possibilities. I understand that kids are one demographic here.. but it is obvious that this movie wont be solely geared towards children. It seems to have a very serious tone to it.. a more darker, gritty tone. I think they know that most of the fans are not kids. I think they know that they cant scoot by on another kiddie movie. Look what happened to the first trilogy. The more " kiddie" it got the worst it did. But i think they have every intention of telling this story in a more in depth way.

Behind every good Holywood movie stands either a fan or a good director, we have none of those things here...

Honestly, I think I might be in the minority but I prefer it when the differences in the turtles' appearances are subtle; mask colours, skin tones, slightly different [but not cartoonishly exaggerated] body types, and maybe differing eye colours.

They don't need any more than that, otherwise to me, it comes across as trying way too hard to make each one different when they don't need to be. Their personalities do that enough.

Here, here. Nick set the presitent for that and is seaping in every incarnation and really annoys me...

You may actually be in the majority.. I just appreciate how they seem to be elaborating on the whole " teenagers " thing. And when I think teenagers I think eccentric, potent personalities with a need to express themselves through accessories and clothes etc.. I guess its a preference thing. I'm just glad that they are taking this approach. If a grown up ever told me to " tone it down " with my clothes in High school I'd tellem to take a walk lol.

and the point of those pictures were? The movie designs are not even close to being that over the top. Those look like futuristic superheroes.

I was gonna say I agreed with Puddinpop about the Hollywood thing. I mentioned this to someone here awhile back...its funny that everyone complains about Hollywood being money hungry big shots...but if said movie actually looks good and turns out to be good none of that Hollywood is evil talk is brought up.

You can't conveniently pick and choose when Hollywood does and doesn't care.

That is the one of the main reasons I like the nick tmnt, they each look different physically and act different. Also I think the Nick turtles act more like teens in the newer show.

I was never quite this way when I was teenager. I got clothes from garage sales and places with nice clothing sales, but nothing I hunted for that strongly. I wore a big jean jacket most of the time. I was a card game player and liked hanging out with friends while I also drew as well, that was how I expressed myself. One kid even said one of drawings looked better than how I dressed. I usually had some jeans and a shirt. Expressing myself was never in the clothing. The best clothing was always expensive and unaffordable to me.

Personally I find a lot of similar problems with Jim Lee's designs and the PD designs. And not only in the clothing department, but also in the body deign. Not just the faces, but the body, especially the torso.

Mm, nope.

Nick cartoonishly exaggerates the varying body types too much. When I said "varying body types", I was thinking of the first film. Nick is trying too hard.
