He's a "good director" in that he knows how to help get really great performances out of his cast, but he doesn't know how to actually set up and film a scene properly, especially anything action-wise. That's why now he's more a "hack for hire" who just writes and touches up scripts and lets other people do all the "real" work.

Not to get too off topic, but have you seen "Red State" or "Tusk"? As a longtime Kevin Smith fan, I was worried about the direction his career was taking, but I thought those two films were incredible. I even read some reviews from folks who DIDN'T like those movies where they admitted they couldn't stop thinking about them.

And visually, he's definitely turned a corner. Those two movies are wonderfully shot. Not just good for a Kevin Smith movie, but GOOD good.

If your last impression of Kevin was "Cop Out" then you have to give his newest stuff a shot.

YES. BARRON. He knocked it out the park first time around. It would've been awesome if he had two different films on his resume both called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He gave the thumbs up to the new Turtles but thought the plot "didn't feel in any way real" so it's not likely he'd be interested in directing new TMNT films with bigger more sci-fi-ish plots.

Robert Rodriguez hasn't been involved in a good film since Planet Terror. He produced Predators and that movie sucked. Sin City 2 sucked. And the Machete films sucked. No thanks on Rodriguez.

Zack Snyder screwed up big time with that terrible Man of Steel flick.

And Del Toro stank up the place with Pacific Rim which was boring as hell. The only good scene was the fight in Hong Kong (even with that stupid 'out of the blue sword' thing.

Justin Long?! The same Justin Long that voiced Alvin?!

I liked Man of Steel and Pacific Rim. The former was heavily flawed but not enough for me to hate the movie.

i' didnt really like man of steel but I loved pacific rim, sure it wasnt great and was far from perfect but it was fun. superman just bores me in general

Exactly why he should make the film. Superhero films are about good vs evil, and yes, that is boring. Good thing the turtles are not superheroes.

But, seriously, if you want a hard edged, HBO series with an adult perspective on the Turtles, Fincher is the man.

If you want a campy, schlocky, low budget, goofy film; Lloyd Kaufman is your choice. Not a judgement call, just a fact.

If you like brainless, sloppy, storytelling, with big make-up and anamatronic set pieces that distract you from the shoddy acting; go with Del Torro.

I know you think so. This is where we disagree. It's a pedantic discussion, but an important distinction to be made as far as I'm concerned.

This is likely one of the reasons you're on side with PDTMNT, and I am not.

You think of them as super powered entities, altruistic, concerned with the safety of humanity; to me they are child soldiers, trained to kill, for revenge. They are scrupulous at best, anarchists at most.

Our ideal turtles stem from very different iterations of who the turtles are. I doubt you'd have been pleased if they'd made the movie I wanted to see.

oh, I want to vote also for steve barron!not only is the first film just a great film but I am curious what he could pop up now with all the history the turtles have been through up to now..(I am talking about city at war, vol4 comics etc etc...
