In this case, they can mostly get away with it. All three of these characters hardly felt like characters in the previous film. The Shredder was mostly a CG character, which wouldn't be a big deal if he felt like a full-fledged characters as the Turtles did. I never felt like anybody was inside that suit and the actor who played him when he was outside of the suit was a last minute addition to the film and just felt like a quick fix, subbing for the original plot involving Sachs being the Shredder. Plus, I prefer the ninja aspect of the Foot, so for me this is a very welcoming change.

Baxter was barely even a character in the last film, so most people won't even notice that change.

Why would they assume anything about your observational skills/intelligence level other than "very poor"?

Well, he was bald before right? and then he got arrested. Last time I heard there were no barber shops in prison, we don't know if they shaved his hair when he got in but he still could've grown it, we don't know how long he's been in that truck. He also has some scars, not really like the ones in the first movie but maybe he got some 'scar-b-gone' or concealer from the ladies (or men) in jail. Also he may be shorter than in the first movie but maybe he got dwarfism in jail....

lets be honest here, I have no ****ing idea why Bay thinks we wont notice Shredder is different. Like seriously look at this comparison (sorry for large pics):

Sure, the movie does feature Shredder, Karai and Baxter. And I guess technically Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady are featured in comics, just not the TMNT comic, presumably the one they're talking about.

Are most people confused about the different comics or do they just assume the Fred Wolf cartoon isn't quite as loose of an adaptation as it is?

It doesn't help when the people creating this talk as if it's comic accurate. Either they too haven't done their homework or they do know better but marketing this as a comic book movie is much more sell-able (especially in the era of comic book movies) than saying it's based on a Saturday morning cartoon.

Also, unrelated to the above post... I'm no big fan of these movies, but yeesh this board is toxic towards fans of the films, misguided though they may be.

That is some strong mutagen, almost turning even Shredder human. Almost, because clearly it didn't work on the inside.

It's not hard to explain that the mutagen in the canister that broke in Shredder's hand regenerated him from a scarred 90 year old man to a hunky 39 year old. Especially when it was established Splinter needed mutagen to heal his wounds or whatever.

(even-though Splinter would by the movie's logic already have mutagen in his body as the bad guys 1 way of getting mutagen was draining mutants that mutated from mutagen... but that's just important details that Liebsman/Bay don't care about)

They will most likely not reference any of the events from the last movie. Shredder is just back and that's it. No Eric Sacks. No mention of the origin or backstory. That's my theory.
