Should Casey be mutated?

Personally, I feel that Casey should NOT be mutated. There are so many mutants on the show. That's all I have to say. Discuss below.

No-one wants Casey to be mutated so this thread is pretty pointless.

if you don't think Casey should be mutated why make this thread. Casey has never been mutated in turtles history why start now. this has got to be your stupidest thread ever

I think that a few people would like to have Casey mutated. I also want to see people discuss the possibility of it happening. That is why I created this thread.

I guess that if he had to get mutated it would probably be for just one episode, although, I feel that the Wyrm episode kinda covered at least something weird happening to him.

Ultimately though, he should stay human IMO.

As an actual thing that matters and part of the progress of the character, no.

As a way to tourture him slightly just once, for a short time, if he's been a little twit and he turns into something that really sucks in his opinion... eh, I could deal with that.

I don't think he should be mutated but if he did, he'd just think it was the coolest thing ever. He seemed perfectly fine with becoming part robot in the recent episode.

I think the mutation of the week theme is dying out and now we can just foucas on the mutants that are already mutated. There's apparently enough of them that Xever was able to create a thieves guild AND a death race tournament from it. Can we elaborate more on how that happened please?

That isn't a good enough reason not to ever. Not on its own at least.

I don't personally think Casey 'Should' be mutated, but lets play devil's advocate for a moment and go over some pros and cons:

Reasons why you could:
* It'd be very different. Like Autobot says, it hasn't been done before, so there is a genuine 'what if' scenario to play around with there.

* It potentially adds a new dimension to his character Depending on how the mutation was approached and dealt with, Casey could become permanently affected by the experience (even if later retromutated). That kind of introspection is something we dont often get from him, and would help add to his character depth (imagine if he spent an episode as a werewolf for example and for every day after that he has to keep up certain medication or he risks mutating back into one - now imagine the plot twists that could result down the line from villains taking the meds from him, or Casey willingly risking his humanity to try and save others).

* An interesting scenario Regardless of whether it 'should' be done or not, it does provide scope for at minimum an interesting episode or two. In the extreme case of permanently mutating Casey (and I'm really stretching the devils advocate role here), it does provide an evolution of a character who should play second fiddle to the turtles themselves - potentially even mutating him into a villain and a fallen hero (similar to Harvey Dent's transition into Two Face in the Batman franchise)

Reasons not to:

* Precedent It hasn't been done before, or even hinted at (unless you count a brief stint of being blue in the Wyrm ep). Casey is a well established character in the franchise and has changed only a little throughout the various iterations. There is definitely a case here for 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it'

* Is it just a gimmick? I think almost everyone on Drome will agree, Nick's show has a bad habit of taking a good idea and then abandoning it after only an episode. The OT randomly mutated April into a cat briefly, but most iterations of the turtles have become progressively more dramatically serious. To mutate him for the sake of it would be wasteful and annoying because of it. This isn't to say that it shouldn't be done necessarily, but that it shouldn't be done just because it can be.

* Casey's role Casey - alongside April - provide the viewer something very important within the franchise. They are the human face of the show, the ones we are meant to be able to relate to - the everyman/woman/person. Recently April has been shifted away from that role, which means that Casey is now the only normal human fighting for good in a world dominated by aliens, mutants and ninjas. Mutating him removes him from that role, and leaves no one in its place (though I will admit, that potentially it could be replaced with characters like Shadow, Angel or Nobody - depending on the iteration)

* Attention seeking Depending on how its done, one of my biggest issues would be that Casey is NOT the focus of the show. Mutating him will inevitably draw focus to him. If its a one shot episode, this is actually less of an issue, but if it were something more long term, it potentially draws attention to a side character away from the Turtles - our main cast.
Now a lot of this depends on how its done. Casey mutating into a villain for example wouldn't suffer so much from this - because it would still allow the Turtles to take centre stage. Equally a one shot or even two parter episode wouldn't be long enough to make it an issue. But if it was a long term thing, it forces the show to then take the step of focusing on Casey to showcase his new powers and abilities - which WILL draw screentime and potentially make Casey the apparent 'hero' in place of the turtles.
Karai's arc has followed a similarly risky pattern, and did draw a lot of plot arc from Season 3, but it at least had the advantage that she was a villain and didn't need to be on screen much.

That's my 2 pence anyway Personally I can see some appeal and some ideas for how you 'could' mutate Casey, but I think that overall its not worth it.

I'll admit it, I'd love to finally see Octopus Casey Jones happen:
http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2011/...3-ralston.html

Knowing Nick Casey, he'd probably be delighted with the extra arms. It made for a great mascot for at least one professional ice hockey team.

I agree that Casey should not be mutated for the sake of the experience. As Tarris pointed out, Casey is supposed to be the normal every man of the series who fights along side the Turtles to save humans from threats such as the Foot Clan.

And having him be mutated just ruins even for one episode does ruin his character, particularly with how unpredictable the mutagen actually is. Look at Kirby, when he mutated he was turned into feral minded man bat. And when he was mutation was reversed he was confused over what had just happened to him, which begs the question: Has he lost all memory of when he was a mutant, or he doesn't remember because he doesn't want to remember?

However if the show does choose to Mutate Casey temporarily I think he may be the opposite of Timothy.

In the Pulverizers appearances he reveals that he saw the Turtles fighting Baxter Stockman. So he essentially want to be a super hero simply because it looked cool, without taking into consideration the responsibility and sacrifice that comes with it.

Then later when he is told he is to have mutagen tested on him. He jumps at the chance believing that as a mutant he would have cool powers and abilities. Despite the fact Donnie was warning him that becoming a mutant would not bring him any happiness.

In Casey's case he becomes a vigilantly because we know he's seen Mutagen Man and Robot Ninja attacking April. And he's grown up with the crime of the city, and he's not unfamiliar with the Alien attacks as he did mention the Technodrome invasion from season 1. So he feels that someone needs to take a stand against the threats to the city alien, mutant, and thug alike.

In Casey Jones Vs. The Underworld, Casey does express some discontent over the fact the Turtles saved the city from the Kraang, but he himself was left sitting on the sidelines. And at the end of the episode, he did comment that he would still act on his own then as a team player.

So he would understand that Mutations were not something he should personally desire. After all April probably explained what happened to her father after Casey met the Turtles. And then of course there's Mondo Gecko who was abandoned by his own parents after he was mutated.

So if he was by chance Mutated it would have to be accidental. I.E. Falling or being hit by mutagen during a battle. But Donnie knows how to make Retromutagen now so Casey wouldn't be a mutant for long, unless they some how tie that to an enemy learning about the Retromutagen. In the end Donnie still would have to restore Casey to human again, even if it means essentially saying good bye to any hope of being more then just a friend to April.

I think my answer would be NOOOOO! At least, not for more than a single episode.

I'm kinda tired of every human character on the Nick show being destined to either be mutated or turn out to be an alien. I think they need to give new mutants a rest for awhile.

I don't know.... if he was mutated, would he promise to stop saying how "Metal" everything is? If he would, then it just may be worth it!

Considering we really don't get an idea on the pain the mutants feel, especially with the contradictions towards anyone associated with Shredder, no Casey shouldn't be mutated. It's already irritating enough we have enough mutants, established in franchise lore or not, but it just doesn't sit well. There's several mutants that deserve proper spotlight time, not reducing Jones to being a mutant for whoever knows how long.

In addition, it does make me think of the April situation. The turmoil with her being half Kraang and Karai as the daughter of Splinter never really got fully addressed, more on the former. The powers aren't entirely addressed too fluently and we know little on how April reacted other than that particular episode; Casey didn't even budge when he saw that psychic blast. Karai is similar in that regard that Leo contradicted himself for a brief period, especially when dueling Karai in Target: April O'Neil.

Unless you wanna make a Canadian mutant for Casey for hockey, () there's no point in mutating him. It's never been done before so the possibility is in the wake, but given the contradictions with previous mutants and even April, best to leave Casey as the arrogant punk he'll be. I'd rather he actually grow a hero, which he really hasn't done too well; focus on that and then maybe there's potential. For now, I say no.

There are all sorts of good reasons to say no but I can't seriously say I don't want to see someone mutated in a turtle show.

A one time thing might be good.

It...also might be doable if he didn't mutate into a full monster, just gained powers (and maybe blue hair or something ) just to keep up with the other characters. That or we go a route similar to Karai and give him a second form that he can call upon.

Like I said, all sorts of reasons to let him remain a normal human but...well I couldn't say I'd be offended.

Good ideal, lets have Casey get a slap on the back by a manly man.

Than when Jones gets mutated, he turns into the 1980's Casey Jones. That would be so cool. Or the Movie Jones from the first movie. That would be a improvement imo.
