Okay... my thoughts are this... The 2014 movie was a big cartoon. A sequel means a chance for improvement.

I think the series can only go up from here. They made a ton of changes to this movie, based on what fans were saying. Now that's all behind us. They've heard the fans, they've listened, and they can start this second film on the right foot, so that it doesn't suffer from so much rewriting, reshooting, and editing.

Nah, the wrong people are still behind it. It's mathematically impossible for a sequel to really improve on anything, based on where they started from and the relative lack of care put into everything. At best it will be more of the same, but with even more characters uncomfortably crammed in. So it's probably going to be pretty awful.

As others have said, the decline of the Transformers series is a good template to go by, as far as prediction of quality if nothing else. Each movie has been about twice as bad as the one before it (and the first one was actually a pretty good movie, real shame they didn't even wait five minutes after the money came in to start turning the franchise into the worst kind of bad joke), but they have no reason to change anything because the same imbeciles keep paying to see them so obviously they're "good enough".

I'm not sure the sequel will be big money, though. This one had a big start and then quickly crashed and burned, relatively speaking. I won't be surprised if it ends up like "Kick-Ass", where enough people liked it to earn it "surprise hit" status, but then everyone decided in between that one movie was plenty, thus tanking the sequel. We'll see, but that's my prediction. People who have already had their fears confirmed that this franchise is in the wrong hands aren't going to be going to see the sequel out of curiosity, for one thing. They've already been burned.

They waited too long for Kick Ass 2. First, it lost it's edge when Chloe Grace Moretz got older (a 15 year old assassin is just not quite as shocking as a 12 year old) and the director chosen for the sequel sucked ass compared to Matthew Vaughn. But then again, you could be right, in that some movies are meant to be only one hit wonders. I think Fantastic Four is in line with this way of thinking.

Hell yes!! the first movie! was gold! there's so much they can do for the sequel!!! Bebop & Rocksteady, Casey Jones and maybe.. just maybe.. Krang! so I'm beyond excited, and I'm ready to defend it too.

And for the third movie.. Leatherhead, Baxter Stockman and the Technodrome! oh, and I'd also love to see the Triceratons.

I absolutely hated the 2014 film and it's one of worst I've seen. You would think there's no chance the sequel could be worse, but why give this universe another chance for a marginally better bad film?

i really hope they ditch the cluttered gear in the next movie, trying to draw them, I really hate how messy the PD Turtles looks.

Extremely happy

Something tells me they prob learned a lesson with this first one and realized they got lucky as it wasn't the movie/story itself that sold tickets but rather people just going because the Turtles were live on the big screen again after so many years and the nostalgia factor.

Now, they go back to the drawing board with one thought.. You can't please everyone, especially fanboys.. so create a story and STICK TO IT. This last-minute editing/cutting/chopping has to go. Keep it under wraps if you have to because EVERYONE is going to be critical of this property..

Then theres also the element of surprise.. the first one didnt sit well with critics and had split reactions between fans. Make the necessary changes to put together a GOOD STORY that flows and market the **** out of this next movie.

I'm a little afraid of this..

They'll really have to pay attention to:
1) when they release it and what blockbuster films release around it
2) when/how they market the film and whom they market it to
3) better be a damn GOOD movie that will create positive word of mouth
4) what characters/enemies they use from TMNT lore (Casey? Bebop/Rocksteady? Krang? Baxter? Do you bring back Shredder?)

Im sure there is much more as well..

Meh.

Considering my biggest issue with the film was the script and they've got the same nimrods writing the sequel, I don't have high hopes.

The only saving grace is if they learned not to do anything that's just really stupid to begin with and they won't have to panic on re-writes and reshoots to make the film disjointed. If they avoid that, maybe it'll be better.

Honestly, I feel like the rewrites were poorly done and not well thought out as well, which just furthers my opinion that the writers aren't a good choice.

So I expect another hour and a half of "more of the same."

With this, we would have likely gotten Col. Scrhaeder and Dimension X turtle race after all. They should definitely not listen to the fan base. >_o

Really? Gold? Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

Perhaps.. but the end result of the movie that was released wasnt great either because of outcries for changes too late in the process of a movie that was already in post-production. The point Im making here is that now since they've established the tone, the cast and the universe for the future installment(s), there's no need to go and do extensive rewrites.

I do agree that I probably would've disliked the Col Schraeder/Turtle race, etc.. but to change everything so late in the game, hindered what could've been. They can fix a lot of the issues from this first movie by addressing them in the sequel.. but it'll take some genius writing to do that and hopefully they find that genius somehow, somewhere.

I'd rather not have a sequel at this stage. On one hand I'm happy that the people who enjoyed the first film will probably get more of the same - I'm glad it brings joy to them. If I felt it was going to be harmess then fair play. But I worry that more of this turtles portrayal being being 'commercially successful' sends out the wrong message and will lead to more substandard stuff in the future, as opposed to the great drama we have had from Mirage, IDW, 4kids, the original film etc. I'm not saying that those are masterpieces of the highest standard but they are pretty intelligent and entertaining examples of drama. I actually made this exact point in another thread a few minutes ago, but it's more appropriate for this particular thread.

The sequel COULD be better. But with the same creative team behind it, I'm really doubting that.

I'd much rather have a total reboot 4-5 years down the line.

Shhh... that sounds crazily altered enough they just might go for it should they see such suggestions. lol

Well, at the very least I suppose we can hope they will have an aversion to trying to repeat the amount of criticism some of their own decisions put them up against. I hope they will choose to be more mindful, and for their own good sneak around online to see what people are saying.

Cautiously hopeful, though I suppose eventually that will change when we start getting real details. I just hope it changes for the positive rather than lessens the hope.

For now there is at least plenty of time to get feedback out there. And like real feedback on the nitty-gritty of it... pacing, Turtles screen time, etc. that should be adjusted, not just wanted characters or themes.

Me too. Preferably done by someone trustworthy. In fact scrap that - someone who cares about the final product should be a condition of the reboot, it should be a minimum. It doesn't seem like PD really care about giving us a deep film, as long as they make money. Obviously this is true of everyone to an extent, but at least some take some pride in their art.
