This film already had plenty of time for its script to be refined, but for something like the MCU where their strategy is essentially to push forward no matter what...I'm not upset to see their production slowed down. Hopefully it gives them time to perfect the script and possibly even extra time for the special effects if things work out.

No, they've had MORE than enough time to work on their script. It's time to see what they have.

I was talking about the MCU. But it's really not time to see what The Batman has.

And ... the movie's getting delayed.

They've only shot one-quarter of the entire flick.

It's going to be very interesting. Right now there won't be any movies released at all beyond movies that get dumped to streaming sites, and won't be probably until September into next year. Lots of big releases. But in the midst of all of this... nothing is being produced or filmed. So we'll get some releases... then a whole lot of nothing. Then we'll start seeing actually new movies in 2022.

I also think people will be movie starved so any movie released in that period will get a lot of money. Perhaps, or maybe people will be scared even months from now to go to an enclosed place.

Also maybe the earnings of digital releases will be big enough that studios won't care. We're definitely going to see a change from the way hollywood does things, which is a great thing IMO.

A lot of people are gonna lose their job, so I'm not sure they will be willing to spend money on movies.

This was always going to be a late 2021 movie anyway, and I'm sure WB knows they can't screw up the next big Batman reboot. Matt Reeves is a great director so this might turn out pretty good.

It's actually hard to believe we haven't had a solo Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012....that was 8 years ago now.

The same amount of time between Batman & Robin (1997) and Batman Begins (2005).

I smell a slew of re-releases coming next year... for the theatres which are still in business.

I'm shocked, but it makes a lot of sense when you see how Marvel is expanding the MCU with Disney+. Maybe theater/streaming integration will be the next trend.

I don't even want to try and consider which characters will be crossing over or relegated to either side of this universe. Not yet anyway.

Geez, you would've thought all these months of quarantine/production shut-downs would've been the perfect time for the executives to get their sh!t together and decide if they wanted to move forward with the DCU or not.

I guess their problem is that Wonder Woman still seems to be a viable franchise, while none of the rest are.

Aquaman too, but I hear ya.

They have a bit of a mess on their hands, but I'm pretty happy with them as of late and excited for a lot of these projects that do look to actually be happening now, as opposed to when the old guard was in place at WB.

I'm personally not worried about a shared universe coming together in perfect harmony, but I know that a lot of fans are hoping for that, so it will be interesting to see how they navigate.

When it comes to Justice League, I wouldn't mind at all seeing a "legacy" version of Batman take the place of Ben Affleck's Batman, such as Damian, one of the Robins, Terry, or Azrael. That's assuming Ben won't be returning, although I'd welcome him back. I think it would actually be interesting to throw an unpredictable element like that into the mix, with no one in the JL knowing exactly who this new Batman is or what his priorities may be. We'd have a Bruce Wayne Batman in Matt Reeve's universe, which helps avoid any confusion while giving us variety.
Now, being realistic, I don't expect that to happen. It would be tricky to pull off and I'm just daydreaming, more or less. The thing is, a re-cast sounds nearly as awkward. There are also the possibilities that they leave Batman out of the next Justice League film, or incorporate Robert Pattinson.

Attention: "The Batman" will resume shooting in September. However, the remainder of the scenes will be shot in studio.

Gotham was awesome, but definitely not the take I would've taken the show, hopefully this one takes it a very different direction.

It seems pretty clear DC is continuing with a multiverse, only way to salvage what worked of the DCEU while fixing what didn't.
