Them being all blood brothers raises more questions than I like, I don't think any show or movie has ever made it explicit that they're real brothers either. Ambiguous at best which I guess works out, we can all believe what we want unless the show specifies it like in TNM and in Rise.

I just feel these types of shows to be accepted feel better as ambiguous "Sequels" sort of like The Next Mutation, we know other stuff happened before but we don't care. When it's a complete retelling with this many changes it's never accepted.

I just imagined 4 were born together and were sharing the same habitat, so all 4 were bought... don't get me wrong I see your point and I don't want to into the details or how many eggs a turtles lays at once etc... you may be right.. I just assumed they were and maybe it just isn't meant to be complicated.
However, as you said about confirmation, I don't know that it has been confirmed anywhere that they are (not familiar enough with all incarnations)

TMNT are trying to defend the designs on Twitter, to be fair we haven't see the reveal yet, Paulsen is meant to be going into all the characters, well the ones we know about maybe.

The designs, as well as many aspects of the show, give me a very "Next Mutation" vibe, but that might be fine since it's in animation and not shoddy costumes. I could see myself getting used to these designs, though I question switching out their signature weapons; it seems like another change for the sake of change. It also reminded me of the fifth season of the 2003 show, and that was my favorite season, so who knows, it could be good. The only design I outright hate is Splinter's, who looks like what he would look like if MAD did a TMNT parody. I'm also not a fan of April's, who kind of looks like a black Janine from Real Ghostbusters. Overall, it's a lot better than I thought it would be, so I'll reserve my final judgement until I see it in motion.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm a little less impressed by the designs overall but I still find them serviceable.

Surprisingly, the one I have the least problem is with is Raphael despite his bulkiness. He looks just right to me and I would like to see him in the leader role this time, he looks dominating and confident enough for the part.

Donatello, despite also having PD elements, looks just fine to me. I also like how he looks more mature and older than his brothers.

Then there is Mikey and Leonardo, and this is where I start to disapprove of some of the design choices.

First of all, they're not all bad, I'm totally down with Mikey's design being based off his look from the 2012 series, and I love Leonardo being a red eared slider.

However, that doesn't make up for my biggest problem with these two that they are just too skinny for my taste. Look, I get that this is something we often see in cartoons with an angular art style, but with these guys being mutant turtles with above average strength, wouldn't you expect something more than sticks for arms and legs?

Can you imagine how awkward this Leonardo would look compared to his counterparts? They all aren't overall PD level bulky, but theres still muscle in all of them dammit.



As for April and Splinter, I actually like them. While I could do l without April's glasses and hair style, I really like that she's a redhead again and I think the Rise crew really succeeded in delivering an April who's black.

Splinter may come across as a bit scary looking in his design, but that seems intentional to me considering he's usually superior to all 4 turtles combined and is supposed to scare them when they're slacking off. I could totally see Eric Bauza's Tiger Claw voice fittng that Splinter and do an intimidating yet caring sensei.

The livestream is about to air in a hour so I look forward to that, and I hope we also get Baron Draxum's design.

FredWolf gotta agree on the Leo's, I wasn't overly keen on the 2007's but that was more their heads/faces not the shape of the body.

I liked the build of the 2003s, but I'd have preferred a less Bulky shell like the 2012's

Besides, these Turtles are so very different from any previous version we kinda need to see their take on how these guys came to be.

The designs themselves actually aren't bad. They're sleek. They're improved from the look from that expo leak.

That's actually an interesting idea. This gets them out of the "why do they have different colored skin" and massively different body types thing. This does, however, substantially change the origin. There's no way some kid had all 4 of those kind of turtles in a bowl together. The snapping turtle alone would kill all of the others... they can't even be around other snapping turtles.

Do you think that this is for kid friendliness, also make them magic so that the enemy gets hit with 'powers' rather than struck with a weapon? I suppose I can't really speculate at this point, they may have just added powers for something different.

Hard to speculate. We know that Nick doesn't have any problem with Mike having nunchuks and Raphael having sai because that's what they have in the last cartoon and the last two movies... yet they did tell us they're "going younger" with this new show. There's no reason Raph couldn't have had "magic-charged sai," so it really has to come to come down to wanting to "soften things" for audiences and parents.

For practicality purposes, though, it does make a bit more sense for a "Hulked Up Raphael" to have a blunt force weapon as opposed to something stabby. The idea would be to see him charging into battle, smacking everyone around... he can't really do that with sai.

I can understand that type of thinking. However magic can be very controversial. I think Harry Potter books got burned if I’m remembering correctly.

I like them. Especially after looking them over a few times. It seems with every version, The individual designs of each turtle begin to look more and more different from each other.

I will say, I'll probably like Leonardo's and Michelangelo's designs a little better when they will be shown in the live stream moving and in-perspective, but I'm still bugged by the way their eyes look as well as their grins.

I'm not the biggest fan of Splinter's design the more I look at it. Raph and Donnie's look similar to the ones from the recent live-action films. I do find it strange that the Sais are longer Raph's weapon. Also, Leo will only have one sword instead of two. The designs on Mikey's knees are to represent the fact that he will be artist. April's new look is a nice change.
