What if Luke impregnated The Force, to give birth to Rey? If The Force can impregnate women, why not the other way around?

Star Wars passed the inflated domestic total of Avatar at 837 million and will have approximately 862 million by tomorrow's projections. It finally fell out of first by about five million this weekend to the surprising Oscar favorite The Revenant in its second wide release week and new film Ride Along 2.

SNL sucks these days, but I did catch a sketch that went viral wirh Kylo Ren participating in Undercover Boss.

I finally saw the movie and thought it was very good. But it'll take a while for it to sink in and let the hype die (not to mention rewatch it a dozen more times), so its hard to put my thoughts together. Most of what I think has already been said in this thread, but overall:

- Daisy Ridley did a fantastic job as Rey. She was the highlight of the film besides Harrisson Ford, and while I can understand some of the complaints that she was "too perfect" I can put them aside because her acting was great and we got to see her get out of trouble on her own. Her chemistry with Finn was also really good.

- Harrison Ford was great, he never lost it after all these years. Its sad the way he had to go (they couldn't even retrieve his body, and Leia only has a few brief scenes of mourning), but oh well. I wonder if Han solo would have been kept alive through Episode 9 if Harrison Ford didn't want him to be killed off. Either way it fits with tradition of someone dying in the first film of every trilogy, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gonn, now Han.

- Finn was pretty good and had some funny moments. Poe was alright from what we saw of him. Kylo Ren has potential, but I'm not sure what to think of him yet. His scene with his father was the best part of the film.

Overall though I'm surprised the movie didn't have much "down" time. They were basically moving from one action-packed set piece to the next, with the only real time to relax at the alien bar, and even that was short-lived. The orange alien lady reminded me of someone from Pixar films or the prequel trilogy, I can't explain it, she definitely seemed there for the "kid audience" especially with those glasses.

Also, why re-use the same landscape for all the planets? We have Jakku which looks exactly like Tattooine, the forest planet that looked exactly like Endor, and the snow planet which looked like Hoth. I was half expecting them to re-use cloud city at one point. Its like they were hitting on every major area. The flight scenes and action scenes were all well done.

The villains were underused, but that won't matter as I'm sure we'll see more of them in the next film. Not sold on Snoke at all yet, he feels like a Star Trek alien or someone from a Marvel movie. Luke only getting one brief scene at the end was also surprising because of that scene in the trailer where he's talking to Rey and that was cut from the film.

I kinda wish Harrison Ford got a better sendoff. Or at least more scenes with him and Rey talking. Overall it was a very good first movie in the new trilogy, with a few shortcomings that won't matter once the next movie fleshes out the villains, Rey, and Luke more.

I personally thought it was odd that she wanted to bang Chewbacca. Outer space is freaky, y'all.

That wasn't a scene from the movie. It was just dialogue from ROTJ used for the trailer.

True. It was reworked and recorded at a studio a few days ahead of the trailer's release. It is also the strongest evidence that Rey is Luke's daughter.

Is there any particular reason they didn't have Finn wake up by the end of the movie? They just had Han's death, we didn't need another main character's fate ambiguous by the movies end. I mean everyone knows Finn is in the next movie, but in terms of the in-universe perspective it would have been better if he had awake.

I'm also glad the whole attack on the "new Death Star" was mostly kept in the background rather than being a major part of the climax like it was in the other films. I would have been rolling my eyes if another climax of a Star Wars film dealt with an attack on a Death Star, so I'm glad most of that was kept on the background action while the focus was on the Rey/Finn fight with Kylo Ren.

Its kind of sad knowing the "happy ending" of episode 6 is now undone. I know we had the EU comics for years, but in terms of the movies knowing that the big victory over Vader/Emperor didn't change much and the galaxy is still at war with the empire 40+ years later is kinda disappointing.

I guess war, war never changes.

More on "Where's Rey?"

Quote:
The insider, who was at those meetings, described how initial versions of many of the products presented to Lucasfilm featured Rey prominently. At first, discussions were positive, but as the meetings wore on, one or more individuals raised concerns about the presence of female characters in the Star Wars products. Eventually, the product vendors were specifically directed to exclude the Rey character from all Star Wars-related merchandise, said the insider.

“We know what sells,” the industry insider was told. “No boy wants to be given a product with a female character on it.”

Its rather baffling they can exclude making toys of the main character of the film. Literally makes no sense.
