I'm about there too.

But to be fair, the farmhouse stuff is always alittle bland and 'filler-y' whenever it's around for more than 10 minutes.

Yeah you're right about that.

But I guess the real problem for is the horror elements. I never really liked scary films, so none of the episodes are interesting to me in the slightest. Let alone enjoyable.

I'm a big horror guy and I don't find it interesting either.

'Oh they referenced Friday the 13th!' Just like everyone else has 10 million times.

When I was watching this episode earlier I was thinking the same thing I just can't seem to get into the horror themed filler episodes.

This could be rectified with some cutbacks to New York, I'd say.

But I agree that that's kind of a problem -- not with the farm setting itself, necessarily -- but with it going hand in hand with these "recovery/hiding" arcs that have become a staple of the series. You need a certain amount of stories there to drive home that they're slowly recovering ("Return to New York" in the comics wouldn't work nearly so well without the downtime stories preceding Raph's anger), but at the same time, you're very aware that their function is to, yeah, literally fill space because the redemption arc is just around the corner.

I liked this one and the Creep episode a lot. I'm not sure what the difference is.

If they were back in NY they'd still be doing these same mutant filler episodes like we had in Season 2, its the change of scenery that makes it more interesting.

I'm with Cubed on this one. Besides, it's really early in the season. Anything could happen.

They gotta get their money's worth on the new farmhouse set they built.

Personally I'm loving all this spooky 'filler', though it couldn't hurt if they flashed a short "meanwhile, in NY.." scene. Who knows, maybe they're not doing that for a reason. I'm not gonna judge until I see more episodes.

I agree with Cubed too. It's a change of pace.

And besides, weren't people hoping before that they could get away from New York for a while? This is the chance to see them get expanded on their characters by being in an unfamiliar environment (countryside.) They are used to cement and city life, but being out in the boonies can hold way different surprises.

Except that it's pretty much the same exact thing and the characters so far haven't changed a bit.

Leo has the most development and it's basically boiled down to he has a new voice and a limp. The AprilTello trash is still where it was in season 1 even. I guess Donatello has gotten more annoying?

It's just disappointing after the S2 finale that it's back to the same stuff. Just with a woodsy coat of paint.

"One of the worst mistakes a storyteller can make is to put the hero in deep jeopardy and then have someone else rescue him.
There should be no luck whatsoever when it comes to the hero saving the day or reaching his goal. It should be the outcome of the character arc. It should be a demonstration and application of all that he has learned, all that he has overcome.
Just as bad as rescuing the hero in these final moments is the inserting of pure coincidence or luck in allowing him to survive or reach his goal. This is known as deus ex machina, which is Latin for “god from a machine,” and it'll get your story rejected faster than misspelling the editor's name in your cover letter." - Larry Brooks

That's why this entire season so far has been awful, and why stuffing April full of convenient powers is preventing her from being a strong female protagonist.

I wish that there was a backdoor in getting rid of April's powers.

ill admit, the repetition of horror theme is getting a little....repetitive, for lack of a better word. but after maybe this weeks, and maybe dream beavers, im sure there will be a solid episode focusing on how the turtles are planning to stop the kraang/demutate anyone/find splinter, etc, and that is the episode i cannot wait for.

But, don't forget! We're going to have Demon Donnie! Can this show get any more ridiculous. I saw the concept are and the toy for that, and I am sorry, but it looks stupid.

At least these horror theme episodes will air sometime within this month or in November. It will at least feel appropriate during time of the holidays.

Maybe instead of airing the punk frogs, they will air the speed demon episode and dream beavers first?

Dream Beavers sounds interesting, but Speed Demon sounds like it will be down there with Pizzaface.

Punk Frogs are next weeks episode if you saw the ending of episode 3 with the frog with mutagen on his head.

I love the John Carpenter theme in this; the "Halloween 3" pumpkin commercial signal Raph was looking at before he went to the basement, the final monster and the turtles turning in the "The Thing" performances, and then the "They Live" look the mom first showed to Mikey. Horror movies are fun and this one was just a cool send off to one of this genres' movie master.

This is also the perfect month to have episodes like this, it is October after all. I liked the bit of history we got of the O'Neil family, then the original voice of April as the mom

I like the fact that this one, just like the second episode, felt like it wasn't dealing with too much in its plot like the first one. I am curious at if the turtles are going to learn something from this break from the city. I am hoping that those concept suits we saw at comic con (or wherever they came from) are a reflection of learning new lessons in future episodes, so that they can take what they have learned back to the city.
