The thing about the tmnt is they need to be cool. As nebulous as that sounds and is, it's part of the appeal.
You surround the viewer with danger, and then they arrive to feel better like the coolest older brothers you never had.

Whenever they turn Michelangelo into the idiot, it's like a magnified version of the problem.

It's not that they have nothing to learn, it's just that there is an aura around them. You want to be around them. I think that's lost in most modern incarnations.

I thought they said Platinum Dunes and michael bay were making it again, but it was a reboot and not in continuity with the previous two movies.

• Michael Bay announces a movie in which the Turtles were going to be aliens and it was going to come out in 2012.
• This announcement received justified backlash and the project was given the new deadline of 2014 because an entirely new script had to be written.
• 2014 came and the movie produced by Bay's studio, Platinum Dunes, was released to mostly negative reviews and mediocre box office.
• In 2016, a direct sequel came out and actually got a really bad box office performance.
• In 2018, the plans for a third movie in this particular series officially got scrapped in favor of doing an unrelated live-action movie with the same producers.
• Production was meant to start in 2019.
• In 2020, this animated movie produced by Seth Rogen was announced.
• In 2021, it was announced the script for the live-action movie was getting rewritten, meaning the production was about two years off schedule.
• Now in 2022, concrete proof of the animated movie being in production has surfaced in the form of leaked concept art.
• Along with this, we also got an announcement of movies starring other TMNT characters for the sake of experimentation.
• The animated movie is still on schedule to be released in 2023.
• The Live-action movie still don't have a scheduled release date.

If/when we get another Live-Action movie, it will be in 2024 at the earliest. At which point, the script from 2018 will most likely have been phased out. There is also the possibility that the project may have been quietly canned, possibly because it was headed by the same people who made two bad TMNT movies that performed poorly to begin with. Why they were trusted to head another TMNT project despite botching their previous attempts so poorly is a bit of a mystery but there may have been some contractual obligations going on behind the scenes. Now will we get another live-action TMNT movie in the near future, let's say that's between 2024 and 2032 just to give it a generous definition of near future? Sure, that seems reasonable. However, if Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and even the script they were working with are mostly (if not entirely) out of the picture, then it isn't exactly "that" particular project, is it?

Meanwhile, we do however have at least one film project that is alive and well, not to mention several other projects in the works. So if that is the case, why should we even assume the live-action project is still active?

I read the script when the leaks about them being aliens happened (spoilers they were supposed to be revealed as humanoid turtles from a dif world, not at all mutated hence the original title Ninja Turtles for the movie).

Then a week later I met Kevin Eastman and point blankly asked him about it since he was on record being positive about the film and candidly said "Yeah it isn't the greatest script but I don't own TMNT anymore". They had already filmed things and then had to recut the film, or where they could reshoot, to add in an actual Shredder instead of a Col Shraeder, etc. Oof that original script was horrible... so so many bad choices made.

Fun to see some discussion about TMNT around here.

None of the news this week has gotten me super excited, but some of it does appeal to me, so I'm happy about it. Also, the last ronin has sort of been my thing lately, so all in all, I can't complain too much about tmnt despite the franchise having more potential than is being utilized.

To be fair to them most of The Blue Door script was thrown out of what would become the 2014 movie. There was only the turtles being captured by the Foot and dragged out of the sewers and escaping by sliding down a snowy mountain on their shells. That sequence of events was the first thing they ever decided about the movie, clearly they thought it was their big selling point and was going to be in the movie no matter what. Admittedly while there was some dumb stuff that sequence was genuinely well executed.

What gets me about that is it's not necessarily an un-TMNT thing to happen. Heck the turtles have slid down a snowy mountain on their shells in one previous iteration. You could have easily crafted a faithful movie around that sequence. You could make more of less remake the 1990 but instead of the extended character building in April's apartment and the farmhouse have the capture and mountain escape sequence instead. Not exactly what I want but it would have fine.

Yeah the mountain scene was genuinely fun but man. The movie surrounding it and the original movie surrounding it …. Woof.
