Matt Reeves opts out directing this. To me it sounds like WB is pushing this movie to get made ASAP even though the script sucks.

DC right now:

I don't know what's more entertaining: WB having trouble finding a director for this film or Cubed's meltdowns.

Was he just not interested in the project? Or was he pissed at the politics and incompetence? Hmm...

Based on that report it seems pretty clear WB just wants a by-the-numbers director who has no vision and will do what the studio wants. They're trying to rush this movie into production despite having a ****** script because it's Batman and they think it'll make money no matter what.

What. a. mess.
There's so much egg on DC's face it's like watching the end of a bukkake flick. |

And I think the bubble will burst - maybe even by 2020. Hugh Jackman is leaving the X-Men next month, and as such, not a tear will be shed if Fox cancels all X-films ever. The MCU is having a two-part Avengers movie event about the Infinity Gaunlet where I imagine the Avengers as we know them will sort of be broken down or disassembled. No one is interested in Snyder's crap at all. I feel like audiences have already passed the highest point of the bell curve in terms of enjoying the novelty of the 'single-continuity films' experience - now they're waiting for conglomeration, convergence, a sort of finality. DC is just way too late and way too blunderous to play the game. And don't get me started on Universal's cinematic universe. |

The thing is even if the superhero movie market bursts, there will still be Batman movies. Batman existed far before the superhero genre exploded and will be here long after. I just really wanted at least one full Batman movie with Ben Affleck as Batman.
I was blown away by his parts in Batman/Superman. |

I think it went kind of like this:
* Ben Affleck agreed to do script, obviously star in, and possibly direct. If he likes the script. In fact they want him to direct. * WB bombards Affleck with a bunch of notes -- "Harley was hot in Suicide Squad! We have Shazam coming up too! We need to add this and this and this character into The Batman script to set up these 12 other movies! And by the way, can you still make the deadline?" * Affleck throws hands up, says I can't do that, but if someone else can crack the script and it works, maybe I'll direct. * Script comes back, sucks. Affleck is not directing. * Reeves is courted. Same story. They want to make The Batman into Iron Man 2. Nothing sells better than Batman, and WB is trying to cement their cinematic universe with it by throwing in a bunch of crap that doesn't need to be there. The good news? Apparently the Geoff Johns half (or whatever) of the Affleck script is in the shredder.

They'd be much better off just treating JL like the end of a trilogy made up of that, Man of Steel and BVS, and just reboot

That's actually the best way to go about it, honestly. Aquaman and Wonder Woman causes a bit of a ruffle but yeah, I think JL:2 should be their swan song. Then try again without Snyder.

Keeping the actors is fine...none of Hugh Jackman's solo Wollverine movies are set in the same specific continuity and it did'nt stop him |

Is JL2 still happening?
I wrote about this before but DC's biggest problem is they don't have faith in themselves and are quick to change things because of what they think the consumer wants and they end up messing up their original vision and making a mess which is what this is becoming. We saw it how they got cold feet after Superman Returns, Green Lantern, Man of Steel and pretty much every movie since. They waited how many years after GL and MoS to make this mess of a "Cinematic Universe" when they should've just continued from GL which was their plan all along. BvS has plenty of flaws but I liked it and thought it could easily be fixed with later movies but here we go they panicked after the bad reviews and have probably made too many changes that affect their original vision and also won't appeal to the people they wanted to appeal to either. I think Snyder makes awesome movies even if plot is usually his weakest link. I think they should just stick to their original plan instead of modifying it everytime a movie underperforms/gets bad reviews since it's only making the universe worse off. I was all in on the DCEU despite its flaws until all these reports of DC panicking, screw them. |

Wasn't the original plan to shoot JL and JL2 back to back?
Now I think plans for a second are a pipe dream. I'll be surprised if JL1 manages to break even. |

Wonder Woman and Aquaman are obviously coming out and nearly done shooting. But I don't expect Flash or Cyborg to be made.
If Wonder Woman is good I can see it getting a standalone sequel. |

Has a Green Lantern been cast to play Hal Jordan yet? I know there have been many teases. I don't understand the hold up. Sure, the 2011 film wasn't a hit(I liked it though) but that shouldn't make people skeptical of the inclusion of Hal Jordan.
