I don't believe this was posted yet -- some more analysis and statistics from Box Office Pro:

Quote:
Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows took first place at the box office this weekend with an estimated $35.25 million, though representing a huge decline over its prequel. The fantasy action sequel starring Megan Fox started on Friday with $12.5 million (including $2.0 million from Thursday night previews), increased 4 percent to $13.00 million on Saturday, and declined 25 percent on Sunday to $9.75 million. This places its 3-day weekend to Friday ratio at an estimated 2.82 to 1.

Yet despite its first place finish, the box office includes some disappointing statistics as well. Adjusted for inflation, Out of the Shadows had the all-time worst opening weekend for a film opening in 4,000+ theaters, below the previous low of 2013’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Shadows also starts 46.2 percent behind the $65.57 million opening of its prequel, 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — and that film opened in August, when films usually open lower than they do in June. In fact, adjusted for inflation, Shadows opened below the openings for 1990’s original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 1991’s sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II. Shadows did at least start 45.3 percent higher than the $24.25 million opening weekend of 2007’s TMNT, the failed first attempt to reboot the franchise.

And even the final point isn't much to brag about since TMNT 2007 had a budget of 34 million, it was probably never intended to make much money, Out of the Shadows had a budget that was four times bigger.

I just remembered that Pacific Rim opened with $37.3 million in 2013, which is $2 million more than TMNT: Out of the Shadows, and it went on to gross $101 million in North America and a worldwide total of $411 million. It also had a budget of $190 million. Today, they've just officially announced a sequel with John Boyega as the lead.

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/new...rim-2#/slide/1

If TMNT: Out of the Shadows can perform similarly to Pacific Rim, then we may still get a third film.

Yeah, and it was(sadly) a disappointment at the box office.

A semi-original, giant robot/kaiju movie with no familiar characters and mostly character actors with no huge movie stars.

Compared to something like Ninja Turtles, a friggin cultural phenom for 30 years.

And their box offices were very similar.

Your point just made BayTurtles 2 sound like an even BIGGER disappointment/failure.

An... interesting... quote from this Variety piece:

Quote:
“Audiences are challenging us to make excellent movies,” said Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures, the studio behind “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” “The fact that it’s part of a franchise or sequel doesn’t let you off the hook. You need to raise the bar and make the story exciting, compelling and fun.”
Unsure if this quote is from after this weekend or before, mind you... but the timing makes it seem like an admission that they screwed up here.

From what I hear...the film doesn't have fight scenes, Martial Arts, Shredder sounds like he's barely in it, Turtles dialogue is just exposition, they don't have 'actual brotherly interactions (for example Mikey pranking Raph, etc.)' or heart/care with each other, the 'being turned into humans' idea goes nowhere...

But it's a fantastic film? I'm not posting it to belittle people. I just don't get that.

And Please don't say because 'Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang are in it' and that's it.

Because that's the only reasons I keep hearing. The only ones. Anyway, I know that's not what the topic is at hand, so I apologize.

But again...I just don't get it...

Hey, what happened to Whoopi's character in this one? And the Turtlevan from the end of the last "film"?

And they don't hit anyone with their weapons. That's... kind of concerning.

Apparently it's very much as simple as that for a lot of people. It's unfortunate.

The Turtle Van was smaller, The Turtle Truck was a much bigger upgrade, lots of more room for all the tech.

Man, the past 15 years I've been dreaming of PG-13 Turtles movies... now we have them but there's little to no violence. Plenty of physics defying bufoonery though. At least there's that...

Right? Remember how everyone was doubting the last PD movie would even get break out of the PG mold?

And it still failed at the box office. Must not be that "fantastic."

Loooong time coming since the first one sucked so hard.

Yeah, I think they would be PG if not for the mild language. Seems weird to have "son of a bitch", "bad ass" and "sh*t" being uttered within this kiddie fare.

Overall I think the Nick toon is more mature. Certainly 10 times more violent.

If it's performing far below expectations and the studio is apparently acknowledging as much... yeah, sorry, that means someone screwed up.

First, you did read the beginning part where I typed "From What I Hear", correct?

Second, then Please 'school me' on each point I mentioned.

Floor is yours, feel free. Not even in a harsh way. I'm being dead serious. Feel free to fully explain aka School Me on each of those points.

Yeah if it wasn't for the swearing, the movie was definitely a lighter tone than the Nick toon.

If there is going to 3rd movie or reboot, I would like the tone to be similar to the Nick toon but a bit more gritty/violent.
