I've enjoyed all four movies we've had because I'm a fan and can appreciate certain aspects of those movies that others don't. However if I'm objectively it's actually shocking that we're on the fifth movie when there's only ever been one good one (the first).
They will not make any money on a gritty R rated or hard PG-13 movie. Complaining parents ruined that for all of us who are mentally mature enough to handle adult content.

After the first movie, parents complained it was too dark for their children. I used to actually like the 2nd one until I found out they made the 2nd one w/ almost no fighting, un-killed Shredder (only to re-kill him...) and I can't even stomach to watch it anymore. This is what will always kill our hopes for a hard TMNT.

TMNT as a movie property should have disappeared long ago however by some minor miracle they are making them. This time I feel we're at critical juncture with the franchise here. It isn't turtlemania part II by any stretch but the franchise is at a peak of interest that it hasn't been for a long time and probably will never be again; they had an opportunity here to make something truly special, aim for what the best comic book movies are doing well but they've instead made something for the lowest common denominator.
The miracle is that Nick bought the rights. They made a cartoon that is appealing to the new youth, and the original fans. It actually is Turtlemania part II. TMNT is a very popular costume for halloween, and Nickelodeon made $475 million on TMNT toys last year.

DC took Superman and made him "dark" and they were semi successful. I loved the movie, but it got destroyed by critics and fans. They said it was too dark. He never smiled, he let everyone die...etc... the sad thing is, there is a very small audience for intense comic book movies. That's why Deadpool has never, and maybe will never get made.

Quote:
If this movie doesn't meet expectations of Paramount (and there's more than outside chance of that happening) then I don't think we should take for granted the franchises luck getting movies green or that their response would be that there wasn't enough dick and fart jokes and go along those lines.
I have a bad feeling it won't make a lot of money, based off the looks of them alone. It took me weeks, actually still trying to find things I like about the way they look right now. Also, the overuse of Michael Bay's name might backfire...it's really cool to hate him right now.

Quote:
Even if we do one day get a really good movie I'd say the window would have passed for it ever really catch on in the way it would now and that's sad to me.
Well if we got a really good gritty realistic movie, it wouldn't make a lot. I think the majority of people want fun turtles. The only way to get what we want is to hope the movie fails, and in 10 years someone will buy the rights for cheap, and make a low budget movie the way they want.

I don't think it would even cross their minds to animate Donatello with a super strong advanced staff because that's not the weapon he is supposed to have.

Come to think of it Fast Foward Don had a retractable staff that along with the other turtles future weapons could do some interesting things and 4kids had no problem animating that. Of course that season was set in the future were you would expect them to have technology based weapons. In the present it's always portrayed they are all better off with their basic weapons.
That is my point, they weren't thinking of that stuff back then. I don't see why it's a problem to advance their weapons? In the day in age we live in, w/ Call of Duty and Halo being so popular and based off advanced weapons, it makes sense that they have a super inventor genius make his weapon do some tricks.

That is strong enough to flip trucks and steel containers yet small enough to fit in his fist. It is VERY far fetched.
Yes it's way more far fetched than 4 mutated turtles trained to be ninja's by a rat.

Quote:
There was technology in 1983, 1987, 2003 and 2012 but no one ever saw fit to load Don with so much stuff. If he carried it with him it was in an equally basic backpack.
This line of thinking is something I'm strongly against, you're being nit picky about his bo. This is not a huge change, somethings you just have to accept, I talked about how Fox ruined Deadpool in an older post, those are the types of changes I would say warrant valid non nit picky complaints.
Quote:

Also isn't the main feature of most modern technology that it's small. Why is it so freakin' huge and all over his body? Let's not pontificate on this, it's all just for show...and watching cat videos.
Not when he's presumably getting these parts from the sewer and junk yards. He's using what he can find.

Being created in a lab isn't necessarily a drastic change but that's one thing.

Add it in to the idea that they are drastically redesigned and super strong, add to it that they are now bullet proof, add to it any number of twists to the Shredder story we're being teased with. One or two or two changes if they are genuinely well thought out (and most of these are to validate that leaked turtles-as-aliens script) but how many changes do we make it's no longer the true to the original idea?
Ok, so the Shredder story, is all based off rumors or ideas people have. Gonna wait until I see what they actually did before deciding if I like it or not. I have no problem with mutated turtles having increased strength. Whether they were created on purpose or by accident the mutagen was going to change them, who cares if they're stronger? I don't like the bulletproof skin. So when it comes down to it, The major changes we know about are:

Donnie's bo
The design of the turtles is a new look
They were purposefully created instead of an accident
They wear clothes (really don't see the problem here)
They're bulletproof
They're stronger

The Shredder story is unknown, I'm not taking rumors as fact. Are those really big enough changes to claim it's being ruined? I don't think so, that's been my argument the whole time.

Quote:
Laird was being sarcastic and even didn't a followup on his blog on the nature of sarcasm. He certainly does not think it's a "genius idea" to have a planet of turtles.

Eastman didn't say that at comic con. His point was that to his opinion (or the one he's currently choosing to publicly voice) he doesn't see it being much of difference in principal if the were the product of an alien substance to them being actual aliens. I think most if us disagree.
About Laird's quote, I read it in passing, so regardless of his intent, that was the thing I didn't like about them being Aliens. If they went ahead with it, I was open to seeing what they did.

About Eastman...he was asked about them being aliens, and he responded with what you said. I haven't heard any other take on them being alien, so I'll just take his explanation as what they were going to do.

That list seems like a lot of pretty big things. You can't generalize them to a few words as that misses the nuance that people, myself included, have brought up. The turtles being bulletproof and super strong fundamentally changes who the characters are. (We can probably super fast as Donnie is seen deflecting bullets with his bo) It also requires even more changes to the threats they face, namely the laughably ridiculous Mecha-Shredder.

Thise two things also undermine other decisions they've made. I've mentioned this before, but the turtles being genetically engineered and the scientists not taking care of Donnie's vision issues. Nevermind, the fact that their newfound abilities makes it pointless to learn ninjitsu in the first place. Nobody would suggest the Hulk take up ninjitsu with his abilities, many of which this version of the turtles now possess. We know Leo, Donnie, and Mikey get captured by the foot, but there's no logical way we can expect the Foot to ever be able to do that based on the abilities these turtles have.

You even contradict yourself trying to defend decisions made by this movie in your exchange about technology and Donnie's bo with Galactus. You can't have it both ways.

This doesn't preclude the film from being enjoyable, but I wouldn't take issue with it if this was a Battletoads film instead of TMNT. This isn't TMNT, but rather something else entirely with the TMNT elements thrown on top.

They don't discover their bulletproof until after they've learned ninjitsu...so your point doesn't hold water. Besides out numbering Raphael 100 to 1 when has the foot EVER put up a real fight vs the turtles in a movie?

I don't care what anyone says, or even if the movie itself is good, the Turtles being bulletproof is a lousy idea and I'm genuinely surprised it got approved.

There are reasons to "explain" or "justify" it. They are not *Good* reasons, however. The only singular reason for doing it is, "Wow, neat-lookin'." Which isn't a good reason.

Even if the rest of the movie Wows me, that right there would stop me from giving it anything more than a solid B, for literally turning the characters into something they were never intended to be. It is a laughably bad idea.

Some more, based on the detailed plot descriptions posted here. Major spoilers:

Spoiler:
Hamato Yoshi doesn't exist
Splinter learned martial arts from a book he found in the sewer (which actually makes the "mimicked his ninja master's movements" origin sound plausible by comparison, so... bravo, movie)
April knew the Turtles before they were mutated, and is the one who brought them to the sewer
The Shredder is never named as Oroku Saki and has no direct connection to Splinter or the Turtles
The Shredder wears a giant robot battle suit, like the Silver Samurai in "The Wolverine"
The Foot Clan appear to be more of a black ops terrorist group than actual classic ninja
Eric Sachs, who was created solely for this movie, takes a lead villain role for whatever reason

I'd say these all qualify as major changes. And I think as a whole, that's plenty of reason for fans to be turned off by this movie. But your mileage may vary.

Kid, I swear to God, don't push your f*cking luck with me. You may not want to believe this, but if I make enough noise to the right people, you're gone. Grow up or shut up. Or I'll wave my wand and make you disappear. It's happened before. Many, many, many times. You're being antagonistic on purpose. Which, as I understand it, is a bannable offense. Wanna stay and talk about your precious movie, or get kicked out for being a c*nt? Your call, skippy.

Stupid changes done for no reason are that, plain and f*cking simple. If all you have to back up your point of view are little memes, it means you have no argument. I mean, it's CLEAR you have no argument, but the fact you only have one way of expressing yourself means you're either a child or have a mental condition. I really don't care which. Knock it the f*ck off already.

Need it be reminded that fans, including many who have been "super excited" for a long time, have at some point thrown a fit over other details, like "aliens" (ok not minor but not life ending either), the exact title, the Twitter vote posters and somehow it's "not what they actually look like in the film" (when it actually is), the brief suggestion that they might have been adults...

Very few have probably agreed with 100% of everything that's ever come up between the announcement of a new film and now. I don't really see why anyone should have to though. (And anyone who has is probably easily led by others in life in general anyhow which isn't that great of a trait to have.)

This has to be a joke!

Oh no, my whole life revolves around this forum! PLEASE don't take it away from me!

Antagonistic? You're the one calling me a c#nt, probably should've put more effort into that. And I'm not gonna argue against something that proves my point with a single GIF. If your statement is that open to arguments, you should know something is wrong.

Nice try big boy.

Well Leo just go then for God's sake. You've been a negative nancy around the movie section for months. Rapid, long posts revealing your inner-most doubts, fears, and predictions of the film flopping. You seem way too invested in something that clearly isn't meant to entertain you. I wouldn't say anything but I literally come across it on every page of every thread so at this point I can hardly blame people for poking at you.

We get it and you are obviously free to express your opinion in the undoubtedly thoughtful way that you've been doing, but it's just sort of annoying at this point.

Hah. Except you're flat-out saying I'm NOT allowed to have an opinion, aren't you?

It's not... I don't know... that every time people are actually having a conversation, some jackwad calls someone a name for disagreeing with them? You people are getting f*cking stupider by the day. But I'm wrong for telling someone acting like a child that they are, indeed, acting like a child?

No. The person who hits back is never wrong. The one who throws the first punch is entirely to blame. Period. I, and others, are simply talking. These kids and their bullsh*t need to pack up and go, not me or anyone else who's actually having a discussion. Guess what? People have discussions all the time without having the same opinion on things. Amazing, I know, but if some of you people ever talked to someone except from behind a keyboard, you'd know that. Having a different opinion is not antagonizing. You guys want a nice little quiet room where nobody's allowed to disagree with you, then start your own forum, set a "No Negativity" rule, and I'll be more than happy to leave you to it.

To be frank, you're just sort of annoying at this point. I'm open to hearing negative backlash, just not from the same guy for six months who seems to be having a crisis over the outcome of this film, despite already assuming it will be a major flop(previous thread) that has no merit for him.
You are allowed to be in this forum and bitch all you want but maybe step down for a day and let someone else do it for you. Instead of getting your pants in a twist and threatening people with banning, which you can't even do.

Wow, way to put words in my mouth. There is no crisis. I have a firm belief that people should be allowed to talk - which is all I, Bry, and others whose names I don't want to drag into it have been doing - without someone coming along saying, "You're raining on my parade, you're a crybaby, you hate everything, wah wah" and all that garbage. THAT is what's annoying, and that is what needs to stop.

I think the movie's release date is going to negatively affect the box office. That's not calling it a flop, predicting, hoping it fails, whatever the hell you said I said... movies released in the middle of August historically don't do super-well, and a statement of fact is just a statement of fact. God, you people and the way you see things in people's words that aren't spoken. F*cking read. Comprehend. I have no emotional investment in the success of this goddamn movie, it's simple conversation. And if you really think I shouldn't be "allowed" to ask questions, give my opinions, or otherwise engage in conversation about something just because it *appears* to run contrary to my taste, well, I disagree. Vehemently. This entire cesspool called the internet is full of people spouting off about sh*t. I can communicate above a third grade level, and other than that, I'm no different from anyone else, so I refuse to be singled out based on that alone. Let. People. Talk. Without the goddamn memes and name-calling.

And no, I can't ban people, but historically, people who insist on trying to act like morons at my expense end up hanging themselves eventually, and that's what I was referring to. Point of fact, I've never reported or tattled on anyone, despite the fact that people around here break the so-called "rules" all day long, whenever they start attacking people simply for having the nerve to think and speak for themselves. And it's tired. When people are nothing but children, when they can't distinguish between facts and opinions, discussing and arguing, they eventually can't help but say stupid sh*t that gets them banned. It's happened before, and it'll happen again.

I don't have to have any power. Being in the right is power enough. And as long as people are going to go out of their way to treat people like sh*t around here, simply for having an opinion, I'm going to give them sh*t back, because someone should. Don't like it? There's your Block button.

Okay but that paradoxes what you just said about only having to wave your hand to have him banned and that it has happened before.
