Agreed. Better to have no TMNT movies for a while than to have PD continue to make them.

Again, were not just talking about for a while. Think about it, tmnt 07 wasnt widley recieved, now 2014 and 16 werent either. Just looking at it from a corperate stand point, michael bay, while his movies are always hated on, they still bring in money. So if you take a franchise that production companys didnt want to touch in the first place, give it to someone who is known to make money, and it still fails, then that just shows tmnt has no real revenue in the movie verse. Even spiderman 3 made a killing its opening weekend and while people hated it, companys seen it was able to get butts in the seats, wich is why it was rebooted. Turtles on the other hand hasnt done that since 1990. This was just kinda the nail in the coffin, not just for pd, but for tmnt in general. Thanks to this movies massive failure, people are gonna feel as if the tmnt hype is no more.

TMNT is a niche market while Transformers is a lot more well known

Transformers does really well, because people just wanna see robots kicking ass, people often associate giant robots with big explosions and stuff.

TMNT is a lot trickier to make it due to the stigma that it's a kids property, you have to blame Nickelodeon for that.

Nickelodeon? The Viacom faction that produces a TMNT show twice as mature as the last movie?

I wouldn't blame them, I'd still blame Fred Wolf.

Oh sure, let's blame Nickelodeon, AKA the network that currently features a hit TMNT animated series, despite the fact that Platinum Dunes only had one job, and that was to make a good Ninja Turtles film.

Which they've failed at. Twice in a row, I might add.

You really don't know how these things work, do you TigerClaw?

Understatement of the year.

It seems obvious the PD version of this movie franchise is done. I'm wondering how bad this will hurt the franchise's viability for future movies. Maybe we'll get some animated movies but I think it's going to be a while before we get anither live action movie.

We wont be getting another movie after that headline. Thats pretty much a wrap on tmnt movies altogether

What Nickelodeon could do, is make a CGI movie based on there version of the series.

You have absolutely no proof of that.

Worst case scenario, we just have to wait a couple of years before someone tries again.

Such pessimism, guys. There's a headline for everything. This movie is a giant flop, but it's not the end of the world. It's going to turn a profit, it's gonna sell some toys, and it's not nearly as expensive to make as a Transformers film.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely afraid that there won't be a sequel, but I wouldn't call it, yet. I'm not expecting some miraculous turnaround from China, but they account for a very big chunk of the cash a movie like this makes. I'm not going to be surprised either way, whether they make a third, or drop it.

As far as the film franchise, itself, being set aside, I just don't see it. Turtles are big business. Next time you're in Walmart or Target, go down the toy aisle and take note of just how big the Turtles section is. And has been for years. It rivals Marvel. Transformers doesn't come close. BvS doesn't come close. They are among the hottest toys, every Christmas. This wasn't true last time the movie franchise was put on ice.

You have to understand, that trying to get a movie made of tmnt isnt the easiest thing to do in hollywood. Production companys seem to think its not a money maker to the masses. At least Im sure ive read how everytime they set out to make a turtle movie their hard pressed to get a company behind them on the idea cause the corperate heads think the concept is retarded and dont want to take a chance with them. And after this movies faliure it will only confirm this in the corpeate eye

China doesn't account for as much cash to the studio as you think due to exchange rates and tariffs. Box offices are higher there than a lot of regions but they don't get the return from it like they do elsewhere.

I know they had some deal with a Chinese film company for the distribution there so that could help the amount of money they see from China. Warcraft will be saved from China because Legendary is owned by a Chinese corporation now.

Your right. And i know very little about these things and im not trying to claim otherwise. I just know what ive read and seen in other interviews about the way hollywood sees the turtle franchise. The 2007 movie in an interview with the director said it was a strugle to get production companys to fund the movie, 1990 was the same and even pd had stated how hard it was to get the project off the ground and get companys to back them when starting. I hope im wrong but doubt that i am

The 1990 movie was made independently of the studios, cause nobody wanted to make a TMNT movie.

Perhaps the only way to make a TMNT film, is the indie route.

TMNT has been dead before. Deader than this. The 2014 movie's financial success showed that there's interest in Ninja Turtles movies -- it was its bad reviews and weak audience reception, along with the same for this movie (and its financial underperformance) that likely killed this particular series.

If our only options are "the TMNT movies go away for a while" or "support complete garbage", then I'll gladly take the former. There will be a reboot eventually. This property always comes back. But letting the PD movies define the property does it a lot more damage in the long run, IMO.

If you want to blame anything for giving TMNT the "stigma that it's a kids property", look no further than these guys:

A sad thing is the negative impact of the movie might mean Nick will cancel the cartoon after the 5th season and maybe even drop their license with IDW. I can't imagine them making much profit from IDW comic (since they share sales with IDW), and the cartoon may not go on after the 5th season.

What a shame.

Holy crap! This coming from you, the guy who constantly claimed the show would go on for at least seven seasons?

Actually the comics and cartoons will still go on even after they haven't done any movies, right after TMNT 3 from 1993, they were still doing comics, the 80s cartoon was still going strong, plus the Konami video games.

TMNT will still survive with or without movies.

The Fred Wolf series lasted for 10 seasons, half of those seasons were after TMNT 3 came out, and way past 1993.

If anything, the Nickelodeon cartoon is the reason these movies may not die.

Nick's overhead is so low for the comic though. They basically just pay like 3 people to approve everything, and IDW does the rest.
