"The Cult" would make for a great movie as long as they didn't mess with it. BUT, I can totally see it being "too dark" for mainstream audiences since the book already garners that reaction from most people.

I mean, I loved it but y'all know me and "twisted mindf*ck" sh*t.

It also tickles me whenever Batman gets psychologically broken because he's so typically "perfect and unbreakable" in modern comics to the point where he even has "backup failsafe personalities" (what? ) in case anyone ever screws with his head. Whenever people make comments about how "Batman is the best because he's the most 'realistic' super-hero" it just blows my f*cking mind. Aside from the fact he's a tortured soul and has no super-powers beyond "He's as rich as the story needs him to be", there is very little about Batman that's "realistic". May as well call Iron Man a "realistic" super-hero, since under the suit he's a normal guy; he's not, and neither is Batman. Batman just has a less-fancy suit.

Anyways, yeah, I'd love a movie based on "The Cult" but I doubt anyone would go for it. My two dream Batman movies are 1:1 adaptations of "Venom" and "The Last Arkham", the latter especially because not only do you get "tortured Batman" and a really twisted villain, but you also get Robin, Nightwing, and cameos from Literally The Entire Rogues Gallery.

I really can't think of a more "perfect" Batman movie to make than "The Last Arkham"... so long as they didn't screw with it. BUT, it's Hollywood, so they'd have to. But if they did it like "Watchmen", though, and made only the most minor of changes, then it would be absolutely amazing.

Since it's all wishful thinking anyway, for either movie it'd be Affleck in the role with Snyder directing. Imagine the BvS warehouse scene, and then imagine that scene from "The Last Arkham" where Batman fights off his entire rogues' gallery in a gigantic free-for-all. Then imagine the latter in live action through the same lens as the former. Jesus Christ, I'd jizz all over myself in the theater.

Of all the live-action Batmans we've had, I feel like the way the character is written in "The Last Arkham" is best-suited to the Affleck portrayal, as well. There's so many moments in that book where I could only see/hear him pulling them off, since he's borderline unhinged for most of it and we've already seen Affleck be a bit of a snarling rage monster before. Like the scene where he screams "I AM NOT INSANE!!!" and rips his own chain restraints from the wall, or at the end where he forces Jeremiah to look into Zsasz's eyes and snarls "You want to see madness? THAT is MADNESS!" I just can't see any Batman actor but Affleck really nailing that sort of stuff. Even Bale's version, while suitably "angry" enough for such a role was a bit too lean of frame to really put it over. Like I couldn't buy him ripping the chains from the wall and stuff like that; Affleck's version, I could, since he was so jacked-up and everything.

Not like any of it matters. But if I could wish any Batman movie into existence those are the two I'd want most, "Venom" and "The Last Arkham". But "The Cult" ain't a bad choice either.

Downside being, even if they did make them into movies, as great as those books are Hollywood would tinker with them until they were ruined because that's what they always do. So I don't even think about it much outside of conversations such as this one.

Somehow I’ve never read fully the Batman:Venom comic, but I’m going to get around to that soon, as well as Batman: City or Crime.
I know the gist but I’ve never read those two.

Venom sounds like it could be adapted in a realistic universe. In fact, I think Reeves already sort of set up some ground work for that. We’ve seen an element of that story already in his film.

Most annoying part of this film is the segment pretending it is “woke” because it has a couple black actors and one of them says the words “white privilege”. Btw, she also tries to murder someone. Does this movie advocate murder?

I mean, she says that line once and you had people saying “they say white privilege, like, four times in this movie!”, which is strictly either delusional or looking for a problem.

Let alone the hero of the film - the savior - the guy everyone wants to be, when they walk back out of the theater - is whiter than a mime. Don’t prop up a white guy as the coolest character in the movie and tell me, as a white person, you’re underrepresented or misrepresented in it. For what it’s worth, I am myself white, and I hate being preached to.

It’s sad that all the whining from the extreme left has leaked on to the other side. Everyone is a sensitive snowflake now. Whining about race in this Batman film is the same as whining about films with male-leads. Tired of it. Tired of every film being a lightning rod for snowflakes of every type.

Doesn't surprise me too much seeing as someone like Wokey Kravitz probably wouldn't have taken the role if she didn't get to throw **** like that in there. The same person that played a sexy character like Catwoman but didn't want people to look at her as a sexy character.

Such terms have no place in a Batman movie, and to top it off, if she was portrayed by a white woman, y'know, like the comics, Selina wouldn't be able to use 'white privilege' as a crutch for her own upbringing. But then again, given the current narrative, they probably would have hired some woke white woman to bitch about the 'patriarchy' and 'the wage gap' instead.

The black Catowman was fine. Only thing I didn't care for was the different color wigs as that felt too anime-ish for me when she started wearing pink hair, etc.

But her and Gordon being blacks is a non-issue I enjoyed their actors a lot. I do hope Riddler wears his traditional outfit if he returns in the sequel, this movie felt like a prototype for his costume given it was the same as his henchmen. Seeing him in a green suit next time might be interesting.

I haven't heard **** from the guy playing Gordon, it's Zoe Kravitz that's the problem. Honestly I wish the moment these people open their woke mouths, that's it, done. Get the **** out, let's recast.

If they wanna be woke, fine, but if they can't keep it to themselves and just have to virtue signal all over press conferences while promoting either the movie or the character they'r portraying, get out.

Exactly. It's not "pretending" it's woke $#!( when woke $#!( like that is there. It amazes me how we've normalized saying things like that where when any similar truths applied to any other race would be considered an "ism".

But that's Hollywoke for you. Simply making sure buzzwords are present so as to be part of the zeitgeist of the times.

Zoey Kravitz. Hollywood baby, rich-girl-gorgeous-poster-child of the musician-elite, privldged as anyone and in a lead in a "Batman" movie going on about racism in any capacity. About as dumb as Anthony Mackey going on about how America will never accept a black-Captain America in a globally distributed show literally about a "Black Captain America". These people and their sheep-supporters are so full of $#!( I can't even believe it.

Nah, the people complaining about Selina’s line are Selina - whiners, looking to be oppressed wherever possible. Hate to break it to them.

Zoe Kravitz herself may be another story.

I hate “woke” stuff to, for the most part, but when I see people coming out of the movie saying “wow they bring up white privilege, like, four times!”, I see delusion. Because they said it once. And that’s the kind of thing I’m seeing. Doesn’t lend a lot of credence. Looks more like paranoia.
To add to that, those same people are saying that the gang you see in the intro is made up of all white people, except for one black boy who is being forced into the situation, which simply isn't true either. There's clearly another, pre-initiated, black gang member shown. So it's a bunch of horse-crap, sorry.

Though most of the people with these complaints haven't even seen the movie, so there's that lol.

Still kinda sus. Why couldn't the one gang member 'forced into the situation' be white? Or just keep him black but actually eager to join and not regretful.

Idk, it reminds me of all these weird new Young Reader books that DC has been making propping up someone gay or poc and the one guy that's the racist, sexist, homophobic, whatever that starts **** always, always, ALWAYS has to be a white guy.

I swear, if they could get away with it and not get a bunch of backlash they woulda just made Batman black.

At this point you’re looking for a problem. “Why couldn’t he have been white?” Well, “why couldn’t he have been black?”
This is getting ridiculous.

That said, the comics division of DC is on some real weird crap. Especially since the new EiC came in. Yeah, they’re pushing their agenda hard. Doesn’t apply to everything though, and the people obsessed with finding a pattern everywhere are becoming exactly what they despise. It’s a kindergarten slap-fight.

You and I agree on something for once? The world's about to explode, I think.

I've seen people claim the movie is or has BLM propaganda (yes, in those words) so...yeah.

I can't attest to Kravitz's politics because I don't follow celebrities, nor do I care about their opinions or politics outside of the roles they act in. That said, I didn't mind her bringing up 'white privilege' mostly because I can see someone like her (Selina Kyle, not Kravitz, mind you) feeling that she's being trampled on by wealthy white men who skate by on their status like her father and his associates. I think it's also interesting she made that admission to a man who is also wealthy and white (though she knows he's white, obviously, not that he's the 'Gotham Prince'). I disagree with her stance, for the record, but I understood why she said it. I think I was also okay with it because it was a quick, and one-off line, and not the entire focus of the film.

I really liked Kravitz in the role of Selina, and Wright was especially great as Gordon. I didn't mind them playing those roles, just like I didn't mind that 'skinny dude' Colin Farrel played an overweight man in make-up and a fat suit.

I'm opinionated and rarely does a single soul on here seem to agree with my barbaric takes. You better believe I am popping champagne.

Same. I'm not paying attention to Zoe Kravitz. I'm talking about the movie.

I agree, regarding Selina's stance in the film.
It seems as if characters in a movie aren't allowed to have opinions anymore.
Anytime that character says something, someone is apparently going to interpret it as hand-wrapped propaganda meant to brainwash you.
Every line is a potential trigger.

Check this out! Adam West, Burton Ward, Frank Gorshin, and Stafford Repp in The Batman with Kravitz and Wright. Too bad Newmar and Hamilton were not incorporated.

So I just saw 5 minutes of this while I was making tea, as the in-laws were watching it.

It was the "Flying Squirrel" scene - I can't think of a better way to describe it. Frankly, I hated literally everything about it.

I thought the way they shot and framed it looked ridiculous, I thought his puffy parachute suit looked silly, I hated that goofy grin on his face while he was zipping around, and the whole bit where he whips out a parachute, gets it caught on a bridge or whatever and crash-lands, then just sort of awkwardly gets up, dusts himself off and meanders away... Jesus Christ. It felt exactly like something out of a Robot Chicken skit and I'm quite sure it wasn't intended to be taken that way.

I was in the next room So I couldn't really hear so well, but they also kept having to rewind it and turn the volume up every time anyone was talking, and they were sitting six feet from the TV. "Why is everyone mumbling?"

I don't know man. The more I see, the more I go from "I'll maybe see it one day" to "I'm not sure I ever need to watch this at all."

I'm sure I'll be accused of being biased or whatever, I just sincerely can't stand anything I've seen at all. And I doubt seeing the entire thing will change that. I swear on my father's ashes this has nothing to do with liking other directors' Batman movies better. It's just that sincerely, removed from everything else, I really just can't stand anything I've seen from this.

Just not for me. There was a time I honestly figured I'd make time to see it eventually just for the hell of it. But now I don't think I should. Good for people who like it. Between the trailers, the deleted Joker scene, and the Flying Squirrel bit, I think I've seen enough.

Glad to hear it isn't just me. But yeah, I hated how it was shot... Everything.

I don't doubt there's better bits in there and I guess it's unfortunate that That's the scene I walked in on.

Needed more tea. They're still watching it. When they paused it I asked what they thought, and I was surprised when they said they weren't really sure. They are by far the least-discriminating people I've ever met with regard to movies - good ones, awful ones, they pretty much like Everything - and they really like Batman movies. So to hear them say they weren't sure how they felt about it kinda threw me.

They absolutely hate the sound mixing, though. I think he was annoyed to the point of needing to take a break. He couldn't stand how the music kept overtaking the dialog to the point it was hard to hear anyone speaking. That's the only thing they explicitly said they hated.

I found something to like, though! Some of the lighting in certain shots is rather atmospheric and creative. Like there's the part where Batman is talking to Falcone - taking him into custody, I guess? Again, I was just passing through so I have no idea - but the one shot with the red lighting was pretty neat-looking.

The sound design is excellent. I wonder if it’s their setup. Or if they’re just listening on television speakers, which can’t be trusted to translate anything well.

Lighting is definitely a strength. The visuals are immaculate in this film. Other then that flying squirrel scene, really.

Definitely a sound mix will get wildly different (read: bad) results on a subpar system.

About sound in general in the movie, I go back to my review and bemoan the drowning out of the movie's score. It was so powerful in the trailers. I even downloaded it and listened to it here and there before the movie came out. Yet it is inexplicably lost (largely) in the movie itself. A shame.
