A very solid episode and love the new outfits!
Even though it was just a vision I'm glad we got a good bit of Fishface in action and fighting in the water no less!

On the Donnie vs Tigerclaw, Donnie's quest was to be in strong in body as well as mind. Tigerclaw is a powerful warrior who can't be beaten with tricks one on one. It seems suitable that he's the one Donnie would have to face and be forced to use physical strength against to win.

Yes, that Fishface water fighting was amazing. I'm surprised they hadn't done it sooner. Ya know, before they totally nerfed him.

I won't nitpick everything, but my main beef was with the campfire scene with Splinter. His speech in the first movie has moved me to tears several times, but here he shows up and basically says "you're an asshole, you're a retard, you're a nerd and you're a big pussy. Now go dress up and play make believe in the woods. Also I'm not dead."

And then Mikey is the only one to get emotional.
Have to say I agree with this.

I enjoyed the many references & visuals but overall I felt it was lackluster.

I enjoyed it. The part with Mikey getting teared up was pretty cute and I loved the part where they saw the humanoid buck spirit and freaked out, thinking it was another mutant. One thing I kinda wish they had touched on was Donatello's mask. It obviously based off Casey's mask, and I really wish we had seen somebody acknowledge it.

Decent episode. Better than last week.

I really hope there's a good reasoning for why the Kraang have only taken over NY. That's the biggest plothole imo.

Haha we're the Kraang and we will destroy you all!...while we take over just this one city.

Great episode! I like how they bring back familiar characters and the action scenes were very good.

Cool

What a great episode. At the beginning, it was kind of slower, but the minute Master Splinter appeared the episode started to become a great one. Love the action scenes, each of the boys fighting their enemies and by following their lessons, they could defeat them. Finally, Leo decided to go back to New York. It was time to return.

Someone pointed out on Tumblr that Mikey wasn't the only one crying, Leo too.

Okay, so I just watched this week's episode. I really liked it. Before I get into it, though, could someone please answer me this? Why in the world do people complain over the love triangle when it's not even the focus of the episode? It was purely used in this ep for humor and I did actually find it funny. Chinatown Ghost Story...I can understand why people would complain, a small moment to poke fun at the triangle where it doesn't even impact the plot or story in any way, I honestly don't get. Alright, that off my chest, time to get into it.

Let's see, between that Demon Car ep and the Chimera ep, I was wondering exactly how much time has passed...same for the last ep and this one. In teh first ep of this season, it was shown that they all train, so April fighting better isn't really a surprise. It shouldn't be anyway.

So, anywho, I loved the fact that Leo's leg was still a problem. Just like I theorized earlier on, it's deffinitely psychological. Like in the last episode, since he wasn't focusing on his leg and wasn't distracted by it or even thinking about it when April tried to eat him, he was able to do what was necessary, but then we have him in this ep going on about his leg again. Same with the Dream Beaver ep. At the end, he was like, "My leg is better"...but by the next episode, it was a problem again. In Leo's case, he definitely had to learn to apply "Mind over Matter" and that push from Splinter's spirit helped do so. I applaud hte writers for doing this as it's a nice, real portrayal of people who have suffered from an injury and how some people have difficulty getting over it because it's mostly all in their mind...although, I kind of wish that every time (or sometimes anyway) Leo felt pain, he'd think back to his being beaten by Shredder's henchmen, to really show just how traumatizing that situation truly was for him.

Oh, speaking of Shredder, I liked seeing "Super Shredder". Better than movie 2.

Now, something interesting I found about Donnie this ep for his quest, was how Splinter told him how he had to rely more on his body as opposed to always relying on his mind. Splinter told him this once before. The ep where he made that chart where he was overanalyzing and overthinking everything and how Mikey was a more natural fighter because he just did what came naturally to him in a fight. Mikey also did that in the ep where they faced the Footbots for the first time. Mikey got past Leo by doing his own thing naturally. So yeah, I found their quests a little ironic.

Donnie's Shaman mask was pretty cool. I liked it and it fit. Those types of masks do symbolize knowledge and wisdom...and he is the smart one and seriously, his looking down at Tigerclaw while wearing it...that looked kind of badass. lol

Raph's quest was great! Personally, I just like his lines this ep...but that's how I am with him in a general sense. I like how he mentioned the underwater priate ship or whatever it was. Too cute! lol Also, I like how he was in charge of training. Seriously, this ep just shows (to me) how totally plausible it was for him to get caught in Within the Woods. Seems he was in charge of everything. No oroper rest. It just feels like Raph does a lot. I love him! lol

With Mikey, I like how he got over his fear of squirrels. As I mentioned someplace, it's not surprising he developed a far of them after the Squirrelnoid issue. At least they were consistent. For his quest, I like how he did concentrate (and thought of ICK) and then went back to concentrating. I hope they let him do that in later episodes, although that potential has always been there. He's nowhere near as distracted as he was for season 1. As the show is continuing, he seems to be getting better in some respects. That aside, still enjoyed his batle against Rahzar.

Other things....oh yeah, the campfire scene. It was nice, but not as emotional as movie 1's, but still a nice scene. To me, since a lot of stuff happens "offscreen". so for my headcanon, I think everyone felt that Splinter was dead, despite how Mikey seemed to be the only one who didn't think so. Even in episode 1, he was quoting Splinter until Raph kinda put a damper on it...and after that, no one really talked about Splinter or referenced him anymore. Even in the Punk Frog episode, Mikey left out Splinter and only mentioned his brothers. If everyone at that point felt that Splinter was dead, then I could understand the avoidance of mentioning him given how painful it probably is. Maybe that's why Mikey didn't mention Splinter and this ep kind of gives me that impression. "Are you a ghost?"

Oh Splinter's line, "My sons" in Japanese was interesting to hear. Funny how I can catch that type of Japanese, but if I turned on the TV and watched a Japanese program, I'd have trouble catching stuff. lol

OH something else. When the four were in the woods and the deer appeared to them and Raph, Donnie, and Mikey tried attacking...I noticed something interesting regarding Donnie that I've never seen before. So we saw Donnie accidentally hit Raph. He then accidentally hit Mikey. Then when he turned, he accidentally hit Raph again. Raph got mad and started to hit on Donnie. Donnie kicked him off and was going after Raph. I found that interesting since Donnie isn't generally aggressive. Any theories? I mean we have that ep with the spiders and he hit Mikey because he saw a spider. Mikey jumped and started beating on Donnie who didn't defend himself at all. In the Sadorable ep, Raph embarassed Donnie, but he didn't fight back...he tried talking. So yeah...I found his sudden aggressiveness interesting since I don't recall ever seeing him getting aggressive.

Okay, that's about all I can think of to say right off. It's a nice episode, and it's nice that Leo is ready to go back to NYC. I mean, it makes sense. He can't fight with a bad leg and he had to get over the trauma of having it.

Oh, something I did dislike...I really wish it would've been two episodes as opposed to one. They could've done more with each turtle that way. Like maybe the first ep focuses on Leo and Mikey's spirit quests and the other one Donnie and Raph's or whatever. Just felt they could've gotten more out of it. Everything did feel as if it happened much too fast.

My theory is that the EPF has some how quarantined the city off, preventing people from entering and exiting somehow and the Kraang can't get out, or either their mutagen isn't all that perfected after all and they're working on it, or either Leatherhead is thwarting their plans from expanding and conquering other areas along with what this incarnation's version of the "Mutanimals" might be, which may include Slash and the Newtralizer. This could also be the case as to why no news reports about the Kraang have been mentioned on TV. EPF covering it up. Who knows.

I know people want them to go back to NYC because they really want to see Shredder and all that. Me, personally, am more interested in why the Kraang haven't gone beyond NYC yet. They had over three months.

Yeah, that's what he said. "My sons". Still sounded weird to me, though, personally...like it didn't feel natural or something. I guess it felt weird because he was saying this to them as opposed to telling someone about them.

Ya that's what I mean. Even if Leatherhead or anyone else was fighting back I assume the Kraang could unleash an army big enough to out do anybody. Like they don't have the ability to open portals anywhere else in the world or at least country?

I always like to give the benefit of the doubt and suspension of disbelief to a certain point but it's just weird they're bound to NY. Well we will seen next week.

How's this for a convoluted theory. Kraang Prime was knocked out when Casey hit him..her? with the party wagon. Maybe Kraang Prime is unconscious and the other Kraang are too stupid to do anything on their owns without Kraang Prime's instructions and leadership and Gilber Godfrey Kraang was killed...so maybe there isn't a third in command to take over and give instructions if Roseanne and Gilbert Kraang aren't around. The last instructions they received was to Kraangify the inhabitants of NYC and that's why they haven't gone beyond that point.

Ha that could work. Could be used as part of the humor too.

Or maybe Shredder formed an alliance with them and had different plans.

its not only a matter of which enemy rivals each 1 of them, its also which 1 would they need 2 face in order 2 become spiritually stronger

its pretty much a given that water puts out fire so in order 4 raph 2 become stronger, he had 2 overcome a enemy w/ a water advantage and fishface is currently the only 1 fitting that catergory
since rahzar can easily slice through wood and bones, mikey had 2 learn 2 adapt so that he wouldnt get all cut up
given tigerclaws strength, it makes sense why donnie had 2 face tigerclaw in order 4 him 2 become unmovable
from the way shredder practically "flew" behind leo in the finale, leo had 2 become faster in order 2 actually stand a chance

This wasn't my favorite episode, but I think it was a very important one, and it was well done for the time slot they had. I also wish they would've maybe spanned it for two episodes, and done two turtles per episode, or something like that, because it did feel really rushed.

I got the impression that Leo's not too fond of anything higher than what might be found in New York. He looked pretty freaked out when he found out he was on a bridge, surrounded by fog so thick that he couldn't see the ground.

Raph had the best weapons, but I had to laugh at how much his mask looked like a really big mustache. Also, I didn't know he had a thing for fishnet stockings. I really enjoyed his pirate ship line as well. It displays his dry sense of humor. I get the impression that, if the other guys had been there, he wouldn't have made that joke, and that kind of serves to underline just how independent he prefers to be sometimes. Perhaps that's a trait that will help lead him to Shredder later on.

I didn't have much of a problem with Splinter's scene. Who knows how long spirits can appear to those who's spirits and bodies are still connected. It's possible that, in the short amount of time he had, he needed to tell the turtles what they needed to hear before he disappeared. I also feel like he didn't want to get too sentimental because he wanted the turtles to actually focus more on what he was saying than on the emotions behind it. Finding out that he was alive was probably a shock as it was, without getting mushy and causing them emotional distraction during their quests.

I really liked how each turtle fought in a setting that resembled that of their spirit element. That was a magnificent touch.

I think Mikey matured a lot in this episode. He's never going to come off as mature as the other turtles, because that's just who Mikey is. I think he learned how to focus himself, though, and hopefully we'll see him utilize that in the future. I noticed how he was the first to master his required skill, and the first to defeat his spirit. It makes sense, because from a technical standpoint Mikey has the most raw talent of any of the turtles: He just doesn't focus well. Maybe, because he is so talented, he never had to. I know a few really, really smart people who have never had to really apply themselves, so they don't bother to for even difficult tasks because they assume that they'll get through it solely based on their talent. I wonder if Mikey is kind of the same way: He could get away with not having to focus as much as his brothers, because he's just that good, so he didn't get into the habit of actually focusing his mind.

April didn't seem too thrilled when Casey grabbed her and crowed about being alone with her for three days. I feel like she would've flirted with him in the past, but she just looked plain fed up. She was kind of flirting with him at the end, though, but I hope now that the turtles are back, she'll kind of get away from that and mature a bit as well.

It was a pretty good episode, considering that some of the recent episodes created substitutes for characters that may or may not be under Nick's copyright, is it possible that the "Deer" was based on this thing?
Spoiler:

But I also have to ask, how much do the writers actually work together and is there some kind of story editor on this show at all? Because Leo got over his leg pain last episode, the last damn episode. Not to mention Donatello getting worried about April bonding with Casey, kiss scene aside (and the beaver episode implied that scene might just have been a dream) he learned his lesson six episodes ago.
