The movie is NOT going to tank. Even if it doesn't do as well as the other summer blockbusters, it's still going to make huge money both in America and overseas.

What do you consider to be huge money?

That's the Michael Bay method. Grab the rights to something the 20/30-somethings have nostalgia for, make "Explosions: The Movie" for the 78th time, cash in.

And if the bar hadn't been raised on this sort of thing so much by the Marvel movies, maybe a lot of us wouldn't be so cynical about it. Because there's a way to truly honour the characters and source material while also making a truly great action movie. You can satisfy the fans and the casual audience at the same time - it just takes a lot more thought and care than it seems like the people making this movie could be bothered to put into it.

Exactly. The reason the Marvel films have been great so far is that the people running them are comic book fans. They actually like the characters, the story, and the lore. Missteps like Iron Man 3 stem from non-comic-book lovers trying to make these films. They can't.

I doubt Michael Bay or Jon Liebesman ever cared about the TMNT. I bet they didn't even know it started as a comic book rather than an 80's cartoon. They don't care about the property, and just want to make another explosions movie that stupid twelve-year-olds will go and watch. That became clear when some quick and easy sex appeal was shoved in (aka Megan Fox). Fox may be a turtles fan, as someone will no doubt point out to me, but the people running the film likely are not.

I might be alone on this opinion, but I'm puzzled. I'm still going to see the movie, but the lack of effort put into promoting this movie makes it seem as if Paramount has little to no faith in the project. Now granted, this is just MY opinion and Paramount could just be waiting for Transformers 4 to be released, but I still get the feeling that the studio knows that they may have a stinker on their hands and are ashamed of the product.

It's annoying. It makes me afraid the movie won't do well. There actually is a chance that terrible looking Step It Up: All In movie might beat it because Step Up, sadly, has a fanbase that is loyal, and half of the TMNT fanbase doesn't even wanna see this movie for some reason.

you know though... I have seen more for TMNT than I have seen for the new Planet of the Apes... and that is coming out sooner, and something I thought was going to be real big.. I am seeing a lot of Turtles stuff now, seen ad for merch in a Marvel comic last week (which I found surprising), finally seeing the toys, posters, and Crush sodas at the stores.

I think the only reason we care so much is because we want to know everything about it because we are scared it's gonna be really bad, but honestly I'd rather know too little than too much before seeing it. On top of not being very good, The Amazing Spiderman 2 was completely ruined by too much marketing, I literally saw every single spiderman part months before seeing it, and even if I end up hating the new Turtles movie, I'd much rather at least be surprised by what I see, good or bad.

We've seen the characters, in toys and in action.. chill out and wait for the movie dudes.

...Also I have a pretty good feeling that people are going to want them to stop the heavy promotion as soon as Transformers comes out this week.....

Apes actually has a comparable budget of $120 million, but I haven't heard anyone weeping about their marketing, or comparing it to the biggest movie machine on the planet...

Honestly it started to bug me but now with July being the full tmnt blowout It just gets me more and more excited like really excited this is pretty rare when it come to most summer blockbusters this happened with Transformers 2007 remember they had teasers and cars on set then as we got closer and closer to the films release they started amping up it's debut same with this film and you know what it was well worth it so idk maybe the lack of things being shown is a good thing means they care they want to take their time make sure everything is perfect

That's odd...I've seen quite a few commercials on tv for the new Apes movie but I haven't seen a single commercial for TMNT. If not for the internet I wouldn't have seen a single trailer for it.

Ha! They're taking their time, all right.

No, anyone who is interested in promoting their movie would be doing a lot more. If the studio wanted to make sure everything was "perfect" they would have started showing ads for the film a looong time ago.

But why know one had any faith in the project to begin with so why go through all that just for a plethora of negative responses?

If they dont have faith in the product then they wouldn't have soon to be 4 trailers at all they wouldn't have featured it in a tmnt book, they wouldn't have art work and posters and stand-ies in move theaters, they would have the trailers during NBA finals or on nick, they would have the most expensive batch of TMNT lego sets be exclusively movie based

Faulty logic, though, my dude. They're obligated to try and recoup their investment whether their internal feelings about the movie are positive or negative.

By every single account, WB knew that Green Lantern was going to be a spectacular failure months before it was released (and I actually don't hate that movie). They still went all-in on in it, with a Super Bowl spot, lots of toys, etc. etc. Because hope. Even if a studio makes a movie that they know is likely going to be bad, it's their job to push it, cross-market it, and eventually, make back twice the money they spent on it, even if it takes twenty years to do so.

And again, before anyone jumps in accusing me of saying things I'm not saying: All I mean is, the studio would pimp the movie even IF it sucks, because it's their job. It doesn't mean the movie IS bad. It means that even if it causes Super-Ass-Cancer in everyone who watches it, the studio will stand behind it. Saying "If they thought it was bad they wouldn't have this and that for it" just isn't true.

Yeah, pretty much the same. I saw the TMNT trailer in the theatre once (funny enough, the sound went out), but I've seen the Apes trailer and ads for that movie several times.

Precisely. If they didn't advertise due to low quality, then we'd never see another Adam Sandler trailer again.

When Transformers: Age of Extinction is released, the heavy marketing for TMNT will most likely begin. That's probably what happened with G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released.

We don't know what the box office numbers will be like until we get close to opening weekend.
