Secondly just because they're genetically engineered doesn't mean their perfect, and again, they're not raised by the scientists so as Donnie grows up how would they fix him? They wouldn't know he's visually impaired when he's a little turtle.

Everyone saying this isn't the turtles "we" know....There have been a dozen different types of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stores so this movie is going to create it's own TMNT story like all the other ones, with some borrowing from the past.
The turtles have super strength and bulletproof shells. I think it qualifies as super soldiers, especially when it's explicitly stated in the trailers by Knoxville that they were created as weapons. Training in Ninjitsu doesn't make sense when they're powered like they are.

If you're genetically engineering creatures to be weapons, I think you would consider improving something like eyesight whether or not there's a deficiency. The design contradicts their own set up. Donnie needing glasses would make sense if the Turtles mutation was accidental.

The issue is that the turtles have never been superheroes with super abilities before. It makes the ninja aspect of the franchise pointless. It's not TMNT, but something else dressed as TMNT.

2. Spider-Man is not trained, it all comes from being bitten by a radioactive spider.

3. I do not think this is overkill. I have wanted an adult take on the Turtles for a very long time. I LOVE the 90's movie. It is dark and serious, and fun at the same time. I want that but more. I have Leo tattooed on my leg, and he's got blood dripping off his swords. When I was a kid, I wanted the turtles we had, I'm an an adult now, I want an adult TMNT, because to me they have the foundation to be the most entertaining super heroes.

I watch and love the Nick version of TMNT. To me it's childish but adult enough at the same time. In my opinion it's the best version of TMNT we've ever had. I keep saying this, OUR turtles have had MANY different versions, and this will just be another.

At first I hated everything about it, I hated Megan Fox being cast, I hated the "white shredder". I hated the Alien Turtle idea. When I saw the turtles for the first time, I was so sad. I watched the first trailer, and thought, good god this is terrible. Knoxville as Leo? No this can't be!

Then every single trailer since the 1st one has made it more and more clear this will be a fun action packed movie, and we will see the turtles do things in live action that we've NEVER seen them do before. I cannot wait.

I don't understand why people can't allow movies to create their own path. Comic books change the histories all the time, but if a movie does it, it's the ruining it. It's very silly.
This very clearly isn't an adult take on the TMNT. I would say the first film will be a far more adult take on the TMNT that were likely going to get going forward in movies. It's sad that we're talking about a film that's nearly 25 years old when comic book movies have matured greatly in that time.

Even if Pete's performance was bad, Knoxville was still an odd choice as opposed to somebody who already sounds like Leo. Just listening to Pete's voice in interviews already sounds better. Right off the cuff, I would think to hire somebody like Chris Evans to play the role.

From what I've heard so far, it doesn't sound like Knoxville is pulling a Heath Ledger or anything. It's not like I'm basing this on the choice to hire Knoxville alone, even though that was a big WTF moment when I first heard about it, I was still willing to give it a chance. But so far he isn't exactly winning me over and he's basically doing what I feared he would do.

I'm hoping to hear some more from Leo before the release so I can make up my mind before finally seeing the movie. Maybe there will be another trailer soon featuring more of Knoxville's performance?

Do you understand that Splinter trained them? They at some point escape from the lab, and are trained by Splinter, who doesn't have paramilitary training. So where would they get this training?

Obviously Splinter knows where they come from in this version, that's how they know what they are.

Also, their mutagen is not going to be perfected right out of the gate, there will be some issues, and again they ESCAPE the lab, so they wouldn't ever have the opportunity to "fix" his eyes.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have never had super hero abilities before? What TMNT have you been reading or watching?

I heard Pete on the Nick special, and he sounded ok. His performance must have been really bad though. I felt the same exact why you did when I read Knoxville had been cast, and I love Knoxville, just not for this. They might still be recording his lines so that's probably why we haven't heard him much in the trailers. I was going to see this regardless of how bad I thought it was going to be, so I don't think holding out because of one voice actor is a legit reason...if you love TMNT you'll go and support it.

Which is still recent when you take into account his decades long history when we're supposed to think he's wearing a cloth costume not to mention more modern depictions like the very popular DCAU

I don't know what point you're trying to make. The fact is he got injuries, there was dramatic tension when he was shot and stabbed - that can't happen with the turtles in this movie because they are virtually indestructable.

Which gives him speed to dodge bullets. Seems like the turtles are speedy in this version too not that they need it.

You think this is an "adult" take?

Seriously? Surely the idea that the turtles are bigger doesn't make this adult. Being in bright shiny clothes that should be all rights make it impossible to be stealthy ninjas (as should their massive bulk) strikes me as ultra juvenile.

The action looks like something that even the most juvenile cartoons wouldn't try with Don's super strong magic pogo stick and Leo bouncing off cars all the while making unfunny toilet humor jokes. Nothing about that is dark or serious to me.

Nor is it supposed to be. We've had it confirmed several, not just by people who have seen footage but the makers of the movie itself that this is a childrens movie. Leibesman has even said It's not a dark or serious take or a more balanced take like the Marvel movies. He considers the TMNT too stupid for that. If you think what we're getting "adult" or "dark" or "serious" in any way then I'd say your misinterpreting this movie.

A move shouldn't be just another take though. It should be the definitive take, taking the best parts of the franchise and presenting them to a wider audience.

I like Superman: Red Son. It's a great reimagining of Superman but does anyone want to see a movie of Superman as a defender of the Soviet Union?

We've never seen the turtles tap dancing either. Just because we've never seen the turtles doing something doesn't mean they should and there are better avenues to explore that than a movie especiallynata time that the franchise is peaking, Sure years we ma get a really good and faithful movie but too late to ever dispel the notion TMNT is just mindless crap for kids.

DC does. That's about it and even then the basics are kept the same. They didn't change Superman to a goverment experiment, or Batman to a fallen angel or reimagine Aquaman as roided up guy with a sharks head.

You're right. I will probably see it regardless, but that's not to say it won't taint my experience. My biggest fear is that it will be a great TMNT movie except for that one grating thing: Leo's voice being off the entire time. There's nothing like one small decision that can ruin an otherwise great movie. It's very infuriating. My hope is that they are still recording and tweaking his lines and that the ones in the trailer aren't necessarily what we will be hearing in the movie. But it is pretty close to the release date now.

Also, Pete's physical performance looks spot on. I have a hard time believing his vocals were that bad.

This is the only film in this iteration of the film series. The notion that someone sounds like Leonardo is kind of silly.

Also, Knoxville is a notable name. He alone isn't a huge box office draw, but there are people that will see the film at some point due to the attraction.

It's the only film iteration, but it's also based on an already established property. All of the other voices sound pretty much the way they should as translated from past iterations. You can dress up the movie however you want, the important thing is that the character's personalities shine through. And it's hard for me to make an unbiased opinion, but looking at this version of Leo and the way he acts, that voice coming out of him is not at all how I'd imagine he would sound.

I don't know of anybody who is going to see this because Knoxville is in it. I also don't know of anybody who thought he was a good choice. If anything, it turned off more people than it did reel them in.

It's because your speaking to a small segment of the TMNT fan base. Going by Technodrome forum reactions don't even account for a single percent of the audience this film is going for.

Leonardo has not sounded the same in numerous iterations. I think you may be confusing voice with demeanor.

@Galactus

I was just stating I want an adult take. I want an R rated TMNT movie. I wasn't saying that's what this is. I knew this wasn't an adult take the second I saw the Turtle Van.

This current one is pg-13, it's not exactly a children's movie.

"Donnie's super strong magic pogo stick"

It would be lazy for them to have the one who builds the Turtle Van only using a wooden stick as a weapon.

A movie version of a comic or cartoon, should not just take from source material. It is a new avenue of entertainment. If the cartoons don't have to pull directly from the comics, then why should the movies have to pull every single scene and action? I want a new take, I want to be surprised and be shown a different version of what I already know.

When I said we get to see them doing things we've never seen before, I said in a live action movie. We get to see them leaping all over the place in the cartoons and comics but never in a live action movie. We get to see some crazy action scenes now. Why is this a bad thing? They are mutant turtles, this is hardly set in any form of reality. They can bend logic because this plot, these heroes can never be in real life.

Seems like a pretty big assumption, as well as pretty insulting to the actor who was replaced. It could have been a simple matter of them wanting some "brand synergy" since Knoxville recently signed a deal with Paramount, and would (in theory) draw more attention in the cast.

Who said I'm only going by Technodrome reactions? I'm going by Collider, RT Forums, people I know, etc. Pretty much every media source I've looked at.

I realize he doesn't always sound the same, but usually the essence of his character is there or it's least not so far out of left field that it doesn't sound at all like him.

You're still referring to internet related outlets. It's not a great mindset to settle on when you're talking about overall box office numbers and minor complaints.

I haven't heard much of either of the voices from this film. I'm just referring to the character historically. People have different sounding voices.

By those standards, anything ruining a movie is "perfectly valid." With the only judge being the sheer amount of pissy, nitpicky people in any fanbase, I can't exactly quantifiably disagree, but it still seems incredibly stupid to me.

Yup! That's just how humanity works. Everyone has their own experiences and tastes and preferences and personal beliefs that'll inform what they'll enjoy or feel inclined to try. And those things are perfectly valid to that particular individual, even if they may not be to you.

And likewise for all sorts of comments, including this kind.

Of course, once it's out it runs the risk of the presently overly excited people making comments on their final opinion that includes some cons alongside the pros. Kind of reasonable to think that no movie can go without a few down sides.. not really a sin to do so.
