A dozen people saying on twitter or FB that anything is true automatically makes it so, these days. As someone who studied journalism (back in the stone age when the internet was about a year old), it's pretty shameful. But hey, that's life in the digital age.

Movie still might end up doing alright, but yeah, that's not really "reporting" on their part, you're right. As for whether the reviews were paid, we'll never know. That's definitely something that happens, a LOT, but who knows if that's the case this time. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're just enthusiastic. Who knows.
I'm not going to argue with that, but remember that Internet stupidity goes both ways. You're just as likely to see someone make an utterly retarded post against something new on any number of social media sites. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Twitter is open-source. People can troll a tag and use it for their own agenda all they want, so there's not grounds to think that, say, every bit of positive press this is getting there is from agents of Platinum Dunes.

*YAWN* Why are people getting excited about random people's opinions? If I hate the way they look, the cast, and the changes made to practically everything, how is "OMG this is awesome go watch it" going to make me care? It's obvious this movie is going to be a big hit with casual moviegoers because of action and lol funny, but it's going to take more than that to convince me that this atrocity is a good TMNT movie.

Just met Jonathan Liebesman and the producers a few minutes ago! Autograph signing in LA.

I'm glad this movie is getting at-least some positive reviews, I very much believe that sounds like a really good tmnt movie.

I'm glad it's pleasantly surprising some people after all the stuff the media instigated over the last year. I am. People who are looking forward to it should be getting some good news by now. Good for them.

I just can't get over, though, how some people have an issue with other people wanting and expecting more out of movies than cartoons. And this isn't a hot at anyone, just thinking out loud, y'know? Stuff I like in one, I don't necessarily like in the other. Some things don't translate well. For me, it's all about the story of a film, and some people who have seen it have admitted that the story is weak, thus, the action can be stellar, but it's not going to entice me to buy a ticket when I can see it on DVD for far less total money spent inside 4-5 months.

I'll see it soon enough. I want to see the action scenes. That's mostly all I think looks decent. Others are the opposite way with movies in general, and hey, that's fine. What anyone spends their money on is their prerogative. I'm used to that. It's like in video games, I like lots of games with long, drawn out stories and lots of cutscenes, sometimes. Other people just want to mash buttons and don't think games need a story at all. Hey man, whatever floats your boat.

Point being, games or movies, one person's "Day-One Purchase" is another person's "Weekend Rental", and hey, that should be okay. 'Nah'mean?

I honestly wish this movie had a deeper story. It was also the perfect opportunity for a dark and gritty reboot of TMNT, but I guess the movie would have bombed terribly if it went that route.

We'll never know. That's kind of what disappoints me.

I can accept "action before story" in movies instead of vice-versa, but "accepting" and "preferring" aren't the same. ((Shrug))

This. I've loved movies that were panned (Transformers, The Lone Ranger) and I hated movies that were highly praised (Drive, Inception)

And most oscar movies, I end up falling asleep because they were so boring, I couldn't truly come up with an opinion if it was a good movie or not.

This is a film that's targeted for Kids, They don't want overly complex stories in a Kids movie, But stories that are easy to follow for the whole Family to enjoy.

You missed the point entirely.

The oft-stated opinion that movies need to be super-simplistic in order for people to enjoy and understand them nowadays is... VERY disturbing.

I needed that.

Yeah, yeah, seems like the future, don't it?

I think people still understand things just fine. I think more than anything, it's the internet making each person think that they are the only person who can understand anything and that everyone else is clueless, and just couldn't possibly think on the same level.

You're right.

I wanted depth and heart and tempestuous skies and a moody city lit by cab lights and police sirens.

But it's not going to happen.

Even the fan base itself is massively divided. If they give us something Mirage-esque, the OT fans would be upset and if they give us OT, the Mirage fans will be upset. Striking the right balance is difficult.

And given that to get the numbers they need to appeal to the general populous, neither polarity of the fan base is going to get what they want. But hopefully as fans of varying preferences we may get something we can broadly enjoy that ticks a few of our respective boxes.

There will be good reviews and bad reviews. For non fans there may be a nostalgia element but even if they made the most commercial turtles film possible there will always be some people who take one look and deem it completely absurd.

I just got back from an advanced screening and i thought the movie was great. Lots of action, good humor. Shredder and karai were mirror of their roles in the nick cartoon. It was a great enjoyable film set in a modern time with reference to comic characters and movies. Loved it.
