I personally consider the 2007 film its own continuity. It has far too little in common with the original trilogy and far too much in common with the 2003 animated series to be a continuation of the 90’s films.

I think that's rather obvious. I dunno how people can see it as a sequel to the 90s movies. I haven't watched it since... 2009 maybe? So correct me if I'm wrong but it's not like I'm going to rewatch that dull movie all over again just to double check that. |

Would have been better if people just kept the more positive stuff that 2000s tmnt had. Like, regarding genuine representation and badassery that secondary characters had, and some depth of story arcs.

Keep in mind this was 2 years after Batman Begins. “Superhero origin movies” were all the rage. I think Monroe wanted to put out a new version without have to waste time on the origin stuff. So he kinda piggy backed off the trilogy as a way around that without actually doing any real connecting. I think making a real TMNT IV would have been the smarter move, even in CGI. |

I just remember being so angry and bitter that Kevin Monroe insisted the movie was a direct sequel to the original trilogy and being completely disappointed that it was such a blatant lie.
I got over it eventually. |

There's a time for everything and it was the wrong time for that movie. It would have worked better as a sequel to a movie that came out a couple of years or so before or something. |

Well the 2007 movie was just supposed to be the start of a new trilogy. We already know Shredder was going to come back if it got a sequel.

true but you start with your first foot forward or else you risk not getting to make the other 2 movies.

This is copied and pasted straight from an automated transcript, so it’s a little sh*tty, but here’s what Munroe said on the Turtle Tracks podcast:
“Yeah, yeah, that's a good question because my picture in the beginning was that it was. It's like this is Turtles 4 and it was like, well, how do you reconcile the fact that they time travel them? And the second you put in time travel, like in 3, you can pretty much explain anything. But we had a mythology all laid out for like, this is what they've been up to and this is where they are. And it was one of those things where Peter specific, Peter had a lot of control in that film. He had a lot of creative approvals, like everything sort of go through him. And at the time he was very much into, because he had just finished the Four Kids series, that he just didn't want to go back and tell another origin story. So the whole thing is like, how do you, but the company wanted a reboot. The company wanted the studio just to let everybody, like hey, this is the new version of the turtles, let's watch. And then he really wanted to continue the story, as opposed to retreading it. So the thing is, how do you make “it feel like it's a reset reboot, but at the same time acknowledge what's going on there? So the end ended up being, it was much cleaner in the original cut of it, because we started the movie right away with where all the guys were. It wasn't all about like all the backstory mythology, because that was something that happened like at minute 45 or 50, like in the director's cut of that movie. So it was much more about like, hey, since you've last seen the guys, this is what they're up to. And it was sort of presented in a much different way that sort of, I think, bridged the gap a little bit better. And right now it comes off more as like, it comes off more as Easter eggs, I think, more than it was intended to. And I think specifically because they were just probably just trying to avoid the issue because there was a little bit of an impasse between Peter wanting to move forward and the people who had to sell it wanting to say like, hey, we've got a brand, this is something, right? So it sort of fell a little “bit into like that gray area, but at the same time, I do like that. And I do think that there's a world where like, they did everything that they did in, you know, one through three. And the point being that we're going to reset in CG with this now and then continue on and get to like, the city of war for number five on, you know, and sort of do our little twist on that kind of story. But never happened. OK, so it was like it was intended to be, but like the company wanted it one way and Peter another. So it was like a soft reboot where it could be, but it doesn't have to be. Yeah, exactly.” From TurtleTracksPodcast: 007 — Kevin Munroe: director of TMNT 2007, Oct 13, 2018 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...21720839&r=943 This material may be protected by copyright. |

It was weird. I mean yeah the 90's movie followed the Mirage plot but the turtles were still goofy silly cowabunga dudes. Nostalgia aside, when you really look at it, the first movie felt like 'what if the FW Turtles had to deal with serious issues, like almost losing Raph or the possibility that their father was dead'.
The 2007 Turtles felt like completely different characters. Like not characters I can see the 90's movies Turtles growing into. Just like I can't see Judith/Paige's April turning into a daring archeologist. I don't see Splinter sending 90's Leo on a solo world tour. And not too many years can pass cause they're still supposed to be teens.

I was heavily invested in the 2007 pre-release information dump, Munroe even posted on the drome about it. He was constantly asked about the movie being in continuity with the original trilogy and we ALL wanted him to say "yes" but he never did and he would always change what he had said previously".
He would go on to say "the first movie works as their origin" then he said "the first movie happened and similar events from 2" but very ambiguious and never said anything about 3. He would always emphasize how this was its own take, it's clear it would've taken a very different approach had we gotten sequels. Hell the spin-off material (comics, games, books) all showed us a world incompatible with the original trilogy and if anything closer to mirage/2k3. Of course the movie came out and there's an easter egg of the time scepter and every idiot who didn't autistically follow every single interview the director did just said "Oh it's in continuity" made their ****** ass youtube videos about it and now people act like it's a fact. Talking about the sequel, he also told many times if we were to get a sequel it needed to get to 100 million which it didn't. The poster that people post on fcking r/TMNT every couple of months saying it's from the planned "sequel" is FAKE NEWS. It was nothing official nor was it from any real plans on what a sequel movie would be, it was just something Imagi did and sent to Peter Laird or Munroe can't remember who as a 'gift', but had nothing to do with anything that was planned. The only information we have is that the studios wanted a more comedic oriented sequel but that was very early in its planning stages before it all got scrapped. The amount of misinformation on the 2007 movie is outstanding. it even gets repeated in this forum where it's pretty much catalogued the entire process as it happened. I know because I discussed it here. |

But yeah, even taking that Easter egg scene as gospel, them owning an intact Shredder helmet is a contradiction. It would either be crushed from part 1 or the serrated/mutated Super Shredder version from SotO. And the Time Scepter? There’s one of those in literally every version lol |

I was a teenager when the 2007 movie came out. I was no longer keeping up with the 2k3 series by then, and the movie didn't overtly excite me. It also did not have a lot of promotion from what I recall. it was talked about for about a week and everyone forgot about it afterwards. Plus, the public opinion regarding the TMNT at the time still was that it was a dead property from the 80s/early 90s. A ton of people were completely unaware of the 2k3 series at the time and many to this day still are, in fact. So the movie for most people felt like something that popped up out of the blue.
"Ninja Turtles? Isn't their time long gone? Last time I heard of them was 15 years ago!" Basically... |

Yeah I’m about your age, and I remember it the same way. My friends only knew about it because of me.
I also remember Fantastic Four 2 coming out around the same time and being frustrated by how much more marketing that got, comparatively. Obviously they didn’t have the marketing budget for all that, but what was the point of hiring the “name” voice actors but not having them do any press for it? |

That's my boyfriend, he posts there. He is omitting the parts I called him a dumbass, he kept telling me they wouldn't call April O'N***** when they got mad at her because their biology would not let them utter the final parts of the word.
Edit:if you need to know I, he's bottom |
