I'd imagine someone did a photoshop job, cause that movie + figure package looks a lot like the one with the miniature figurines.

Also, it was in the SCRIPT that this was not only his plan, but his dialog, as well. All this was probably BEFORE the reshoots, except for the parts with Shredder, but those aren't even necessary for the story-seed to work. All you have to do is listen to his "inspiring speech" in front of the whole city (the one on the steps, or the one at the dinner, take your pick- he did it TWICE, even if not in the same words) to realize that he had already thought this out WAY before- like, I dunno, maybe fifteen years earlier? It's obvious to the viewers, even if not to the characters themselves (since they aren't privy to outside observation as we are). Furthermore, Sachs talking to April also reveals some of his intentions from the perspective of "hindsight" on April's part after she gets to the lair and Splinter tells her the "rest of the story". (Thank you Walter Cronkite.) She realizes- belatedly, of course- that he had used her to find them from the moment she told him. Because he is an evil, greedy b@stard.

2: Yeah, I KNOW he didn't die "in the fire" as she thought- he was SHOT- but STILL was KILLED during the fire- it's semantics, really. (Seriously??! THAT'S your argument??! ) The point remains that Sachs made it sound like the FOOT was responsible for the deaths and the destruction of the lab, when they weren't. (Unless you count HIS involvement, since he WAS Shredder's "student"- not that he ever did anything "ninja-y"....) He was using the Foot as a convenient party to blame the tragedy on. Which fits in with the rest of his plan. It makes perfect sense in light of everything else he said/did.

3: April's dad probably either had no idea anyone else was there, or they died trying to get out, possibly because they came back unexpectedly. Either that, or Sachs did indeed kill any witnesses to the shooting. It's also possible that they were trying to save the data, and got trapped inside. We just don't know, it's just a throwaway line anyway- the important part was that her FATHER died.

3: Making progress and being able to RECREATE something are two COMPLETELY different things, though. It's like when Captain America was "born", and the scientist who created the formula was killed- every attempt after that to recreated it FAILED. Because no one had the ORIGINAL formula anymore. They were basically throwing stuff against the wall and hoping it would stick to recreate the same effect- and without some crucial component, it was NEVER going to work! Same situation here. Without the ORIGINAL formula to work with, they would be flying blind, as it were. Chemistry is an exact science, where even the slightest deviation can completely change the end result, and cause the formula to fail in its intended effect. So fifteen years without any luck? Sounds about right. If he destroyed all the mutagen and even HALF the data, they'd probably never get back what was lost, and thus would have nothing to show for their efforts. That's pretty easy to understand.

4: The turtles characterizations were perhaps a bit simplified- I'll give you that one- but for the purposes of the movie AS IT WAS FILMED, we were never supposed to get a full, in-depth look at their personalities. All it was really necessary to know was who was who and what they were like in the broadest sense, because we've known going in that it was always supposed to get at least one sequel.

Also, pretty sure that hashi scene PROVED that there was tension between Leo and Raph, since Leo flat-out SAID that Raph was the one who always got them put there. Apparently, there's more to their bickering than just sibling rivalry- there's resentment from Leo that Raph keeps getting them punished! Great bit of characterization there, actually. Even more so since Raph immediately follows that with his declaration that Leo won't have to worry about it any more because he's leaving. And that brings them all up short. Obviously, this has been building for a while, but Raph has never mentioned this plan before, and they are upset by it.

As for Splinter- well, I wasn't a fan of what he did, but no, he obviously WASN'T aware of them going up- he was very plainly surprised when Mikey blurted it out when he finally "broke" after being punished for so long. (And with his biggest weakness, too- classic!!) And FYI, he wasn't CHOKING Raph- he simply picked him up off the floor using his tail. That's one DARN strong tail!!

And sorry you feel that way about Donnie- I thought his panic-attacks and geek-out moments were hilarious. But then again, I love Big Bang Theory, too- and mostly because of Sheldon.... (Those two would probably get along great. Except that Donnie's less of an @$$.)

Nope, not on my disc. I heard it just fine.
i seriously agree with everything you've said it farely obvious if people were willing to let them selfs see these things. but some people just dont want to so they wont.

The FR4ME edition is also coming to Spain, and the German release has been pushed back from February 12th to March 5th for some reason.

According to Amazon Italy there's also a gift set coming with the Classics figures, I doubt the image is correct though, probably the same figures as were just released in the US.
if real, that looks cool

Agree, it also seems like an odd paring to put those particular figures unrelated to the film together with this movie. Plus they look like the stock images found online. Walmart had clear window, right?

If it's the set from Walmart or similar, someone's gonna to be disappointed if they buy that set expecting the classics collection. *tisk*

I think it does matter which scenes were part of the re-shoots in this discussion because if say the press conference was something that was left intact from Leibesman's original take then we know he wasn't really spelling out his plan at all as the whole super soldier aspect doesn't lend itself.

Again if the press conference was before the re-shoots then any similarities between his speech and what was later in the movie to be his plan is coincidental.

It's not really arguing semantics but rather the movie doesn't make it clear what happened to the other scientists and that's important to my other argument.

But while we're on the subject of the villain's MO of having Sach's company being the public face of the good guys and scapegoating the Foot when indeed they are the same organization you have to wonder what their overall plan was.

As I said in a previous post Shredder's big motive for the Foot to not slip into the realm of myth doesn't make sense when everyone in the NYC knows and is scared of them already. It also doesn't seem to gel with the plan of having Sachs' company swoop in and appear to save the world from the Foot. That plans gets them (more) money yes but it doesn't accomplish what Shredder wants...which doesn't make sense anyway because he seemingly had it already.

None of it makes sense (and that's before taking into account how obvious it would be to everyone when Sachs was responsible) which is why I just don't see any seeding of the idea being intentional on the writer's parts.

Captain America's origin is a set in a specific time period where there was no computers networked or otherwise and had the tone of an old film serial where due to special wartime practices we accept a scientist have the sole knowledge of the super soldier formula.

In certain aspects TMNT 2014 took place in a more "realistic" setting so I find it difficult to believe Mr O'Neil could destroy all data relating to how to create mutagen I find it even more difficult no one else at TCRI knew or had a good idea the direction to finish the research. Sachs himself seemed like a pretty important scientist on the project who seemed to know a lot about it.

I'd argue they were more than just a "bit simplified" but the problem is that the way they filmed with the turtles being secondary characters only used in action scenes was wrong. They shouldn't have done.

All you're observations are great although I have less faith they subtly implying a specific history between the characters but rather implying a generic dynamic with the characters that every other version has actually shown.

Well we know in at least one version of the movie not only did he know but sent them to the surface to specifically fight the Foot.

I don't think it's nitpicking to wonder how the turtles could regularly fight the Foot and have Splinter not know. Why would the turtles even want to anyway the movie didn't make it clear if the turtles even knew of their connection to the Foot. Just like everything they didn't think any of this through.

Also Splinter's ultra strong prehensile tail picked up Raph by the neck essentially choking him. Now in other versions Splinter has used physical coercion to have his sons fall in line very much like the character he's based on but that level is too harsh for a character where supposed to buy as loving father.

No, it really doesn't matter whether they were re-shoots or not, they were what went into the final film, and also the script itself. The movie as filmed makes more sense than if Sachs had been Shredder, I'll grant you, but the entire premise of "saving the city" while being this evil mastermind of a plot to massacre innocents behind the scenes still works even with Sachs as Shredder. The only REAL difference is we don't get those two conversations that show they've been just biding their time waiting for another opportunity to put it into motion. Which April rather naively provided.

I don't have much to say about the time-period issue, although if they were like MOST big corporations, that data (since it was so much a part of their plan, which they clearly didn't want anyone else knowing about) would have been kept under SUPER high security. IE- lock and key, probably NOT on a main server or somewhere accessible by anyone else but the team, and certainly not without insane encryptions, hidden files, and firewalls, etc to protect it. Meaning that if it was lost at the source, it was probably gone for good. It's not like they would have had it in the Cloud! (Which wouldn't have existed then, anyway!)

Best guess? They had it so tightly secured that EVERYTHING was in one place- and when that was torched, all their work literally went up in smoke. Not sure about the scientists, but I doubt most of them kept all that stuff in their heads, in any case. It would be too much info, and too complicated, to remember enough to work from that. It would HAVE to be recorded. So I don't see how that argument holds up- MOST people can't remember their entire contact list of phone numbers, much LESS a highly complicated formula for a unique and hard-to-duplicate compound! So no matter how many were actually killed, nobody would have had all that stuff in their heads- that's why scientists take notes and record data to begin with. That's common sense.

As for the issues regarding the Foot, I can only assume that Shredder means that they are like a "Bogyman" to the city, something everyone hears about but never really sees unless they are a target. He wants to be able to rule in the open, which I guess is hard to do without drawing direct fire from the authorities. You know, since NYC DID still have cops. Anything more would have probably brought down the National Guard or some other heavy law enforcement or military branch on their heads, and they would hardly have been in a position to win that battle. So they were sticking to the shadows, so to speak, and pulling heists where they could, targeting easy victims, but not doing anything that could get them out-gunned.

If their scheme had worked, he would basically BE the authority in NYC, after all the chaos settled and they had what they wanted. Which seems to be what they were going for to begin with. They even mentioned that the government would probably let them run things any way they wanted once they waved the "cure" around. (Or words to that effect.) Heck, they were probably even going to make people pay out the wazoo for it, just so that they could give it to all the rich people and make more allies that way as well. Having grateful people in positions of power was probably part of the "master plan" of getting "stupid rich" as Sachs put it.

I wasn't even implying a specific history between the characters, just that Sachs' plan was spelled out from the get-go, and NO ONE NOTICED! He's been pretending to be this rich philanthropist for years, and everyone buys it, when he had that nasty little "get rich(er) quick" scheme waiting in the wings the whole time, and apparently even flaunts it in public as a "pledge" to keep the city safe! That's pretty ballsy, IMHO. But then, a lot of villains do that sort of thing, especially in comics, so it's not really that surprising.

If you're referring to the Blue Door script, that was scrapped (at least mostly) so it has nothing to do with the final movie as far as Splinter's knowledge is concerned. But nowhere in the actual movie did he SEND them up. He apparently didn't know about ANY of the times they went out, as he says he had forbidden it because they were not yet ready. And since you're nit-picking about it, if you've ever been or had a teenager (or four) in the house, it's NOT hard to sneak around behind a parent's back! (I've done it many times, and even helped friends do the same. Splinter has no clue, like many parents....) Of course, the problem is usually in sneaking back IN. Which is what happened here. Getting OUT is pretty easy. It's when you screw up on re-entry that you get busted. Thought EVERYONE knew that, LOL!

And if you watch that scene with his tail, it picks him up, but does NOT "choke" him. Raph is pretty much just flailing around because his feet are off the ground and he can't do anything about it. Might be a bit heavy-handed, but certainly not as harsh as you make it out. But I imagine it put the fear of "dad" into him....

Donnie not Sheldon? Maybe not, but he's got a LOT of the same personality traits, LOL!

I just don't buy that Shredder, Sachs, and Co. would be able to pull off their scheme without the goddamn United States Government doing anything about it. That's what really kills it, for me. This isn't like Lex Luthor trying to take over the world with advanced Kryptonian crystals that can grow entire continents laced with Kryptonite. This... would be more of a Waco situation. Seriously. "We're gonna terrorize people with this poison, and only WE have the cure, so you all better bow down! Bwa-ha-haaa!" "Yeah? We got tanks, asshole. Thanks for broadcasting where you friggin' live." Forget the Turtles, they wouldn't even be necessary to exist in this universe. Their plan couldn't have worked. Ever.

It's just too much of a reach, for me. That plan is the sh*ts. Granted, that's because it wasn't the plan they were supposed to have when they wrote the movie, but still.

I'm sorry. But when you pick someone up by their neck...you're choking them. If you don't think so? Try it. I don't care 'how you do it'. Try picking someone up by their neck...and I'm sorry. A 'Father Figure' picking up their kid by their neck and then have them flailing was just Plain Stupid & Pretty damn near Child Abuse.

It's one thing to do stuff while Training in Martial Arts. This isn't that...

To me, Splinter was just a Giant Prick who I would not have cared A Single Bit if he Died. He treated Megan Fox better than we saw him treat any of his '4 Children'.

It's a reason why I hate Splinter in the 2012 cartoon too. That's another Splinter who I find to be just a total Prick. I wouldn't shed One Tear if he died, either.

Not true Have you Every seen the "picking a child up my the ears" trick. You use your palms at the jaw bone (while pretending to hold the ears) as a means to lift the person is causes no pain, no injury, no problem So if he were to leave no pressure on the Esophagus or vital veins then its not and issue.

To 99% of the audience, he was choking him. Let's just speak plain.
