I don't care about that line either, not because it is sexist , I just don't find it funny. I'm sure they can make a better boner joke than that, let's see how they can improve that in the sequel.
I'm indifferent to how Donnie acts around April in the new toon, but I was raising my eyebrows when the girls were stuck in certain situations on the show. April getting her butt rubbed by a worm and thinking it's Casey, April tied up in a peculiar position with her ass up against the screen. Not so much sexism, more like objectification.

In the movie, so far, it seems like it's just crude toilet humor, and April is being more exploited then anything. But, I would have to see this movie in it's entirety, because for all we know, maybe the Turtles treat Vernon the same way.

Well then the question is why do the Foot have guns?

I know there is some precedence for it but not as a standard weapon. Why is the Foot now a military unit? It's a needless change that was the result of other needless changes that facilitates other needless changes.

Even putting that aside how does someone like Spider-Man avoid bullets or Batman? They're supposed be fast and agile. Making them super strong with invulnerable shell removes means all the action has to be over the top and that kind of stuff doesn't really suit TMNT.
I think for the most part, I usually agree with you, but just want clarification on what you are asking here...

So let me get this straight, a 1 minute trailer that includes 1 or 2 seconds of "toilet humor" (I'm not even aware of any kind of toilet humor in the trailers and I've been watching them all over and over) or "April's hot" joke and now people are concerned the whole movie will be taken hostage by this type of content?

You have got to be kidding me. The majority of footage out there doesn't have this content a lot of you are "worried" about, it's mostly the Turtles having a blast, cracking jokes and fighting...

Also, all the reviews of the 12 min footage, they talk about the shell tightening joke as being out of place. That is the only one they mention. No other one at all. A fart joke could be amazing if it is done correct. Step brothers anyone? This movie is also taking place in 2014, so of course we are going to get more explicit content. This movie is aimed at teens, not children. That is why it is rated PG-13. So sure we are going to get some pop culture humor. But IGN has said the humor in the 12 min footage is Smart. I kinda trust that statement. Im with you, some toilet humor will be present, and it wont kill this movie.

I'll admit it: I have a soft spot for Bay humor, and that shell tightening joke made me chortle just reading about it.

The gun shell thing? There; I really do have to join the anti crowd. My guess is they did that just so they can force guns in, but it then requires them establishing just how much the Turtles can withstand; otherwise there is absolutely no point to martial arts.

I'm with you. People are entirely concerned with the wrong things in films in general, and yes, I'm far more comfortable with sex scenes, or innuendos in a film over glorified violence.

And Megan Fox does take far too much flak.

That said, everyone has their favorite incarnation of the turtles, or April or whomever, and so far, this film is entirely it's own beast. Some love it, some hate it, but most will likely buy tickets, and have something to say.

A turtle making a boner joke? Not a huge deal, other than it seems really out of character. Sure he's the mello one, some times funny, some times crazy, but he's usually cool, good natured. Not creepy. Here, he's acting creepy.

Prudes suck, sure, but creepy isn't cool.

I am pretty sure I remember a turtle saying "Schwing!" and thrusting his pelvis around April at least once in the original movies. Maybe it was just in the third, but I think not. If those films get forgiven for crass, creepy sexual talk--that can't even be called joke--directly to April's face, there's no reason a boner reference that at least tries to tie into turtle anatomy humorously, being made only to his brothers, should be a problem. It's not a joke everyone will like, but it shouldn't ruin the movie for anyone.

As to Fox, while I was never on board with the crowd that called her the sexiest women ever, and it certainly doesn't justify her superstar status, I have to admit she looks very pleasant when she smiles wide. I believe her when she says she's a huge fan of the turtles, and she never comes off as basking in the fame of the moment; just genuinely happy to be part of it. It's actually kind of sad that her involvement was in a movie that people are very critical of; in a role she quite possibly can't play. She doesn't get the warm reception it seems that Nieli and Cipes get when they declare that they were big fans, because they aren't Fox and aren't in a controversial adaptation. I kind of want her to get involved in the series as an artist, which I'm told she's much better at.

That was in the third movie, after April cut her outfit shorter to show more of her legs. (And incidentally, that's also the TMNT movie that most people hate.)

It wasn't "those films" so much as it was "that one movie", but sure. From the first two movies, I don't recall anything more than Casey and the Turtles calling April a "babe" or a "fox" a few times (and when Casey went overboard with the pet names she called him on it, which I love) and Mikey trying to charm her with his bad impressions. Pretty cute and innocent by comparison.

And besides, some people are sensitive to, or have a problem with, the really forward/creepy comments and moments that objectify women. And that's perfectly valid. If it ruins the movie for them, then it does, and that's fair. There's no reason the writers had to include those things in a TMNT movie, and if does turn off some potential viewers, well, that's just the risk they took.

I like how your southern accent 'jokes' are just minstrel show type stuff or Madea.

Nice.

No, that's literally how Leonardo sounds. There's no jokes involved there. And it sounds completely off for his character.

1. They were raised underground and did not interact with other New Yorkers, they get their accents from watching TV, that's why Mikey always hasn't had a NY accent. Leo is always more serious almost Splinter-like. Raph is the only one who gets close to the NY accent because he actually sneaks out into NYC. Donnie get's his accent from TV or now we can assume youtube and other internet videos. I was concerned with Johnny Knoxville being Leo's voice, but from what I've heard he sounds fine.

2. The "sexual" humor complaints. You're just grasping at straws here, teenagers who have grown up watching only tv, and now this version has the internet, that would be a part of their humor. To say the shell tightening line is too much, then go into discussions of turtle boners, you might have some sort of sexual hangups you need to look at. It's a MOVIE. Mikey and April are not going to have sex, he's a young kid who thinks she's hot. In the 90's movie he calls her a babe. In the new cartoon Donnie is in love with April. They are throw away lines, that most movie goer's are going to laugh at and not be offended by or upset at, because there are a LOT worse things going on in movies now, this is really NOTHING you should be upset about, it's not like the whole movie you're going to be thinking of Mikey's turtle boner...or maybe you will, but that's your problem.

3. Bulletproof shells...this is one I had to really think about. Out of context it sounds bad, because they're making a major change to what we know. BUT, the foot soldiers all have guns, it would be ridiculous to think the whole movie the turtles would avoid all the bullets. This iteration of the turtles has them being created as weapons, so bulletproof shells sounds like something they could have been working on perfecting. Now, I am interested to see how they handle the Shredder fight, because if their shells are bulletproof, why not just let Shredder shoot all his blades and just block them w/ their shells? I'll just have to see for myself in 2 weeks.

Lastly, I have been waiting for his movie for forever. I was worried at first, but the more that's being released the more it looks like it's going to be great, and I can only hope they make more and more of them. Can't get enough TMNT, in all the different versions we've had all our lives.
You should post more often.

I agree with you 100%.

The turtles have always thought April was attractive, and it does not at all seem out of place for Mikey to make such comments. He's a teenager that's encountered little to no actual women in his life, of course he's going to like her and Mikey being the funny one is of course going to make joke like that. Like you said, it's a joke that most people will laugh at, then go on enjoying the movie. It's really not a thing that should ruin the entire movie, if it's not your type of humor then just move on and enjoy the rest of the movie

@ElectricN - Thanks!

About the guns, I don't like it one bit, but it makes sense. If a terrorist organization (that's what the foot is) tried to take over a city, they would need guns at the very least. So this makes sense to me. Again, I don't like it though, but maybe that's the reason why they're bullet proof, to explain why they're not dead in 5 seconds after the Foot shoot them.

once again, completely agree.

while yeah im not a fan of the foot using guns, especially karai, its the most logical foot clan there is to be taking over new york. and if theyre using guns, im all for the turtles shells being bullet proof, way more believable than them dodging almost every bullet fired in this movie. still on the fence about the plastrons though, not because of them actually being bulletproof, just that it does make them quite a bit less vulnerable.

Well characters like Spider-Man and Batman are shown being able to dodge or outrun being fired at and that's because they are shown to be fast and agile. For Spidey it's his Spider powers that allow that, for Bats it's the conceit that he can react that fast.

I'd say TMNT is very much the same. We've seen them dodge laser and gunfire because of their stealth and martial arts skills. They are not faster than bullets but they are faster than the people firing them.

There's also the standard conceit that antogonists conveniently have poor aim. It'd be pretty novel if the turtles ever did take a bullet but in this version it wouldn't matter, they'd flex thst part of their body and shoot it back out.

Batman in the movies has notoriously worn bulletproof attire, as for Spider-Man he's a bit different than the Turtles, he's very thin and he might be way faster than the Turtles, also he has spidey sense.

The scene in the trailer where they discover they're bulletproof seems to be later in the movie, and I don't think their skin is bulletproof, so there may be plenty of bullet dodging in the film.

I hope there are sequels, and it leads to the foot to become a more silent threat to the city since the bullets won't work, and Shredder or whoever forces them to start using hand to hand combat to fight the Turtles. Or creates more mutants ie. Bebop, Rocksteady etc...

The shells being bullet proof I don't mind. I mean, these were supposed to be genetically engineered weapons so there has to be something super powered about them. I can even buy the plastrons being bullet proof, but if there's honestly a scene with Raph flexing bullets out of his body and shooting them, that might be taking things a little too far.

I really don't know what Johnny Knoxville you've heard speaking that you think he sounds like a cartoonish southern black woman.

Again though, why is it so 'off' for his character? Southerners can't be leaders?

dont mean to get in the middle of this whole arguement, but a southern accent isnt appropriate for Leo, or ANY of the turtles, because they are from New York, and native NY'ers themselves have very distinct vocal patterns, etc. Having lived in NY for most of my life, I can tell you that the southern accent is only found in NY'ers who moved to the city after spending a majority of their life elsewhere, natives they are not.
