I'll probably be dead long before this project finally ships... lol. Do you do shipping to the afterlife? Lol [feeling the same about the Shredder book too...]

If there is a final product then that would no longer be a pre-order, would it?

I don't wanna read through this whole thread and I have some questions.

Is this (Forever War) actually happening?
Is it being written by Ryan Brown and Steve Murphy?
Is it going to be published and released by IDW?
How long might it be?
Is it supposed to be a final conclusion to the series?
Any idea when it might be finished and released?

Of course. Chris Allan only has 5 pages left to draw. The script was finished maybe 2 years ago.

No. Though the first issue and a half has recovered scripting from the original Forever War art pages recovered.

No.

It's 5 issues at 22-25 pages an issue.

Yes.

Not sure. Still a lot of inking and coloring to be done, it sounds like.

I expect Arseniy will comment here eventually, but he explained the situation on his Facebook yesterday.

Spoiler:

As insignificant as it sounds given the weight of real-world events, it seems Forever War has never had an easy journey trying to see completion.

Good thing he's pretty independent, so current situation doesn't really affect him.

It definitely effects people outside of Russia more than it does him. In terms of the people waiting for the hardcover when it's ready, which is what you were asking about, but also when it comes time for the mailings out. There is nothing right now stopping any level of the work or the production in regard to Ukraine -- that's all I was referring to. I apologize, I didn't mean to sound flippant in my earlier post.

Quick rundown.

Archie started as an adaptation of the cartoon but did its own thing with issue 5 and onwards. Eventually Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady were defeated which paved the way for new villains (with Shredder coming back now and then).

Eventually the comic ended and the last issues were flashbacks to how the turtles first got their weapons and whatnot as kids.

So the Forever War is supposed to be like more official conclusion to the series had it not been cancelled and I believe the final confrontation with the Shredder.

Were Eastman and Laird involved?

The reason why the archie comic ended, Because there were disputes with the publisher and writers over the direction of the comic dealing with mature things, and they didn't like that.

And I enjoyed all the mature stuff they had in the issues, Its just the publisher still saw TMNT as a kids IP and wanted them to stick to that.

Doing an occasional cover is all I recall. There were those gorgeous covers from them early on.

In a minimal way from my understanding. They did a few covers and the logo includes their names but I can't think of any writing or interior artist credit, though there is a tiny bit of art recycled from the Mirage books that was done by them. However, the main writer was Steve Murphy (under a pseudonym) and a few other Mirage artist did some interiors. While I don't know to what extent, it is possible Laird and Eastman had some influence on them.

If it's the thing about how most elements associated with the FW cartoon getting scrubbed that made you wonder, because Laird has made it no secret that he thinks the FW cartoon sucks, I don't think he influenced that. I think Murphy just didn't like those ideas because they got in the way of the stories he wanted to tell.

I confess, at first I kinda missed the cartoon characters and elements once they started being phased out... and much can (and has) been said about whether or not all the globe-hopping and eco-preaching stuff that replaced the cartoon elements were "better" or not, that's going to come down to personal preference.

But by the time Bebop and Rocksteady or Krang showed up again after not being featured for a while, I realized that I hadn't really missed them so much and in fact only ever did because I expected them to be there because of the cartoon.

Even if what the book became wasn't to everyone's taste - and there's a good bit that even I'm a bit "iffy" on; it's my favorite TMNT comic but I'll never claim it was perfect or that I liked every single bit of it - I think that doing a sharp pivot away from the cartoon as soon as they became established as their own thing was the best thing they ever possibly could have done.

I think a comic based in the FW universe but handled with more of a concurrent storyline is a great idea. The first eps of FW are great. It's a shame they never really went that rout.

Although i still enjoy the "Adventure of the week" stuff

Their return story was good though. It featured Slash, an action figure accurate wild and crazy violent Slash, not the buck toothed idiot from the cartoon, and we had the Turtles actually be proactive for a change and purposely seek out the Shredder to defeat him once and for all.
