kevin eastman said we'd love thefirst one, so he's not the best judge of what is good for the turtles these days.

I love kevin and his free spirit... but it's almost tooo free. he's the one who said we'd love the first one, and gave us the worst turtle comic ever created, bodycount, imho.

I don't think he's the best judge to go by with turtle approval. he'd give just a bout any idea a go, i think.

I would agree with you, except on the opinion of the worst TMNT comic ever. Bodycount is terrible, but by no means the absolute worst.

That dubious honor belongs to Volume 4 #22.

I want to say that I saw some Eastman concept art for Casey for TMNT2. I remember thinking it was odd because it looked like any other Casey drawing by Eastman.

Hm. Does sort of sound like he's mostly just covering his butt, but really, who wouldn't at that point. Don't know about trying to point at Eastman though, like, "He said it was okay, don't blame me." No... you came up with the stuff.

The biggest issue really from my viewing experience is that the story is simply weak. It has good bones, but the plot fumbles, the motivations for things is lacking, and experienced ADD when including Shredder and Karai.

Maybe if they'd made the film a little longer they could have fit in important details that would have helped.

Such as Krang's motivations with Earth to begin with.
Spoiler:
What is interesting though is, having found the novelization book the other night and started reading a little of it last night, it's interesting to see what is different from the film.

In the book... Krang actually does have a motivation. In the book his location is the last living planet in Dimension X; he has 'consumed' all the others (in what way is unknown), leaving them barren, and he's looking for another... his sights set on Earth.

Yet the film includes no such detail to give us any reason for it. It would not have taken long to include that bit of info.

Sounds pretty weak to me. What is Krang, Galactus now?

I just want to know why these TMNT movies are horrified at the notion of showing the turtles fighting Shredder with martial arts vs. martial arts for longer than 20 seconds. I want to see the clause that must be in all TMNT movie contracts which forbids a decent Shredder and Turtles fight.

That Brad Fuller interview is just eye rolling. The whole "you can't please everyone" line is such a cop out for not even trying. Can you imagine if every other movie studio thought this way about their comic properties?

I doubt there's any TMNT fan out there that only approaches a TMNT movie with only knowledge of only one version, even if they only really care about one version.

I can try and find the link if you like but there was a podcast that interviewed Kevin where he said he wasn't as involved in Out of the Shadows as he was for the 2014 movie.

I don't really know about either of this.

Sure, it's easy to have the view that Kevin is okay with everything but he's not in a position to veto anything. If he was in charge I think he would exercise his own personal tastes. As it stands his job as it relates to TMNT is a spokesperson for the brand and he isn't going to say anything but how great it all is regardless of how he may actually feel.

On the flip side Laird can be seen as a guy who nixes anything that doesn't fit what he sees as true to his vision largely based on the fact he seemingly vetoed a lot of the 80s animated/toyline characters and elements from appearing in the '03 show. That being said it seems he and Lloyd Goldfine at least were on the same page in this respect but he did (after a lot of persuading apparently) allow a concept like Ch'rell so it's not like he's totally closed to non-Mirage based stuff.

Bodycount is a fun romp.

V4 #22 is well told and a tribute to two classic TMNT stories. I remember vividly speculation on what April's secret origin would be with a lot of fanboy kewl theories thrown about such as her being an alien or a bomb and ub the end the answer was something steeped in classic TMNT lore. One wonders why April had to have a secret origin in the first place and even Laird seems to regret if the comments on his blog are anything to go by but it's hardly a character destroying thing in itself.

Not that I'd ever want to see either represented in other TMNT media but they are hardly worthy of scorn. At least in my opinion.

Galactus wouldn't be as dumb to leave himself with nothing to consume. Then again his whole purpose (up until recently) was to bring some cosmic balance to the universe.

Sooooooooo...

Looks like it's been juuuuuust about 2 weeks now...still no official word on a sequel.

Critics hated it, just like the first one, audiences either didn't care or didn't like it all, based on audience score on RT AND the box office.

I've got this coffin here I've been working on and I've been waiting for JUST THE RIGHT MOMENT to put this one last nail in there.

...

Should I do it? Guys, should I put that final nail in the coffin?

Brad Fuller...his interview is one Gigantic Load of PR BS.

“There’s nothing that we can do to keep them from complaining."

Martial Arts. Have the Turtles look like what the Ninja Turtles have looked like for the Majority of their Span. Don't have Megan Fox. Treat the Characters as Actual Characters (*cough* what Marvel does with Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, etc. *cough*). Don't have Dick and Fart Jokes. Give The Turtles Family Moments (Raph giving Mikey a noogie. Mikey playing a prank on Raph or calling him 'Raphie/Raphie-boy' for fun...things to make them seem like an actual family).

Yep...that certainly sounds like 'nothing' that can be done to 'keep them from complaining'...

"There’s always an element of the audience that feels that we have not struck that balance."

Mr. Fuller...look at the scores, reviews, ratings, and fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America flicks, and so forth. Most of the audience felt that those movies 'struck that balance'. If you can't do that? Then that's your own dumbass fault...not the audience.

"So there are people who will come to our movie and have only read the comics, and they’ll have one response, whereas people…who love the cartoon will love our film, because that tonally matches the cartoon."

Aside from the Dick Jokes, the Fart Jokes, the Turtles looking like Super CHUDs, April looking like a slutty schoolgirl, and so forth...but yeah, it's the cartoon just because it has a Bebop, Rocksteady, etc.

"And there are people who saw the [90’s] films and they’re coming to it that way."

Yes...the way of 'those films were Actually Good.'

"So it’s a challenge to balance those three source materials."

Those 3? There's nothing '90s films' or 'comic book' related to this one. So how the hell are you balancing those Three? I'm sure you meant 'that one that we were trying for, the 80s cartoon'.

"The thing that we do to try and really decipher what the best story is, we keep Kevin Eastman involved in the process of development, and Kevin created the turtles with Peter Laird. I feel like if he’s there and he gives us the thumbs up with our story and the thumbs up with our villains, that we’re – y’know? If the creator is telling us that it can work, then we go with it; if he says ‘well, I think you’re deviating a little far here, let’s pull it back,’ we do that."

No you're not. Someone I know met Kevin one time after the 2014 film. The guy asked Kevin 'what was up with that movie'...and all Kevin could do was shake his head and had nothing to say.

Also Do people forget that this is The Same Kevin Eastman that said that the Turtles would fight like The Raid Redemption and Fist of Legend in interviews? And yet we should buy into anything Kevin says? Why?

Giving fans an 80's TMNT adaption where some fans are kind of sick of it's pandering or casuals who only remember it in passing was a terrible idea. A straight Mirage film as begrudge as I am to admit, will probably run into a similar issue. The 90's gave people something they didn't even know they wanted which would probably be the best policy when rebooting the series.

**** you Fuller (and in turn, TigerClaw). I personally LOVE the Fred Wolf cartoon, but these movies are still ugly, stupid and pretty boring.

My God! Did he seriously say that?!? Even the devil himself would hesitate before spouting a lie that big! My biggest complaint is how lacking the fights are. If they had even 1/10 of the choreography that "The Raid" had, I would be singing this movie's praises. Hell "Secret Of The Ooze" had better fight scenes than this movie did. And these turtle beasts are so damn large, they feel unstoppable. Just one of them could sit on Shredder and crush him.

“There’s nothing that we can do to keep them from complaining."

You could try making a good movie? Y'know, that thing you've never once done in your career? Try doing that.

The "blame the fans" tactic is nothing new for these guys, but the degree of it, combined with the timing, is... interesting. I wonder if there are some conversations with Paramount going on? Because this isn't just the fans. This is most people. Between the box office results and various audience scores/reviews, it seems that most people either didn't care enough to see it or didn't much care for it when they did, so no, I don't think you can blame the fans here, Brad.

Though I gotta say -- I do find it funny when fellow fans fall all over themselves to protect the precious millionaire producers from those nasty ol' fans' valid criticisms.

Still only read through the first few chapters. Up to that point, most other differences and/or added details so far are minor. At most so far the biggest thing is probably that the book opens on Halloween (not them scaling a building for unknown reasons) and Mikey interacts with people a bit more... and manages to freak some kids out.

Curiously, there is a hint of him dressed as a pirate, as one kid asks what he's supposed to be and he says he's a pirate and points to an eye patch; but it's unknown to the reader until he says/does this.

Will prob go through a lot more of it after work. Curious to see what else there is. Wish they'd put the original script out for comparison to both film and book.

Here's a new interview I found of Brad Fuller

KILL-FREE ZONE: Hollywood producer Brad Fuller explains why the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie contains no killing.

It might be the case with some films, but making the second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie involved a lot more that shoving the brand in one end of the Hollywood movie machine and grinding out a cash-in sequel.

In this interview, producer Brad Fuller - who works with partner Andrew Form on the films in conjunction with Michael Bay - explains just how much planning went into making a film they hope is not just a case of "more of the same".

Their intent this time around was to punch up the film's New York identity and to make it a more family-friendly film than the first. This involved them making a brave decision: plenty of action but no killing.

As one of Hollywood's most successful mainstream producers, Fuller is also open about just how deeply you need to read into a film about four superhero turtles.

Sure we don't get confirmation, but if the person/people hit by the giant nunchucks didn't die, they're even more invincible than the Turtles.

Still, I can give them credit for trying harder in some regards, and in those ways it worked pretty well; the Turtles were much better, and Bebop and Rocksteady are fairly well received. But it's like the writers just don't multitask well... focus on one thing, and another thing falters, that being the major storyline.

But seriously. They need to stop putting their foot in their mouths. Megan Fox loves that sequence? "To us it shows that she's a gorgeous creature. And that's good to have in a movie"?

*sigh* Seriously? Sir, if you don't understand why this is eye rolling, as is also your fumbling though this answer to try to justify it... add a woman to the writing team. Really.
