What did I like most about TMNT 2014?

But seriously, if I REALLY have to chose something to like about this film, I liked Abby Elliott as April's roommate. Her reaction of saying "What?" when ever April said something crazy was pretty much how I felt about the entire film.

So yeah, great character from a bad movie. 11/10

I've wondered, too.

Their mutation would at least have made more sense that way if done on purpose and not via use of the same stuff - unaltered even - that somehow otherwise is expected to act as a "cure" after poisoning people. *confused*

(Or would it have turned out more like, "I, the rich business guy, saved you from the poison! Hooray! Where's my money? But now you're a talking dog, that's ok, right?")

Pretty sure it was cut out as part of the reverse-whitewashing last-second-Saki operation Platinum Dunes half-assed and slapped together. Rather than try to create new scenes and dialogue that would have made sense and fit the overall narrative, Bay and Liebesman just cut out stuff and added in, like, two throwaway lines of braindead reasoning. "Stupid rich" and "cure disease with mutation-causing ooze."

God I hate those people.

Maybe. But if so, why. Reminds me years ago when some trailer made a movie look like it had talking dogs...and then the film only had them talk just once in the main (human) character's hallucination/dream. Misleading trailers are a terrible idea.

There were a couple of characters moments in this movie that made me smile.

Raph in the back of the News Van snarking at Vernon being the first that comes to mind.

Those two movies were nothing like their trailers and yet broke box office records.

Misleading trailers are a terrible idea for the audience, great for the studio.

Yes, but not to as great an extent. Age of Ultron the movie was a lite version of its trailer, if you will. Iron Man 3 was a complete bait-and-switch.

True, but giving away The Mandarin twist in the trailer would kind of defeat the purpose. In Ninja Turtles it seemed liked Sacks being a villain was supposed to be a shock, but it was revealed long before the movie came out.

God, so much of the key plot of this movie made just... zero sense on any level. And not on a "this is silly anyway" level, either -- on an internal consistency level. Nobody involved cared one bit.

- Raphael´s dorky smile in the car at the end
- their voices
- partly the story (not the entire thing!, but the "we created heroes" thing is well thought, I think )
- Their lair looks great! Upcycling to the max
- the snow chase scene, elevator, Splinters Punishment
- how the brothers work together

Also, how does the Mutagen cure humans from a deadly toxin, yet turn four baby turtles into gigantic turtle-humanoid monsters? God forbid a human over dosed on the antidote, what they would turn into.... Wait, I think I figured out Bebop and Rocksteady's origin in the new film.

I donno, maybe it's two fold like in IDW, ooze heals and mutagen mutates, but the movie forgot to explain it, or something.

Or, the ooze mutates animals but heals humans, hence why Shredder suddenly looks completely different and younger in TMNT2.

It's like they didn't even think that part out. At all. Sacks just takes the mutagen back from giant mutant, human-like Turtles, while presumably never being tested for any use as a "cure," figures his plan is 'a go' once more, with no lab work required, and runs off intent to kill and partially save the city with stuff he has no clue if it will even work.

If their idea is that it doesn't mutate humans... I find it painful to accept humans as magic "other" beings that are unaffected by the mutation aspect. (If it specifically makes non-humans humanoid , and huge, at the very least the population of NYC should in theory become a bunch of Hulks.) At best, I don't think it would have been hard to state that there was human DNA involved in the mutagen and because of it this happened to the Turtles and Splinter as an unintended and unexpected side effect. (Because WHY would the mutations have ever been intended when you're just researching a cure for your evil plan anyhow?)

But wait... wait... it was also a "cure" for Splinter who was never drained of his. You have some, but you're possibly going to die... but here, have some more, it will save you. It's like a drunk drinking more to make it "better." Or at this point it's a bit like Alice in Wonderland Megan in Turtleland; one bite/sip injection makes you humanoid, two cures you of... something. Meanwhile three of the Turtles have lost theirs, or much of it, but nah, don't worry about it, they're fine.

It will be a smart move if the second film presumably uses a different mutagen since it will have to have a different mutating affect on B&R. (Unless they were to go with the human DNA route with the first - finally stated in the second - and suggest the Turtles are hybrids so they took that knowledge and applied DNA of other species for use on humans.)


Add this stuff to the things I like, I guess. Not that these specific things were done, what with the sense they lacked, but rather the amount of content that throws away all reason and can provide interesting thought and discussion. I'm not even ranting or "attacking" it or anything like that, it's just fun to dissect the thing.

The original storyline was that the mutagen would be used on his "Foot Soldiers" in an attempt to supe them up & give them special strength healing abilities. That goes hand in hand with using it as a cure. Only thing is, one aspect of that story was cut, & the other wasn't.

& lest anyone call BS I have concept art of failed mutated Foot Soldiers as well as a shot of April/Vern in the facility where the men are being experimented on, clearly from a scene that was cut. I'm not gonna bother posting them unless someone requests it, though. I'm lazy.
