Just saw that. Pretty gross. But also funny because I don’t think there’s any way that conversation was real.

People want to boycott Domino's since they just fired a guy over saying positive things about Kirk. I think this is the first firing we had over being Pro-Kirk instead of Pro-Kirk Death.

There's been a couple of high-profile ones. But they got rehired.

Jimmy said the killer was apart of the maga movement.

Canceling people just for saying something is basically the same thing some of you are rooting against. No matter what side or who it is about.

It's not the same as cancel culture. Your boss should not be forced to keep paying you if you're publicly celebrating innocent deaths. I'm sure Kimmel will have no problem finding a new like-minded boss.

Which is demonstrably false, and a weird thing to say at this point.

Would people be okay with if someone got fired for celebrating George Floyd's death instead of Charlie Kirk?

Just a thought experiment.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Watched part of this. Huh. I guess the earlier stories about, "He lawyered up right away and isn't talking!" isn't true, if the court is now offering a public defender (which means he doesn't have one and also means his family isn't offering up any defense for him). Apparently he was talking about killing himself before his dad talked him into turning himself over to the authorities who are... eh... seeking the death penalty anyway? He's going to be pretty numb at this point.

Probably not in the overall court of public opinion. But he WAS a repeated criminal. Armed robbery and a prolific drug abuser. Who died with what was considered a lethal dose of fentanyl in his system who was acting like a crazy person in a parking lot. Not exactly an "innocent" by any logical barometer. But celebrating? No, not OK. But hardly deserving of the same scorn. Bad taste, for sure. By the same token if someone "celebrated" the death of some random junkie overdosing in an alley on a Tuesday night. That's not really a thing. Nobody really does that.

Just so I'm clear:

A US TV host says we should kill every homeless person? “No big deal.”

[just to note following said comments, there were two shootings in Minneapolis that night at homeless shelters]

Another TV host says the right must "go to war" with the left and wipe them out? “Pfft. Nothing to see here.”

Yet another TV host says the US government is cracking down on critics? Well, the US government cracks down on him for the criticism by getting him fired.

Free speech, everyone. ?

What specifically got commented?

Kimmel said Monday: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Maga gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel said Tuesday: “Many in Maga-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.” He accused the US vice-president, JD Vance, of blaming the left for Kirk’s death without evidence.

“While our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left,” Vance said while hosting an episode of Kirk’s podcast from the White House.

“And by ‘statistical fact’, he means ‘complete ********’,” Kimmel said to applause, citing a study that found far-right groups were the greatest source of domestic terrorism and extremist violence in the US. The Department of Justice has removed the study from its website.

(my emphasis bold here because they have)

“Here’s a question JD Vance might be able to answer: who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6?” he said.

It's a weird example since George Floyd was pretty much a nobody until the left decided to martyr him as their golden boy.

I'm kinda late to the party since I don't have enough information to really give a valid opinion (but god damn is his name everywhere now), but Charlie Kirk has been around for a while pissing people off with his controversial hot takes. He already had a whole lot of folks wishing ill on him. I remember being annoyed when he said he 'didn't feel safe' if he was on the plane with a black pilot, I just haven't put the name to face til recently. A 'oh, it was THAT guy' moment.

Edit- I also agree with the people saying that it's weird how people are getting fired over what would be considered 'left' views since the world usually seems tilted left these days. I'd assume they'd get a raise. Like, the same employers that are firing people over celebrating his death would probably not have fired Gina Carano for her statements.

Let me guess, you saw some cherry picked quote completely out of context on that? What Kirk actually said there was super pro-black. What he was saying was in light of particular airlines loudly broadcasting their new DEI standards at the time that were pushing black people in particular into pilot roles over, say, white people who were in most cases much more qualified in order to meet self-imposed quotas of races. And his point was that this was unfair to black people, which it absolutely is. He WANTED to be able to look at a black pilot and feel safe, but you can't do that with these DEI practices in place. To paraphrase, if there was NO DEI program in place, if he'd seen a black pilot then he WOULD feel safe because he would know they were there because of merit, but the DEI stuff makes that impossible but it forces you to wonder if they're unqualified and there just because of the color of their skin.

An anti-racist sentiment, if anything.

I mean, let's be honest. Racism and discrimination exists. There probably wouldn't be any black pilots (or other chosen professions depending on the field) if it weren't for DEI regardless of merit. It helps assure a qualified black person doesn't just get passed over for a less qualified white person because white.

I mean c'mon. You live in the real world. You know if they had their way and DEI didn't force their hand there would be racist bigots that would refuse to hire any non-white person in their company.

A commercial airline pilot used to be our neighbour (he moved about 18 months ago) so I was able to understand some of the nuances of his job. And yes, he was often away for days at a time going to and from various destinations in Europe and the Middle East.

The Kirk quote regardless is incredibly racist. To be able to even fly the planes in question in the first place, you need to have accrued a lot of flying hours, passed multiple exams and assessments, gone through a mental and psychiatric evaluation, and more. A black person would NOT get to a serious airline pilot FAA approved et al without going through the same routines as anyone else. To think a "DEI hire black pilot" is less qualified than a white one is utterly ludicrous. But there's the bias rub, thinking black people are automatically less intelligent, skilled or capable.

As Coola notes, the point of DEI to make sure highly qualified minorities were not excluded in favour of less qualified whites.

This is a myth, in any large quantity.

Based on what, your "feeling"?

Probably in some small number of companies, somewhere. But if you're a black guy -- or anybody -- with a super impressive resume and in an in-demand field, you're going to get the job 9 times out of 10.

Wrong. There is nothing he said that implies that one race is superior to another race. If anything, DEI itself implies that other races are INFERIOR to one race, or at the very least less capable.

There is nothing in DEI about "highly qualified minorities." There are scores of examples of how DEI ushered in only moderately qualified minorities into roles for which HIGHLY qualified white people were passed over as a result. To meet their DEI quota. Which is pretty horrifying for roles like pilots of commercial airplanes -- you want the best qualified people for that, PERIOD.

Are you seriously calling racism and bigotry a myth?

Why isn't Trump hiring you? You're obviously his number one guy. Might even get a free 'Hispanics for Trump' shirt by mail.

Maybe in your fantasy land where everyone is sugar and spice and everything nice.

Anyone flying a commercial airliner IS part of the best qualified people regardless of skin colour or sex.
